Haven't listened to much from Bundy. A few things are obvious. He's not a good communicator, he's spending too much time in front of a camera, and he's not got a clue how to deal with the media.
You stick anyone in front of a camera for hours you get stupid comments. Obama or Bush or your neighbor all have clips of dumb.
I can understand he or an adviser want to keep up the 15 minutes of fame. In his case because there may be a hellfire armed predator circling his house waiting for attention to wane so they can blame the explosion on fracking.
He's also wrong on several things.
F&*$ all is as bad as slavery. I don't care about the obsolete "negro" but I know dependence and the plantation today is multi ethnic. Don't know if the uncut version clarifies this but if he only talks about ethnic groups then........ .... he might be a turd.
I could do a rant on the D party wanting to keep minorities on the plantation. List the history of laws that seemed to have good intentions but resulted in horrible damage to the family and self respect. And more importantly the evil that refuses to correct the bad laws.
I would never suggest that anyone learn to pick cotton. That's insensitivity to modern norms you'd expect from a jacka.. redneck.
Even old farts like me that think teens should learn a work ethic don't expect any but hippies and Amish would work on a farm. ( hows that for insensitive bigotry? ) Even seasonal harvest work is just not on for modern youth.
Burger King......... that's where proper disrespect for the consumer and hatred for The Man is properly bred!
He might be. That's still no reason to look the other way on what the government has done to his ranching business. And he might not be a turd. I really don't know. I do know our government can be tyrannical.
ARGH, .... he might be a turd. I am a turd. Anyone can be a turd. You are all allowed to be turds in America. Racists? It is not against the law to not think like everyone else. Bundy a racist? Come on, He thinks like most old white guys I know that try to eck out a living. Some black people call me a cracker. Some hispanics call me vo leo. I've even been called "my negro". I don't go around calling them racists every time I disagree with them. I see people sifting and sorting others in to categories all day long. Just what humans do. I call people slackers, would that justify the trampling of my rights? Not in America.
Reindog has it right. Leftists insult and demonize because they have no fact based argument. Since the rationalization for their position is based on emotions prompted by partial lies that's all they got.
Most of us don't run our livestock on state land. Some of us recreate a lot on that land and almost all of us use it sometimes. All of us are affected by that land's use.
Food prices have jacked up because of food for fuel, herd reduction, water diversion, and critter protection.
There are issues with livestock density that may be in play here. A cow takes many acres to raise and too many in too small a space makes the marginal land into desert. See the Sahara.
Or Harry and his deals are the real reason for APCs and gross violation of civil rights in this case.
Combo of both? Plus ecofreak domination of bribes?
Any of us could be affected by a New London CT move to steal our homes to give the land to a rich developer.
Perhaps Rocket is right and we are peasants under an oligarchy.
I don't know who know this and who doesn't, but the Day by Day cartoon you posted completely misrepresents Bundy's comments. I know, this is a small detail, but it's central to the demonetization of Bundy. Anyone listening to the "full video" will hear Bundy explicitly state that we would never want to go back to slavery and never said they were better off. He did come near that territory, posing a question as a "I wonder if" sort of statement. I personally think he is way off the mark on many implications of his wondering. At the same time, the reality is that many blacks living on government subsidies are pretty much told where they can live, effectively controlling many more factors that have long lasting effects on their ability to make life choices that will offer them prosperity and true freedom to do as they please.
I'm still a little suspect of what was going on in that video. It picks up Bundy mid-sentence. It looks like some sort of informal interview situation. We know reporters were there. Why was he so far off topic of what was going on with his ranch? Was he asked a question to get a response that could be used to demonize him? Even the "full video" is out of context. My questioning this isn't about defending Bundy. I'm questioning the motives of the "reporters". This is quickly becoming like quoting Sarah Palin saying she can see Russia from her house. Many people still believe she said that. Sad!
Bottom line, none of us would have ever even heard of Bundy if he weren't a victim of a tyrannical government. Those who are demonizing the victim are also supporting tyranny. I have serious problems with them.
