I go help a bud move an air compressor, and you guys are fighting the war of 1812?? Well, it is the 200th anniversary of the ending of that war. I don't think anyone disputes that GB is a great country. However, it used to be a greater country. It's dominant role has been succeeded by the United States and in due time so shall America be dethroned and when that time comes people will bitch about that country's heavy-handedness. I just hope they will be as relatively benevolent as the U.S. has been but I doubt it. |

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2576490/Ar e-Blackwater-active-Ukraine-Videos-spark-talk-U-S- mercenary-outfit-deployed-Donetsk.html Has Blackwater been deployed to Ukraine? Notorious U.S. mercenaries 'seen on the streets of flashpoint city' as Russia claims 300 hired guns have arrived in country Unidentified armed men seen on the streets of Donetsk in east Ukraine Russian diplomat claims 300 mercenaries had arrived in Kiev this week Mercenaries in the region could give Putin pretext for military action Donetsk has been the scene of big pro-Russian demonstrations this week Seems to be from.... http://rt.com/op-edge/ukraine-blackwater-mercenari es-russia-794/ On the face of it, the uniforms of the people in the videos are consistent with US mercs - they don't look like Russian soldiers mercs. On the other hand, why run around in public making a show of it?” said DM Dr Nafeez Ahmed, a security expert with the Institute for Policy Research & Development. “I think the question is whether the evidence available warrants at least reasonable speculation.” Ahmed also added that “Of course the other possibility is it's all Russian propaganda.” Why would Russia need to make such provocation? The Daily Mail explained that “any suggestion that a US mercenary outfit like Blackwater, known now as Academi, had begun operating in east Ukraine could give Russian President Vladimir Putin the pretext for a military invasion.” Other western media outlets are maintaining that a “Russian invasion” has already began, because the heavily armed military personnel now controlling all major infrastructure in Crimea are “obviously” Russians. And based on the theory that if you are armed others respect you. http://www.ksdk.com/story/news/nation/2014/03/10/u kraine-may-have-to-go-nuclear-says-kiev-lawmaker/6 257311/ The Chinese Perspective? http://www.shanghaidaily.com/article/article_xinhu a.aspx?id=205228 And commentary from someone far smarter than I am. http://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/president -obama-says-russia-must-be-punished/ |

City is right, the US Congress made the USAF pull the Blackbird out of storage, briefly, before the USAF scrapped them. ( lucky for us some went to museums ) The USAF was given the job of running the SR-71, and it wasn't cheap, but the take, the missions, and the tasking was most often for the CIA or the US Navy. So the USAF didn't like having to spend the money for something they didn't see the need for. Why this attitude? Well, IMHO the USAF was oriented to static targets. Airbases in particular, ( in the military, like kills like. Subs kill subs, fighters kill fighters, bombers bomb bombers.... ) We knew where every giant airbase in the Soviet union was a long time ago, and it takes long enough to lay multi-mile runways that the satellites will catch the construction. The Navy, OTOH, wants to see how many ships are in a given harbor, since they move. And the Navy wants to know how many are there TODAY. If you are sending a Carrier Group to go posture ( and be ready to kick butt ) for the current leadership's crisis of the day, you really really want to know if the nuclear missile armed frigates are sailing to confront you or parked in harbor. The Satellites will get you those photos next week. Even if you have top priority, the satellites have only a limited amount of fuel to change orbits and go look beyond their tracks, and a lot of the good cameras ran out of fuel years ago. And the Blackbird is Gone. So you have to send a TR-1, or risk kicking off the war your Carrier Group is supposed to stop by sending a flight of tankers and a recon pod equipped F/A-18 ( the F-14 is Gone, as are all the other Recon planes ) in to overfly the harbor. Through the middle of the enemy anti-aircraft missile range, in gun range, where they can SEE you and send up fighters, and where the shower of expensive aluminum/lithium into the harbor, with a human in it, makes it hard to deny you were spying on them. The "U-2" just cruises by quietly, and gives you the information usually without starting a war. |

John Kerry: Russia has until Monday to reverse course in Ukraine So this is terrifying, having Kerry put a deadline to Russia.
quote:Secretary of State John Kerry warned of serious repercussions for Russia on Monday if last-ditch talks over the weekend to resolve the crisis in Ukraine failed to persuade Moscow to soften its stance. ... “There will be a response of some kind to the referendum itself,” Kerry said. “If there is no sign [from Russia] of any capacity to respond to this issue ... there will be a very serious series of steps on Monday.”
Anyone care to guess if Putin tucks tail and runs? I wonder what "very serious" steps we can even take on Monday? I think Putin is in a position to do far more serious things on Tuesday. Our leader really do appear to be clueless on this.
quote:“I've been impressed on how united our European allies are on this… to a person, to a country, they are very, very committed to make sure there is accountability,” he said.
Well, that's what I've been asking about in this thread. Who exactly are these European allies? Are they making their opinions on this public?
quote:When Obama threatened to make good on his red-line threat to Syrian leader Bashar Assad, Russia helped avert U.S. military strikes by offering to step in and negotiate arrangements to have Damascus destroy its chemical weapons. Kerry said Russia had been helpful in pushing Syria on tighter deadlines for locating, moving and destroying its stockpile, but considering the crisis in Crimea, their cooperation going forward is an open question.
That's some amazing spin! Putin handed BO his ass on the Syrian red line. I don't even know how you spin ignoring deadlines as "pushing Syria on tighter deadlines". Perhaps I need to consult Orwell? |

