I am checking an 08 Uly with the proper test kit. There is no timing window I am aware of so just bring the piston all the way up and apply brake in gear. Any tricks or tips for doing this? |

I raise the bike lift points on the muffler until the rear wheel is off the ground. Then shift to 5th gear; rotate the rear wheel by hand. There is no Allan head plug at the bottom of the cylinder vee on the cam side of the engine on an '08? |

No timing plug, just a spot in the casting where it would go. |

Get it on the comp stroke on the relevant cyl with the plugs out. Put a pencil or similar down the plug hole and rotate the engine until the piston is at TDC. Then do your leak down. Rocket in England |

Went the rod in the hole route. Valves seem tight but a lot of air coming through the PCVs. Had to do it cold as after the dealers "Buell expert" fiddled with it she went from running a little off to running like sh&t. Going to go over the throttle body next. Its not just a bike, its an adventure |

You can't rely on air escaping as a definitive test. You need to put a pressure gauge in the equation and read the results. If you're not familiar with what you're doing, until you have a base reading at TDC you've no idea if you're on the right stroke at TDC or you have a severely worn or damaged engine. Given your engine runs, you need to be leak testing both cylinders for comparative results against each other, and to the reading on the pressure gauge and the engines required tolerance parameters.