Open comment for the leftists. (Rightists might learn something too )
I've been getting more and more torqued at Georgie Bush.
Free speech zones. Bullcrap.
Yes. I'm a little late to the party. I was distracted. My bad.
In part I'm also mad at his enemies.
Instead of complaining about real problems Many just parroted lies. You screwed up. If you had put forth true and rational arguments about the loss of liberty under George you would have had many allies across the board. Now that others are making the same complaints about Barry you are missing a chance to get allies for freedom by defending him.
Instead many jumped on Saddam's propaganda and said stupid lies like "there were never any WMDs in Iraq". Just recently I was vehemently told that and the Proof I was told was that the evil US government had given WMDs to Iraq. I really hope I'm not the only one that gets how insane that is.
So for years I've been dealing with lies and angering people who object to being told the truth....... when all along I could have been on their side fighting the forces of rich guy tyranny.
So here's a few hints.
Pick your fight. I'm really big on sexual freedom. It's none of my business what yo do in the bedroom and it's none of yours what I do. I hope we can agree it's none of Washington's either. Oddly when I try and get agreement on the idea that we should all draw the line at kiddie rape...... I get silence. Weird.
Support freedom. PERIOD. When protesters against ANY administration are forced into fenced off compounds......... bitch. I might walk beside you carrying signs on the forbidden public sidewalk.
Don't lie. And if you find out you've been told lies rethink your position. It can be hard to find out those you respected are not at all worthy. Be careful of who you make a hero.
I'll try very hard to follow this advice. If you follow it you might find others agree more than you think.
Remember most political arguments end up "your lying sack of crap is worse than my lying sack of crap".
That happens to be true if we're talking about Joe Biden.
>>> I know of over half a million US citizens who are essentially under the direct control of the US Congress, who are taxed without federal representation. Why aren't you "patriots" over there encouraging them to arm, resist, secede, etc. against federal tyranny?
Red Herring. But easy answer...
It's mandated in the constitution and for good reason. Also, the trampling of human rights via heavy-handed military operatives is not happening in DC. That said, when your liar in chief mandated that the govt shutdown should be used to hurt the people, and he tried to close the war memorials in Washington to the public, a group of patriots convened and defied your dear dear leader then too. Cowardly bully in the White House needs to answer for all such misdeeds and scandals. When the senate is turned over to the Republicans this coming election, let's hope that the rule of law and justice may prevail.
"Trampling of human rights?" That's how you characterize Mr. Bundy's plight? It's his "human right" to graze as many of his cattle on any public land he wishes, to refuse to abide by the terms and conditions of such public grazing access, and to flagrantly disobey court orders? If he gains title to the land, he can graze as much as he likes, just like the olden days. He does not have a "human right" to be an outlaw cattleman.
You guys are also characterizing the government action to remove the cattle as heavy-handed. Do you think the level of equipment and manpower employed was simply for fun? Or is it more likely that the tacticians correctly anticipated politically-charged armed resistance in an isolated area, and were working to ensure that those individuals ordered to enforce public law by removing a large herd of cattle from a wide-open area were adequately protected from danger? What do "patriots" expect when they openly arm themselves in opposition to law and order? They would have garnered much more sympathy if they had arrived defenseless.
And yes, if I see states' rights-preaching "patriots" working hard toward DC statehood so that hundreds of thousands of their law-abiding brethren can enjoy the same political rights they do, I will give the "patriots" their due. The Virginia side of the original DC devolved many years ago; there's no constitutional reason why most of the rest can't either. Until then, I'm pretty certain of who the "patriots" see as their own. Mr. Bundy's drama is demonstrating this quite clearly.
I do see your point. That's a LOT of people without a voice in Washington, and they live right there.
How about we do that. Give D.C. Statehood.
I'd also like to give the Southern Tier of New York State Statehood. They have no one to represent THEM in Washington. The NYS reps are all from large cities. Not one has experience with farming, or small town life. Or being taxed to pay for big city social programs while the small town programs get so much less proportionally.
