"Different strokes - different folks.......I personally think it is one of the best looking bikes I have ever seen." No accounting for taste, but wow. "With 80 hp and 352 lbs it should be fun to say the least. Makes my 35hp 330 lb DRZSM feel very uneasy about its spot in the stable." Lets see the weight and power when it has to meet U.S regulations,I think it will weigh more and have less power. "Would you rather have a machine engineered by Buell/EBR but built reluctantly by Harley Davidson, or a machine engineered by Buell/EBR and built passionately by Hero?" According to the article it was designed with assistance of EBR not that it was designed by EBR. "All I can do is shake my head.. One of the best engineering minds is behind the design and build" See above, EBR assisted in the design and an Indian company named Hero is behind the build. The 1190RX is a bike that looks the part and is made in the USA the Hastur not so much, can you say Hyosung which looked a 100 times better. (Message edited by xb984r on February 10, 2014) |

No accounting for taste, but wow. I am probably the only person on earth that was waiting for a Firebolt and Superduke to have a baby. Lets see the weight and power when it has to meet U.S regulations,I think it will weigh more and have less power. KTM 690 Duke comes to mind, along with the Yamaha FZ-09. Bikes are getting lighter and adding power. Just wait till direct injection becomes common place. (Message edited by speedfreaks101 on February 11, 2014) |

"@ hybrid.. yes I am backing because it is EBR. this a buell board after all and am interested in what they are doing and hope they do well" I want EBR to do well too...but this aint an EBR bike THanks for confirming what I said - you only like it cause EB had a hand in it, not for what it truly is. I love Buell, hell I bought some Buell branded brake fluid etc just to have on the shelf, shirts that I've never worn so as not to wear them out etc - but if a bike is ugly, its ugly no matter who made it. Blast - same thing, ugly little bike. Looked better cubed than it did on the road....except the Blastard |

The 1190RX is a bike that looks the part and is made in the USA the Hastur not so much, can you say Hyosung which looked a 100 times better. Do you really believe your own words? The Hyosung Comet is a crude Korean copy and a crude Korean built Suzuki SV650. An outdated and somewhat antiquated design by todays standards it has to be said. The Hastur is contemporary, displaying the latest of technologies amongst its design. A comparison does not exist between these two bikes, they being worlds apart in many aspects. Speaking as an Englishman. The first time I saw the S1 (on the cover of a magazine) I didn't rule out owning one because it was built in America. How dumb would that be. Rocket in England |

I do believe my words, that bike is plain UGLY and I bet the quality is about the same as Hyosung if not lower. I guarantee if the EBR name wasn't attached no one on this board would have a good thing to say about it. Just my opinion. |

Triumph: Yamaha: Honda: Hero: I understand how you may prefer one of these bikes over the others, but I don't get you guys that scream "UGLY!" about the Hero as if the others here are obviously beautiful. UGLY! (Message edited by Hughlysses on February 11, 2014) |

Did any of us say the others were good looking? No, I dont remember saying that....but I still think the HERO bike is hideous. xb9 - look on page one, one guy already admitted that when I brought it up |

No where on the link does it say the bike will even be built.. Good god. It says HERO/EBR concept. It does not say built by HERO, built by EBR. all it said HERO introduces possible bike with engineering done assistance by EBR with Erik Buell having a hand in it personally. Toss out more negative stuff without even knowing the full details of who, how or even IF it will be built. the 1125 is IMHO one homely bike. How can one scream ugly about this CONCEPT and own, ride an 1125. If it not for the side fairings I would may not have even bought the one I own. The 1190 is no beauty queen either. If hybrid is referring to my post, I said I was interested because EBR had and interest, not because I agree with his opinion on looks, build or anything else he has to say (Message edited by aaron thomas on February 11, 2014) (Message edited by aaron thomas on February 11, 2014) |

I do like the look of that Yamaha also. The Hero certainly looks the edgiest, which is probably a big win for their local demographic. The Triumph looks way too busy, the Honda looks like a bike that was nice before it was lowered into a giant vat of plasti-dip. |

I like the way all of them look, but the Triple needs to borrow headlights from the original Speed Triple (or a Ruckus). To me bikes are like women, I love'em all. |

I like them all, the Yamaha, Honda, and Triumph all have their styling strengths and weakness. but I guess I try to find the positive in most bikes. |

