I have not ridden much in a while now, something I am trying to remedy. Today I had to do a road trip to gather parts, see a couple customers and such, so I took the Uly. Nice little 110 mile jaunt through the mountains. My Uly is now eight years old, I bought it in June of '06. It is only as clean as my bird infested shed will let it be, although I wash the bird crap off every time out, it is no where near as clean as many of you lower miles, Armor All using, clean fanatics keep yours. Yet, everywhere I stop I get at least two complements, and frequently end up in discussions about Buell Motorcycles and EBR, mostly with guys who wanted a Uly, or had one, or was scared of one, or who's best friend's brother has one. It is comical as hell  . No other bike that I have had, has had this kind of following or 'wanna be' following. One of my riding buddies had a Boss Hoss. It always attracted attention from folks, but never more than my Uly or my former City-X. I still love this bike, but this is not even why I do.  The thing these folks do is make me feel like my eight year old Uly is still brand new. Oh yeah.....Thanks Erik Buell and the Elves.....and former Elves!!!! | ||

I still get "is that a bmw?" After which I tell them it's a Buell and they say "is a Buell a ducati?" STILL!! | ||

Before my XB12Ss transmission died this happened all the time. It's nice to see people get excited about your bike isn't it? I need to fix that thing. I miss riding my Buell. | ||

I used to constantly get "is that the new Ducati?" when sitting at a stop light. The other one I'd occasionally get is "is that a 600?" My response would be "yes, the front cylinder is a 600, and so is the rear." | ||

Doesn't happen very often for me anymore; few times a year if that... Usually my Ulysses is the only Buell in the parking lot, too. I've come to the conclusion that Ulysses is not shiny enough to attract oglers, nor dirty or edgy enough to attract the rat rod crowd. | ||

Nothing drew as much attention as my 2011 Bonneville did. Hell when riding home from the dealership the day I bought it I got a "sweet bike!" yell out a car window with a thumbs up. Later that summer I did my once a year fund raiser poker run. Well over 300 bikes, 95% or more Harleys. It was rather amusing looking over at a sea of street glides, electra glides, etc, and see the crowd gathered around the little Bonneville that cost less than half of what the big HD's do. | ||

Sometimes I feel like I have to sneek in and out of a gas station to avoid the conversations that can take up to fifteen minutes. A lot of the interested folks around East Tennessee are on vacation during the summertime. Their time is not a big deal....but on some of these occasions I am working where I have customers to get with or employees standing around until I get back! | ||

Wednesday I was out on the 1125r. While I was fueling, lost the right lens in my eyewear. Stopped by an eyeglass place on the way home. The young lady that helped me said "nice bike". Went home and had one of these...  | ||

...unless he modified it, all 1125s are two-seaters. The back seat lives under a cowl, just like the Firebolt. It's actually a Firebolt tail section, just with different framework underneath. | ||

On the trip to Homecoming where my S2 turned 100,000 miles I stopped at a rest area in either Virginia or West Virginia. After coming out of the restroom and walking over to my S2, I was complimented on the bike and asked if it was brand new. I replied that it wasn't, and in fact was 10 years old and would be turning 100,000 miles on my trip. Next time you see a Duc, try this one on them: Is that one of them Italian Buell's/EBR's? I should try that at Duc Island at Laguna Seca tomorrow... 1313 | ||

Not anymore...at least since I put big chrome Buell lettering across the flanks of the tank. Guys that own or have owned Buells sometimes comment, usually to ask which year and model. Most say something to the effect that the Buell was their funnest bike and they wish they still had it. I respond with something like, "that's why I still have mine." I've had people in cars blatantly break traffic laws just to come up and tell me that it sounds good. Oh, and the most common thing I hear is, "YOUR CHAIN IS REAL LOOSE!"
