One week to go ’til the fourth and by all indications biggest "Buells in the Alps” yet, with about 25 people signed up. Here’s a rough schedule for the weekend: FRIDAY: -People usually start showing up around noon. -Check in at Skyline and ride twisties. -Meet for supper at Skyline around 6 PM. SATURDAY: -Kickstands up around 9 AM, start riding twisties! -If you have any excess Buell parts or gear you want to get rid of, bring ‘em up. Informal swap meet. -Check out the latest EBR motorcycles at the hotel (see below) -Meet for lunch around 11:30 AM at the Swiss Cafe and General Store in Little Switzerland, ~3 miles west of hotel on NC226A. Get there early because the place fills up with tourists on Saturdays. -Ride more twisties. -Meet for supper around 6 PM at Skyline; location to be determined. SUNDAY: -Kickstands up around 9 AM. -Check out the latest EBR motorcycles at the hotel (see below). -Ride as long as you can, depart when you have to. I got this big news yesterday: "Just wanted to let you know that I talked with Mike Thrift [owner of Skyline Village Inn] yesterday and he was very accommodating by letting us come up and set up a display on the 26th and 27th. I will be bringing up a new 1190RX and a new 1190SX. We are excited about showing these new bikes off to your group of Buell riders. There will be special pricing and special financing terms for anyone that visits the display over the weekend! Help me spread the word! Thanks for all your help! Randy Real Performance Motorsports (EBR Dealer) Greenville, SC" (Thanks to Badwebber Gemini (John Hayes) for helping facilitate RPM's appearance at the meet.) The weather forecast is looking good for next weekend, with highs in the 70’s and lows around 60 (better bring your jacket liner), and (hopefully) a low chance of rain! My wife and I are headed up Sunday July 20th and staying the whole week. I’ll post updates to Badweb. See you in one week…. WOO-HOO!!! Looking forward to this trip BIGTIME!!! At this writing, I'm pretty sure Slowride will be splitting the room with me- I'm in standby mode waiting for his reply. If for some reason he can't make it, I'll post up a notice for the remaining bed... |

"Pegs up"? "Pegs down"? I think you were looking for "stands up". If your pegs are up you are not riding, and if they are down someone died, and if the stand is up you gotta be riding! Old age.....it's not just an adventure! |

5 days to go; I'm headed up today for a week of vacation ahead of the meet. What Wunderground is saying about the weather this morning:
Like I always say, nothing makes you appreciate how useless weather forecasts are like trying to plan a motorcycle trip. I'm sure next weekend's forecast will change at least 5 times between now and then. |

The way I'm lookin' at it is this: (1)- I'm on a very new-to-me bike, with a stupendous motor I'm certainly not used to, freshly painted. I'll not be quite the fast guy I once was, not by a longshot. (2)- The bike will also have fresh Battlax sport-tour rubber, so that'll be optimal for any wet weather. Other than waterproofing my boots, my rainsuit is in fine shape. Once I get going in the wet, I eventually grow to appreciate the experience- I'll be taking things slow and just cruising. I know the topography changes drastically from where I'm at to where I'm going, but Maryville/Knoxville TN's forecast for that weekend looks pretty dang sweet! Let"s hope that carries over to Little Switzerland! Also- Once again, if anyone would like to split the room I have reserved, holler at me ASAP- I'd sure rather split the $$$ and not waste a perfectly good queen bed for 2 nights, and I'm sure someone out there who might've been planning on camping would like things a little more comfy... |

We're here! The place is looking good. Randy from RPM (EBR dealer) had been up scoping the place out right before we arrived. They will be setting up a tent across the street from the hotel on the overlook next Saturday. BTW- if anyone doesn't have a road-worthy bike, don't let that stop you from coming. Mike now rents bikes. He currently has 3 dual-sports in his fleet. Time for a ride! |

I went out for a spin today and discovered that Rider's Hill is now an EBR dealer. They are running a "deal", if you can call it that, for $18,390 out the door. They also had a white SX in the front of the store, but by the time I saw it I was suited up walking out the door... didn't want to fish out my phone again. Salesman said it was his factory rep's bike, not for sale. |

I did the NC 226/226A loop this afternoon. 226 is good as usual. 226A has fresh pavement. I encountered a crew setting reflectors in the center of the road about half way up; other than, next to no traffic. There is a little gravel in many of the curves but it's not bad. The fresh pavement is WAY better than last year's tar snakes. There was one spot where a substantial amount of dirt had washed into the road from a driveway but you can spot it well ahead of time and it's not in a curve. Mike (Skyline Village Inn owner/operator) said he'll probably host a cookout for us on Saturday night, so let's plan on eating here Saturday night. Quite a few Harley guys here tonight, and a big bunch of regulars are expected this Thursday. Oh yea, the T-shirts and name tag are here and they look really great. We're ready to roll! Can't wait 'til Friday. |

If anyone has the time, we are planning to hang around Robbinsville, NC for a few days after this gathering. Feel free to give a hollar if you might do the same. Bikes are ready to go. Going over the XB12 I noticed that the front tire was looking pretty abused, long before the rear. Kind of unusual, they were put on as a set. It probably would have been OK, but something about having a front tire 95% worn while touring in the mountains and likely hood of riding in rain somewhere along the way just didn't sit well with me. I've been on trips in the middle of nowhere when someone suddenly says "where can I get a tire around here". It's worked out OK so far, but it's always a scramble. |

We'll discuss that possibility! I'll have Sunday and Monday off work- chances are that I'll want to get back home Sunday, decompress, and get back to normal, BUT- depending on what my honey says or has to work, I may do some "extra credit"! Sifo, of course you'll do the entire Cherohala run- be sure to check out Tellico Grains café/bakery, and to take home some "Mountain Springs" soaps, handmade in Tellico Plains TN... they're sold at the Exxon and at the welcome center down the street. Yes, I'm a dude talking about fancy soaps... they're THAT good, you and your honey will appreciate having some!

4 days to go!!! I did about 40 miles of riding this morning before rain worked its way into the area. From what I can tell, the PR3's DO stick as advertised in the wet. BITA 4 SWAG is ready for distribution:
While I've been typing this, fog has rolled in. You can hardly see across the street from Skyline. Looks like good nappin' weather to me... |
