That makes him Useful. As Stalin put it. Me, I'm not a big fan of organized religion. In almost all cases in history it rapidly becomes a tool for evil men to gain wealth and power. For a recent example, look at scientology. The founder created this religion as a bar bet with other science fiction writers, died under mysterious circumstances and his Church became a serious money making business. ( Robert Heinlein's response was the novel "Stranger In A Strange Land" a classic of sociological SF that pushed the limits of discussion of sex and religion ) For a slightly older example look at Marxism, the most murderous religion in history, a jealous anti-god that can tolerate no other faith, and the cause of more suffering that the Crusades, WW2, and Cancer combined. What faith YOU have in power beyond yourself has little to do with organized religion. You may get your faith from study of the literature of those religions, from oral discussion with people you trust, or simply by noticing that some anti-religious folk are miserable wretches who only get pleasure from hurting others. No matter how you arrive at your Faith, or who or what you worship or respect, from plants to invisible beings with multidimensional reach, enjoy it if it enriches your life and harms no other. Please feel free to explore and contrast the results of your faith to other's. You might find that the Elroners have something to teach you about guilt, or Shinto about valor. ( I personally believe giving someone cash to hook me up to a magic box to clear my chakras is nuts, ( scientology ) but if you want to be a tool, enjoy. ) | ||

I'd like to clarify my position. While I am Episcopalian by birth and baptism, I tithe to the Nigerian church. I parted ways with a large portion of the Anglican Communion in 2003. In 2009, my decision to do so was justified again. | ||