Seeking to drive the Russian bear into the back of a cave and then prodding it with spears is bound to have dreadful results. Sadly, travel bans and asset freezes and even economic sanctions will not address the underlying problem. It seems clear that Crimea will revert to Russia. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin does not believe in win-win. He believes in zero sum, especially with the West. A little over two years after the Prague declaration, Putin announced the Eurasian Economic Union, building on the customs union that had already brought together Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. It was a declaration of war by competing unions, and soon the underlying dynamics began to reassert themselves. The largest of these were the self interests of the corrupt ruling groups in most of these republics, which would not be served by the better and cleaner governance practices that were championed by the EU. Pragmatism from Putin. From here..... http://blogs.reuters.com/john-lloyd/2014/03/12/the -retreat-of-the-eastern-partnership/ Rocket in England |

http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2014/03/14/russian-natio nalists-riot-maim-and-kill-pro-ukrainian-demonstra tors-in-donetsk/ This and other comments in the videos, as well as multiple pro-Russian comments on various YouTube threads, reveal a paranoid, hateful mind-set, which boils down to the following presumptions: (a) The Ukrainian revolution was the result of a vast Western-Zionist conspiracy against Russia; (b) all pro-Ukrainian demonstrators are violent Nazis, fascists, and traitors who have been paid with dollars by their American, European, and Zionist masters; and (c) the demonstrators are all intruders from Western Ukraine, the land of hateful worshipers of the “Nazi collaborator” Stepan Bandera Such absurd beliefs are the result of a massive campaign of lies, distortions, provocations, and propaganda that the Putin government has been disseminating through all available media channels, both inside Russia and in the Russian-speaking areas of Ukraine, aiming to discredit and demonize the recent popular uprising against the corrupt pro-Russian government of Victor Yanukovich. Among the various reasons to suppress the Ukrainian revolution, probably the most important one was the Kremlin’s fear that it may soon spread from Maidan to Red Square. After the Maidan uprising finally succeeded on February 22, the propaganda only intensified, with an added focus on stirring separatist sentiments and paranoia in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine, with the apparent goal of breaking the country apart in order to destabilize, demoralize, and subdue the new Ukrainian government – or, better yet, to absorb the breakaway regions into Russia. The same propaganda, in a more subtle and less anti-Semitic form, has found its way to the West — first through the usual hard-left and “anti-war” channels, as well as a hired army of trolls posting anti-Ukrainian and pro-Russian comments on the Internet and social media; then through more established news media and talk radio. An important part in this has always been played by RT, or Russia Today — the second most-watched foreign news channel in the U.S. after BBC World News and the number one foreign station in five major U.S. urban areas, boasting on its Wikipedia page about being “very popular among younger American people, U.S. college students, and in U.S. inner city neighborhoods.” Naturally, you must take this opinion article with a grain of salt. The author is notably biased against the Soviets. To be sure, this isn’t a conflict between Ukrainians and Russians, or between the Ukrainian-speaking and the Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine, no matter how much the Kremlin desires to turn it into one. It is a conflict of two mindsets, two ideologies, and two allegiances. One side is nostalgic for the old Soviet era with its imperial, autocratic , and collectivist mode of existence. The other side desires freedom, individual rights, and the dignity of living outside of Russia’s shadow. so am I. Good read. Opinions? |

You can tell a lot of things from the sound a ship makes, right down to the hull number and cargo (in some cases). 99% of the time we knew when a specific ship was getting ready to leave the harbor and if it was laden for a long or short trip before they ever got out of the harbor... |

So the EU, is there actually any feedback from the Subjects? Or do you have to be very rich and bribe someone, like the Obama Administration? Sorry I don't understand your question in relation to the '20 year plan' link posted? Is England happy being the Subjects of a Bureaucracy that takes aid money and uses it to train riot suppression troops? It's a little early to say given the article stating such is only a day old. You can read the comments there of some, which ask for a thorough accounting of where the UK's aid money is spent by the EU. No doubt questions will be asked at high levels. The outcome of such questions will likely depend on how much media and therefore public attention the matter receives. I suspect little given other issues will take up reporting space. What other idiocy is Brussels up to? Are you serious? Where would you like me to start? How about at rock bottom level of dumbness. The 20 year plan was the Russian "propaganda" against the Oligarchs in the EU. That the EU has planned to absorb the old Soviet states, I suppose. Presumably so Germany can try and conquer Russia again. ( unlikely, but they do keep trying, don't they? ) Note again, this is the Ruskie Pravda, not mine. I knew the EU was a quietly tyrannical bureaucracy, but..... "banning bikes more than 7 years old in urban areas". DAmn. Something to look forward to as our anti-colonial-forces leadership tries to make us into a bad copy of the EU. There is considerable debate on which model of excellence Obama desires. Some happily say Brussels, while others gloomily say East Germany. In the Wall years. Since no one actually thinks he knows his history, I have my own opinion. ( the leftists are proud of their ignorance, the centrists keep making historical comparisons the left doesn't understand, or declares paranoid and alarmist. There really isn't a right in the US anymore. ) |

The Russians will have many of the same issues they had in Afghanistan for Kazakhistan - more Muslim than ethnic Russian - you push that button, and you will find that they are not so docile in letting tanks run through the city (maybe not the first week - but definitely for many many months to come) My friend Nadya is Kazakhi and Muslim, and - like her sisters - trained in use of the AK. Getting a rifle for a birthday or holiday is a BIG deal for girls - and they get a bit competitive about who is best shot with it. Putin is not Rolling through with ease. Donetsk maybe a walk in the park - but it raises bells he will come to regret for the farcus and attention it causes - he could have maintained a strict grip of corruption for decades there - without tanks or troops |