I'm sure than if we properly Balkanize the US that we can have much fairer representation for all of us.
Washington State is a good example. You know it far better than I do. Are the Senators from Washington all from big cities? Perhaps if we divided WA up into smaller political units it would be far more fair. you've got the usual 2 Senators and only 10 Congressmen. In NY we have 27 Congressmen. Hardly fair.
How about we break WA up into...oh, how about 100 equal squares? Just as a thought experiment. We'll fill in the edges where the state isn't square by area, Ok? Give each 1 Senator, and 2 Congressmen. Maybe 3 or 4. That would give the WA Concordia 100 Senators, and 200-400 Congressmen. We'll do the same across the nation. No need to alter any of the other legal or territorial arrangements, State police, Road repair, etc. That kind of thing is possibly best left alone until we can feel our way to a better system.
Oh I agree with you that this Cattle thing is not what the news or the right wing nutjobs are saying. More to this story.
Were there a bunch of armed up "militia" nuts at the Bundy ranch just waiting for a fight? Is that the reason for the snipers? Did Bundy threaten to kill anyone who touched his cows?
I don't know the answers to those questions. Do you? If so please tell me and give references.
Bundy has many Issues one the western states lands are improperly in Federal hands Nevada was a cooked up state to get Lincoln elected it didn't have the needed 60 k population it was short 20 k or so. Federal lands are a major issue. Was this land home steaded? Adverse possession Bundy was on the land openly and notoriously for nearly 150 years. In most states its His! A 1990s Judgement may not be valid if not renewed as it aged out of the system. Property Issues are handled by Local courts and the Sheriffs no matter whom owns the property. This brings us to the BLM rules. The Blm was founded to help the farmer and land user etc to Increase yields and rotate crops with the Aid of Cooperative Extension Offices Improve the farmers and ranchers Life The Blm was funded by land lease and or grazing fees. Bundy and most others have found the BLM has been changed to get the land use leases to be a method of getting them off the land and to be sold to all manner of political partners of the Congress Critters Bundy needs protection from the Demonrats Dingy Harry and his family have too much personal interest in this for it not to be investigated. Bundy has the right to be a non PC outrageous crank. But the Demonrats do not have the right to kill him over some grass and a Dingy Harry Scam! The BLM position the cattle have to go TODAY after 22 years of failing to enforce a judgement Something stinks in Denmark! Harry Reids statement something is going to happen to Bundy. Is why Bundy should be guarded. I don't have a obligation to agree with him but I do have the Responsibility to Protect him from a tyrannical government! When ever Demonrats have power for to long the kill they citizens or imprison them! Wilson. Roosevelt both inprisoned Americans Clinton didn't he is like Obama he just has his and her enemies Killed The left wants to have rule by men not rule by law. Be careful what you ask for you might just get it! Unlike lefties we are Capable and Ruthlessly pursue our goals.
The human rights I was thinking of are freedom of speech, travel, and due process (tasering and assaulting people, threatening to shoot people...), not to mention the filthy corruption that led to it all.
Odd how some are blind to the above. Chilling actually.
Buellkowski, check your facts ... The Bundy did arrive defenseless. The militia and their arms showed up after Bundy and his family members had already been in physical confrontations with armed federal agents. Not before.
If you do not think there is a lot of corruption going on in government right now you are not very well informed. As I have stated many times before in different threads on BadWeb; become informed, knowledgeable and vote very carefully in the upcoming elections and send these corrupt politicians packing and lets see if we can get some in who will act on OUR behalf and not their own pocketbooks and dynasties!
You've been complaining about the current administration for at least 4 years now, but you're not man enough to stick to your word and do what you feel is right.
1. We have only just begun to reveal the criminality of the current administration. Republicans joined Democrats to force the ouster of Nixon. It is time for Democrats to stand up and join us to get rid of this mendacious, Socialist thug out of the White House. 2. What exactly do you mean about the manly and sticking thing? Are you inciting violence? 3. Where in the world do you get the audacity to speak for what I and others believe?
