I've got a question that keeps nagging me and I'll bet my main-man Fred the Furious can help.
The administration pledged to be the "most open and transparent in history". (See the speech he delivered in Elria, OH. By the way he promised we'd get to know who visited The White House and that was a problem. He also promised "no lobbyists" then took more contributions from lobbyists and hired more lobbyists than any administration in history . . another story for another day)
They tell us, with confidence, that "nearly 7,000,000 have signed up".
Yet . . .they tell us they have no records of the ages of the folks who signed up or IF THEY PAID.
Be mindful . . .they didn't say they wouldn't tell us . . Jay Carney told us they didn't know.
Apparently large health insurance companies keep track of who paid. Paying is a condition precedent to being insured.
Perhaps a good thing he is not with Aetna . . a company citing Obamacare as the reason they are withdrawing form the health insurance markets.
We've now reached the "deadline" and have fewer folks with insurance in the USA than we did before this mess started.
I was also disappointed to learn that the ACA provides health insurance to illegal aliens (who have entered this country illegally (by the way, we also will pay their premiums) while specifically excluding insurance to those with "special needs" (See page 50 in Section 152).
If this is the way they fix things . . . .we're in for a heck of a ride.
We've now reached the "deadline" and have fewer folks with insurance in the USA than we did before this mess started.
And that's the bottom line. No doubt this is the reason that they don't want to release data on how many have actually paid. Reasonable estimates are that it's a net loss, even with the bulk of those who signed up either going onto Medicare/aid or having their premiums mostly paid for by the government. Those healthy young folks that were promised free insurance failed to take the bait, realizing instead that this is going to fall on them to make the economics work. The real problems won't start until the mandate on businesses fully kicks in though. What election is that being put off to at this point? That's when people lose their insurance en masse! What a cluster party!
Aetna was the first company to leave Washington state when our rendition of this hit 20 years ago. And having worked for them at the time - I can tell you - they watch numbers and markets like hawks ; if Aetna bails - the others will follow; just as it happened before.
funny - nobody paid attention to a market analysis when they launched this mess....
PS Aetna is going to do fine- they are moving into the Chinese markets quite well.
There should be a national enrollment for 'Nut' insurance - for those that want nuts, but can't afford nuts. Let's be honest - when the poor access the nuts without paying for them; we all pay higher prices. Maybe a nice website to go with it too. www.Gov4Nuts.gov ......
if not today - soon only the rich will be able to afford to be nuts.....
The best investment is bribing a corrupt politician. A million dollars can get your company a billion. No other business plan has a return on investment like this.
The architect of Obamacare has some views on the eugenics higher morals of deciding if you are to be allowed to die for the greater good. He denies that this is anything but a sober consideration of the practicalities of Social Medicine, and in a way they are.
There are no death panels.
"death panels" such a harsh and unfair phrase. It's actually "worth panels" and they are the panels that will decide the parameters of the computer program that will decide if you are to live or die. ( so THEY have no moral problems )
This is NOT NEW THINKING. It is actually a reboot ( in the US ) of a very popular movement from the late 19th & early 20th centuries. In other Social Medicine countries there are various versions of cost control in many cases disguised as "quality of life" control, as in the Dutch euthanasia rules or for a closer to home example, Liver Transplant rules.
Most recently famous was a case where the Mistress of Social Medicine K. Sebelius refused to over ride the rules on liver transplants to save a little girls life. ( a court did that instead ) less well known is that the rules forbid giving liver transplants to suicides, since they are a poor risk for long term survival and fresh livers are a rare commodity.
Stated baldly, common sense and practicality can sound very harsh. OTOH very evil things can be disguised as practicality. I leave it to you to apply your moral code. ( because I don't trust theirs )
Very practical people, those who favor Socialism. The necessity for re-education camps after the Revolution and the need for population control to save the environment, and the need to ration health care to the appropriate voting blocs are all of a single cloth.
You should take a look at the schematics of the OECD math for projections on mortality, morbidity and 'health'
They can - and have - estimated to 100 unit markers (left as blank constant because of currency fluctuations ) that will determine if entire segments of population are eliminated.
the frightening portions of it is that when the marginal kill variable gets LOWER - the easier it is to kill off thousands... so it is not that the weight of the 'unproductive' is so heavy .... it is that there is a paradigm shift in cost efficient ways to kill them off.
When the cost is less than 3 cents around; 5 seconds of time, and 1 aggregate hour for disposal - it is GO time.... again.
ie - when it is cheap to cart everybody off to the camps vs paying them and having them as political clout - it is time to kill them off.
wait and see The OECD work is nearly 20 years old - and it ties into British White Papers and Society Justice Structures of Transition, Resilience, Sustainability.
enjoy the show - the machine is getting hungry again
If this is not repealed, replaced, revoked, beheaded.... it will divide the states along the same lines that 'free' states vs 'slave' states and the rivalry we had back in the Civil War get a shot to ramp up again.
Because the first one was not about slavery the second one will not be about 'health' but they will certainly gin it up to be.
watch the Slavery and Dixie and Confederate iconography to become more prevalent,.... and surprisingly employed the most from the NAACP sector themselves.
It would be an interesting info graphic to see the 'slave' states compared to the states that are 'free from Medicaid expansion' .....
out to see if anyone has already done that (of course there are more states now - rumor has it we are up to 57 ! )
60. Most people get that wrong. Our Glorious Leader joked he'd campaigned in 57 states with 2 more to go and his staff wouldn't let him go to Hawaii. Total 60.
If I'm going to insist on the truth I have to defend it no matter who it is about.
The IdiotInChief is on TV right now saying how great Sebelius is. It is a sickening spectacle complete with 100% toadies in the audience literally jumping and down over themselves applauding. The most interesting thing for me is that the Presidential Flag in the background is purposely displaying arrows, not the olive branch.
When did success of this system become enrolling 7 million people through the system? I though it was about getting health care for 48 million uninsured. How many uninsured are there now? Shouldn't that be the measure of success?
I think BO has declared "Mission Accomplished" on this exactly in the way that they twisted GWB's words to be. The stuff is really going to hit the fan in 20?? when the employer mandate gets implemented.
"The IdiotInChief is on TV right now saying how great Sebelius is." Lie lie lie. Repeat the lie often enough, and it becomes the truth. It's worked for them in the past. Why not now? They're not even pretending they're not lying any longer, but as long as the press doesn't call them on it, who cares? The low information voter, and those on the dole will suck it up.
carry on. as long as this bill and the ideology that supports it is in charge - we will continue to march to the other wickets.... just like f'n clock work.
How is it possible to write that article, detailing those facts, only to end with a final sentence that actually praises what BO and the government have done. It was 5 paragraphs about how no doctor will see a patient with ObamaDontCare insurance, ending with 2 sentences of mindless praise. Insanity!
