I'm on my feet all day and good socks are needed. I've always worn gold toe but the last batch didn't seem as good as they used to be. Has anybody worn the darn tough socks? Very pricey but made in the US and have a lifetime guaranty so they might be worth it. $20 for socks would add up since I go through two pairs a day. I was thinking these for work/riding and cheaper ones for the rest of the time. |

Darn tough, made in Northfield, Vermont. Its all I wear, I'm blue collar on my feet all day. They last a long time and in the off chance you damage a pair they honor the guaranty. You won't go back to Walmart socks. |

I’ve worn REI merino wool socks for years. They hold up well, and come in different thickness. They were always my favorite sock to wear while hiking in AZ, even in 115 degree weather. Merino wool wicks moisture extremely well, and stays cool when you need cool, and warm when you need warm. |

I've been wearing Fox River Fatigue Fighter socks for the past few months. So far, they're holding up pretty well and they feel good, too. |

I think you guys need to trim your toenails more often! I get a year or two from my Hanes/Walmart socks. I don't walk for a living though. |

For those on their feet all day I have 2 words for you: Orthotic insoles; the kind you get from a podiatrist. |

Merino wool wicks moisture extremely well, and stays cool when you need cool, and warm when you need warm. Yeah, but....... how does it know? |

+1 on the Merino wool socks. I'm currently getting them from Red Wing Boots or Cabela's. Both seem to hold up well. When I was on my feet for 11-12 hours in work boots, fitted insoles made a huge difference at the end of the week. Gold toe socks are only for moderate, dry weather when not spending a long time on my feet. |

New Balance 993 or 1540 with the custom insoles and matching socks (Adidas socks are good too, but the shoes, not so much) I stand 12 hours a day minimum. Feet feel great. |

Well I sore the dt socks and really like them. Usually thick socks get all bunched up in my boots and these didn't. Nice and thick and didn't make my feet sweat. These are the Marino wool I ordered a pair of the other material just to compare. Worth the $ imho. Tees-I was planning to talk to my Dr. About the insoles and see it I can get them through insurance. |

I have tried a lot of socks for biking, hiking, etc and Darn Tough are at the top of the list. Funny thing is that I had not heard of them until I moved to Vermont. |

I got the hike/trek full cushion boot sock. Very happy with those they're the merino wool. I just got a second pair to compare in the the coolmax cushion (full cushion is the whole sock cushion is the bottom). I'll let you know how they work out. But I think they're worth the $ if you're on your feet all day and go through a lot of socks. |

I wore the coolmax socks today. Fit/quality is very good but my feet sweat more than with the others. Might see about exchanging them. |

The best socks i have ever worn are these medical compression socks from CEP. They feel sheer like a dress sock but perform amazingly well and dont squeeze my toes or foot. http://www.cepcompression.com/dynamic-short-socks. html I usually pay about $19.00 a pair. They are expensive.........But after my ankle surgery these really help with pain and keeping my foot "tight" all day while i walk around for 11 hrs. |

I used to be a loyal wool sock guy, until I tried acrylic. Bacteria don't like acrylic. I've roughed it backwoods with the same pair of acrylic socks for three days straight, no odor whatsoever, no toe jam, just nice clean dry feet. What a Godsend. I'll never wear wool socks again for heavy outdoor use. |

Polypropylene otoh while it works great concentrates smells from other counties. Wash with tide w/febreze and it's fine. Otherwise you'll swear they're not clean. Good info here, thanks. |
