and don't forget you will be eating at Tim Horton's every day! Like hell! unless they've seriously improved their coffee in the last year. Have to say, it felt ever so strange not buying a return ticket, that burning a bridge feeling. |

Innes: You'll be a chip shot from NYC . . . if you find time to visit let me know and we'll show you the "behind the scenes" . . perhaps on an old RS, RSS or S2. Do what I do . . . I use the Tm Horton's coffee cup and make my own with an Aeropress or Chemex. Comes from spending too much time in Portland lately. |

I rather think an early purchase will be a decent coffee maker of some kind. Then the experimenting with different coffees can begin. May well take you up on a ride Court as I doubt I'll have a bike on the road for a while. Took the M2 out for a bittersweet last ride on Sunday, shock's knackered but it still gave me a grin. Dismantling starts this weekend, everything except the frame will be coming over in the container, so I told it not to worry, it will live again in a different guise. |

For coffee I'd recommend either the Aeropress or Chemex . . . . lots of good info here. |

AH! Coffee toys! Got a Bodum French press & a couple more mundane makers about. Hell, if you're close to NYC, you aren't too terribly far from Maryland. Door's always open for another Bueller |

Things are progressing here, my garage is getting sorted prior to my departure. Stage 1 accomplished. M2 dismantled & crated along all my other odd Buell parts. Frame has gone to the scrapper so I can cancel the registation.(under european continuous insurance law if I have the registration I have to insure the vehicle.) This is what it looks like now.

Moving into a fully furnished apartment this morning includes internet & cable. Got my drivers licence exchanged yesterday, nasty surprise though. Now I was well aware that I'd have to retake my Heavy Goods Vehicle licence, but I have to retake my motorcycle licence too! It seems that my m-c class isn't recognized, which is weird. I can come to Canada on a visitors visa & ride a bike with my international licence, but if I'm resident here I have to take a theory & 2 practical tests to get my licence. When I pointed this out in a polite but puzzled manner I was told by the nice lady "Welcome to Quebec". I'm going to have to do some more investigating on the subject. While waiting to get my picture taken for the licence I got chatting with a guy who'd just crashed his GSXR due to sand on the road. He was getting his personal gear replaced by the provincial insurance system. However he was paying 1100 CAD a year for his plates, yikes! Doesn't look like I'll get much seat time this year. |

A couple of surprises on the DMV requirements, huh? Sort of gives new meaning to the slogan on the plate "Je mais souviens" (sp?). 1100 for a MC plate? Any chance that's on some sort of scale and not across the board? At any rate, glad you're settled in okay and have internet so you can keep us informed. Sure would be nice if you could visit during the ADK III, but if not, there's always the ADK IV. |

Nother nasty surprise today, had to go get a medical form filled in by a doctor. Got there about 20 mins before opening at 8am, took a number then waited over an hour to get registered & told $160 because I'm not yet on the system here, the air around my head must have turned blue but hey if it's got to be done it's got to be done. So I got out my private health insurance direct pay card, nope cash only. Grumble grumble off to find an atm back to the clinic pay the snotty lady & get another number. I then find out from the girl sitting next to me that the clinic 2 blocks down only charges $60 but they're only open for walk-ins on a wednesday. I figure I'll be ahead in the long run as I'll earn more than $100 in 2 days & I bite the bullet doing my best Yosemite Sam impression Oooooow. Fast forward through the boring bit, 4 HOURS LATER!!! yes 4 f*****g hours!!! I get to see the doctor after a nurse has taken my blood pressure, the 4 hr wait is probably to let it return to normal after the fiscal shock. Doctor asks all the relevant questions & ticks all the relevant boxes & signs the form, 5 min tops. Out to see the receptionist, here's the paperwork. That'll be $50 dollars please, wtf for? administrative charges, that's rubber stamping the doctors signature with the clinic stamp & writing a receipt for $210. Aaaaaaw I'm the rootinest tootinest goshdarned.... And we're out & hurry hurry because it's 13:20 & I'm parked on the side of the street where the cleaning truck passes between 1300 & 1400 on a monday between 1st April & 30th November. Round the corner, too late $53 ticket. OOOOOOOOOOOW I'm a gonna.......
As everybody keeps telling me "Welcome to Quebec." |

Been looking at motors & I can pick up Ford Exploders pretty cheap here. Currently checking out 02-05 models available with 4.0 V6 or 4.6 V8, from what I've managed to see there's not a lot of difference in the fuel consumption so I'll likely go for the musical one. Anything to look out for? They seem to hold up pretty well on the rust side. Been looking at other stuff as well but this is looking "Best bang for the Buck". |

Check the heads/rocker covers for oil leaks. The hot oil runs down the block and eats into the rubber steering isolators (or some such thing). It makes for interesting driving! (DAMHIK) Chris C |
