I have some Buell spares laying around and really like the idea of putting them to use and having a second street legal bike thats different from my 1125R. Im looking for ideas, opinions, suggestions. I am not interested in a mutant chopper or redneck engineering style frame, nothing crazy like that. But more like a standard sporty frame. Either build a little bobber, flat tracker, or cafe bike. Because I have a drag tuber, I would limit myself on getting too close to a drag style bike. But with a buell motor not being used (and tranny), forks, and set of wheels, a running bike wouldnt be far away once I had a frame. Have you done something like this? What'd you do about the frame? Get a sportster frame or aftermarket? If aftermarket, whats invovled with titling it (I want this to be completely legal)? Any pics of a a Buell'd sporty? Im NOT looking for another tuber, I want something that with metal bodywork that I can make my own (I LOVE sportbikes/Buells, but I wish there was more customization available with looks). |

I'd suggest going for the street tracker look (like what Omar's does to the XS650). Minimalist; short, light and functional. What the XR1200 could have been. |

tq - thats for a XB, I have tuber stuff it is a sick looking bike though! Elsinore - Yeah I dont know what I would do for sure, but thats something that I've always liked (trackers). Its just an idea that came up last night with my father. I'd mentioned that I wish I didnt have the debt that I have (im in college + just got a new car), that I'd like to build a cool little harley. He said "well you got a motor and a lot of parts, you just need a frame..." and that got the wheels turning. We'll see, appreciate the suggestions and opinions |

Beyond the swingarm, why couldn't you use a tuber engine in the bott frame? Are the attachment points not the same? |

I vote you get a sportster frame. One before they went to rubber mounting. I would love a 154hp XLH1125! Try to get it as close to stock as possible with a peanut tank and headlight eyebrow. I'll never understand why H-D doesn't install the Vrod engine in something(ANYTHING) else. |

1125 engine wont fit the sportster frame without extensive mods. check my profile pic, there is a pic of what i did to my 2001 sportster a few years ago. i did a couple decent threads on it at xlforum. same username. |

The swingarm thread: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php? p=2534460#post2534460 The front end thread: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php? p=605302#post605302 Caveat: I'm not a master builder. There are a lot of things I would change knowing then what I know now. Both projects were significant learning processes for me, but they turned out allright and were a lot of fun (and headache) doing them.

Puddlepirite - that's tight - not bad at all - plenty of potential there - one question - where did you get the frame? EZ |

The frame was made by Harley. A welder friend of mine helped me split and widen the fender struts and bracket, then welded on some brackets that we machined for the upper shock mount and lower shock mount. Making the brackets and fitting them on the frame properly was the biggest ordeal. |
