Yesterday afternoon, I went to work. Now, my hours had been cut for the past couple of weeks while one of the testing machines was supposedly being diagnosed and repaired. So I was scheduled to work Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sunday. My alternate Number was working Mon, Tues and Wed. Oh; we were the second shift testers. When I got to work, I couldn't find either Colin or Allan, the Day shift guys. I couldn't find my boss, either. Finally, while looking in his office, one of the other office people informed me that all three of the other testers were let go on Monday. My boss arrived and I asked him if I still had a job, and he said, "No". So I'm on the loaf again. I did tell him that it would have been nice if he'd called me at home and that way I could have saved some gas and not wasted my time. Anyway, I need to cheer myself up. I didn't get to the Dinosaur in Stamford, last month, and I still haven't eaten at a Dinosaur since last year, so I think I'll go for a ride this Sunday. Lunch at the Dinosaur in Troy, NY. Anybody care to join me there? I plan to get there around Noon or maybe 1:00. | ||

Crusty, It must be in the air. Last February I moved from Michigan to Phoenix to take a job at a small college here in the valley. This school has been having financial trouble and is now it the process of being acquired by Arizona State University. I found out on Friday that my serviced will not be needed after the middle of December. This is a whole sale layoff catching a large percentage of the staff and faculty. So unless I can find a good gig between now and December, I'll be on the loaf too. (Message edited by Zane on July 19, 2014) | ||

That's true. I was in MI before I had the chance to come out to AZ again. I grew up in Florida and while the cold was barible, the snow and ice just defeated me. No one ever complained about shoveling 6 inches of sunshine off the driveway. | ||

I've got work through the middle of December so I'm sure I'll find a good gig before then. I gave up worrying a couple of years ago. Not sure if I'm an optimist or just too dang lazy to worry. I may use this as an excuse to go back into I.T. management. Talked to my recruiter today and told her I'd relocate most anyplace as long as it was south of Interstate 40. I'm not doing that whole snow thing again. | ||

Thanks guys. It was a short term contract to begin with, but I didn't expect to get the ax quite so quick. When we started, we were told that it was a two month contract, and it lasted just over one month. I'm no stranger to Lay offs, I worked as a Sandhog for almost 20 years. I just don't take kindly to being blatantly lied to. Something will come up pretty soon. | ||

I was laid off from my full time job AND my part time job within an hour of each other (full time boss was calling me as I was getting laid off from the part time job...) Things tend to have a way of working themselves out. Have faith. Good luck on both accounts and we'll see you in God's Country, three weeks from now. | ||
