First, H/D and BMW owners are fussy about their bikes. They spend a lot of money and expect a great bike. Nothing wrong with being fussy, just be reasonable when you expect others to do your wrenching for you Second, Consumers Report lost my business when they started doing comparisons of features that were not relevant to my buying habits. I dropped my subscrip a very long time ago. |

My Harleys were all pretty reliable. At least as reliable as anything else I've owned, and a damned sight more reliable than my Honda 750 was. |

I read that article twice and came away knowing less than I did when I started. Touring bikes have a higher incident of repairs than cruisers? Would that maybe be because touring riders as a group log many, many more miles as a group than cruisers, perchance? If you ride 'em, they are going to break sometimes... Also, modern touring bikes have a ton of extra accessories that appear to make up the majority of the reported issues. Of course, when your heated swivel cup holder malfunctions, it's a big problem, but the other classes don't even have the failure points. Sport bikes do not appear to be represented at all. Were they eliminated from the survey to make a better headline? HD doesn't play in that market , but all of the other marques do....but who would read an article claiming that Suzuki is the worst motorcycle to own? (Suzuki used as an example - I think the Chang Jiang would actually be the worst motorcycle to own) The bikes that are the "Worst" also have the highest resale value... I don't even LIKE HD - and I need to call BS on the whole article. |

Just picked up an old '92 Electra Glide last week. Now I find out the only two motorcycles I own are #1 and #2 on the crap list. Upside: they are both old enough that all the bugs have been worked out. |

Consumer Reports is great for mattresses. Less so for cars, but they are improving. Bicycles? Useless. They rate 2 bikes identical except for sticker first & worst. Same frame, parts, factory. (Chinese ) Motorcycles? Seriously? |

I love the old school Harleys...back when they were real.Ditto for the lousy AMF bikes, such as my Sparkling America Night Train. The local new Harley owners don't even have a clue as to what it is and remind me of young girls at a Beatles concert....swooning over nothing they have a shot at..."Look at me,look at me. Look how cool I could be amongst my friends if I was with you".........../ |

Funny how when Buell used to get reviews like this we justified them as being "quirky".... |

Character is what you brag about. Quirky is when you're changing jetting & plugs at a rest stop. CU as I said has it's good points. Service stats are one of them. VW's have a history of electrical issues and oddball switch ergos. That part is of interest to most people. Where Consumer Reports falls down is handling feel past the measured cone course. I do not expect Sport Bike to give me stats on how often the glove box lid needs fixing........but I do expect them to tell me if it fell off on the PCH 5 times and they held the bike together with duct tape to get home. You learn to consider the source. |
