For the past few years me and a coworker take a week long trip some place that we have not been. So we are in the planning stages for next year now and are thinking of the final "trip" destination to be in Maine in time for fresh lobster. We are both tossing around the idea of niagara falls as a stop along the way. I forgot to mention we are leaving out of Atlanta and more than likely taking the blue ridge parkway at some part of this journey. Seems like I have read somewhere of another scenic byway that starts in the virginia area and goes north into up state New York. Am I remembering correctly or am I making it up? Anyway. Our trips are usually travel light, camp cheap, and ride a lot. So if anyone has some pointers of good by ways that travel in the direction that we are looking to go, please enlighten me. Just as a recap on last years trip, it started in Atlanta first night in Tampa (camping in a friends back yard). Second day to key west (camped at a kao at mile marker 20, great place with a bar in the campground) stayed 2 nights there. 4th night at cocoa beach. Camped at Daytona international speedway Friday and Saturday the last two days of bike week then back home Sunday. That was a good trip and an adventure. What I'm looking for is a minimal of interstate this time, campgrounds along the way, or people willing to let us (maybe more riders this year) pitch a tent on their property along the way. Also what time of the year is a good time to do a northeastern ride? And can I get lobster at that time? Again the loop (potentially) Atlanta, niagara falls, the best place in Maine to get lobster, back to Atlanta |