I expect nothing less than crickets chirping in lieu of a response from you. Surprise me.
Tom (Reindog): "We have only just begun to reveal the criminality of the current administration. Republicans joined Democrats to force the ouster of Nixon. It is time for Democrats to stand up and join us to get rid of this mendacious, Socialist thug out of the White House."
I totally agree on this Tom but we also have to educate at least 51% of the voters in this country to do the right thing at the polls in the next elections, as I said earlier, as many of the politicians are a very clannish group and with either party want to retain their power.
“It is interesting to hear certain kinds of people insist that the citizen cannot fight the government. This would have been news to the men of Lexington and Concord, as well as the Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. The citizen most certainly can fight the government, and usually wins when he tries. Organized national armies are useful primarily for fighting against other organized national armies. When they try to fight against the people, they find themselves at a very serious disadvantage. If you will just look around at the state of the world today, you will see that the guerillero has the upper hand. Irregulars usually defeat regulars, providing they have the will. Such fighting is horrible to contemplate, but will continue to dominate brute strength.”
- Col. Jeff Cooper
Should shooting start, it might be surprising how well the "patriots" fare. Defections from the military would probably be massive, and include entire military bases. BO lacks either the respect for the fear required to get career Generals to turn on the Constitution.
As I've pointed out a number of times, I don't know if Bundy is a racist. I've never met the man, much less discussed race issues with him. At this point though, I'm more inclined to take the opinion of those who do know him, over a reporter from a news station that has a long history of distorting facts to suit their desires. This man does know Cliven Bundy...
The media distorts information to the point of social division. This is a photo of myself and the resilient, often charismatic, and maybe not so tactful Cliven Bundy. He’s a cowboy and a helluva family man, not an orator. One thing he definitely isn’t — a racist . . .
I found his comments to not only be NOT racist, but his own view of his experiences. Who the heck are we to determine another man’s perspective on the world around him?! Just because Picasso’s view of the world was abstract, does it negate the fact that his art was genuine?
Furthermore, if you take the time to do your own research, you’ll find that his statements about some black Americans actually hold weight. He posed a hypothetical question. He said, “I wonder if….” Hell, I’m black and I often wonder about the same about the decline of the black family.
Bottom line is that we are all slaves in this waning republic, no matter our skin color. Mr. Bundy could have used any racial demographic as an example: Native Americans on reservations, whites in trailer parks, etc. He noticed the crippling effects of receiving government “assistance” and the long term result of accepting handouts. It’s not progress at all.
I challenge Sean Hannity, Rand Paul, and others to read my comment and reconsider their position in this matter. Individual liberties are at stake here, yours and mine. THAT is the issue. Don’t let the liberal media and ignoramuses like Glenn Beck and that weasel Harry Reid make you lose sight of the real issue here: The federal government is a burgeoning behemoth and a bully on a once constitutional playground.
I sincerely hope you real patriots out there can see through the smoke.
My old unit has a detachment in Utah. They are on 'alert' for this frackus. Once they labelled Bundy as 'Dometic Terrorists' the balloon when up.
This is the same Unit that had armed snipers and scouts up on the roof top of the WTO riots in Seattle. Had the State Police gave the call to the Governor - we were weapons hot, scope on, and motoring in, in minutes. 6 APCs from Boeing field into down town, ETA 12 Minutes; 3 squads of armed 'guardsmen' ordered to 'Protect and Defend critical infrastructure and property from vandalism, theft, destruction, and 'mayhem' "
This has all been done before Welcome to the Party.
PS Our unit was at Waco, and Ruby Ridge as well .... seeing a pattern yet ?
DENVER — Behind the hoopla surrounding Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s standoff with the Bureau of Land Management is a growing resentment over the federal government’s status as the largest landowner in the West.
“This is so much bigger than one rancher in Nevada,” Utah state Rep. Ken Ivory, who heads the American Lands Council, said in an April 23 online debate sponsored by The Salt Lake Tribune. ...
