Due to a planning hiccup in the transport office, I & my Cuban codriver Ivan are going to find ourselves at a loose end around the Riverside-Ontario area from Saturday lunchtime til Monday morning. Any ideas for cheap amusement around there? |

Drive out to the Santa Monica or Malibu beaches. Visit Disney, California adventure park, or Knotts Berry Farm (amusment park) in Anaheim (~45 minutes). My wife and I just got back from our honeymoon to that area a few days ago. We drove up to Ontario from Anaheim to watch her cousin play little league ball. It was quite a bit hotter in the ontario area than near the coast. |

If you like old airplanes go check out the Planes of Fame Air Museum at chino airport. About 30 minutes from Ontairo. If you're willing to drive a little farther you can check out and tour the USS Iowa battleship out by LA. |

Go Karts! more Go Karts! Or just head for the beach, it's typically pretty hot and miserable out in that area, so just point the truck towards the water. |

You could always sit in the motel room and watch old reruns of Gilligan's Island... |

Company are only paying one night of hotel and satellite tracked so the beach is a nono too. Redsox are playing the Angels so I might go to the ballpark though. |

Now THAT's a plan! Sox are hurting, though... Would love to see Mike Trout in action. |

If it were down to me I would, but until I have my permanent residency I'm tied to the company for my work visa, so I have to be a good boy. Anyway, we're in the TA truckstop at Ontario now, booked in the hotel next door which has a small outdoor pool & spa, & free wifi so I'm now on the laptop instead of the phone. Afternoon game at Anaheim tomorrow so I'll see if I can get down for that, transport's the problem here, it's an evening game today & with the 3hr time difference I'll probably fall asleep before the 7th inning stretch. |

You don't know the 1/16th of it, Innes. SoCal is a rider's Paradise complete with a drought for EVERY day riding, incredible twisties, and legal lane splitting. Now that you know what you're missing, you have incentive to come back in style. |

Finally home after a loooong trip. Finally ended up watching the game sunday afternoon in air-conitioned luxury at a sports bar. Which wasn't bad actuallyas the game was a bit flat after the 19 inning marathon the day before. Any trip out would have entailed car rental & nobody else was interested to split the costs. I'll have to program a proper vacation down there sometime. Thanks for your suggestions & support, & if your phone rings unexpectedly with a number you don't know, it may just be me, Cheers. |