One thing I find appealing about the front of the Hastur is the not-so-suble anthropomorphism that the "face" of the bike presents. It projects the look of an "entity" seriously intent on getting its way through traffic in which non-riders would equate with motorcycle rider. Well, it's a concept, right? |

I also have to ask does anyone here REALLY think that erik buell would have a hand in a bike the quality of a hyosung? I guess some people have no faith in the man's genius, ability to guide his namesake company and connection with HERO. I have to question the intelligence of that assumption |

I really like all those bikes, except for the Triumph. I really like the Hero. I saw the Honda in the flesh this weekend and it's tempting. I'm not sure about the performance numbers after a Buell, but it probably hauls compared to the DR650. I am interested in the Yamaha and I'm going to look at it more. I really like it. I would like to see the Hero here soon, it would be in the running |

>>>> I bet the quality is about the same as Hyosung if not lower. I'd take that bet . . . . you'd loose. You need to scott over and learn a bit more about the EBR / HERO collaboration. Buell, the first ISO certified vehicle manufacturer, and HERO, who just completed one of the most elaborate design and innovation facilities in the world, have a good handle on how to meld innovative design and quality manufacturing. I'm not exactly in the market for a bike but that Hastur looks like it'd sell like hotcakes. Me? . . . I'd loose the goofy looking snout but I'll bet the bike bike, in terms of quality and performance, will be a dandy. |

If that Hastur showed up in a US showroom, with the specs it has, I would absolutely have given it a second look. A super light parallel twin middleweight sporty standard is a great niche. The SV-650 kind of filled it for a while, but the tank flares on it were too close in for my knees, and the styling never really got me excited (so I bought an M2 instead, a great move). I actually went out and found an old Kawasaki parallel twin naked standard. Sorted out the engine, fabricated a new seat / gauge cluster / headlight setup, and created a from scratch simplified wire harness. I just need to shorten and do the final routing in the wires and it will be back on the street. No idea how it ride, it was in a bucket when I bought it. I have high hopes for the 400cc parallel twin though. |

Reep, every time you mention that old KZ, I get misty and nostalgic; KZ440 was my first bike. I am sure it would come up short in all sorts of categories now for me, but it got me hooked on riding, back in the day. Same would go for the Hastur: "Just ride the motorcycle." |

Let's look at some of the Hastur rivals. Perhaps we can judge how bad the Hastur really is when we look at the competition. In the interest of fairness, the bikes are not mass produced middleweights or similar. These are the boutique style bikes offered by manufacturers who target a more exclusive market sector as this, looking at the style and equipment level of the Hastur, appears to be where it is likely to sit in the market. Of course, the Hastur being of Indian production could have some suggest it is misplaced amongst the bikes I've shown here. But this is the point of the discussion is it not. That being built in India as a new venture should not inhibit its excellence, quality, performance, and intended market. I believe for these reasons I have placed it well within this group.
Hastur seems to sit well with what's available in this sector of the motorcycle market. Just an observation. Rocket in England |

Rocket, nice comparisons - most with single sided swing arms. I'm liking the trellis tube frame swing arm on the Hero, though, carrying through the frame lines. |

This bike will be branded as a Hero, Erik would be smart not to have the EBR name on an Indian made bike, at least I hope he wouldn't. RX is a great looking bike with performance and most likely quality, please don't spoil it with bikes made in the third world. |

@ xb984r.. Why go back and look. I can to several friends and see them.. Only weak spot is the H/D engines. They all seem to be decent well built bikes. also way better looking than the XB or 1125. I still question why you think EBR having a hand in it is a bad idea? You must be a LOT smarter and better designer than mr. Buell. Or know something about HERO that he and his whole design team don't know. I also think Court would know a bit more about it than you ever will.. @ hybrid, stand up on your own words. don't go crying to Blake that I said it too. There is so much, in this thread, that is patently inaccurate that I've, for the most part, relegated it to entertainment. Rocket's comparison is excellent and makes me start thinking I may be a candidate. If you'd met the HERO folks I did . . . you'd know that the folks at HERO, the one's who just celebrated their 60,000,000th motorcycle during the same 10 day period as they opened their new $250,000,000 Innovation and Creativity Center . . . are capable of making products of world class quality in numbers well in excess of 10,000 per day. They are industrious, passionate and driven to succeed. Trying to do that, in today's connected world, absent top-in-class quality and support is a fool's errand. |
