I know 'I' could do it, but would not want average Joe driving down the road at 50mph, in something like that. There's the issue to crash testing, emissions, etc. It might work if it were say, a sand rail, go kart, etc.
would not want average Joe driving down the road at 50mph, in something like that...
I don't know about that,... they are big enough to see,.. fast enough as well. I would love to see them available as a cheap transportation option. People don't need all those regulations anymore... we have Obamacare. (lol)
that said...what about sending the recipient's a second package ... with crushable aluminum bodywork to be mounted in front complete with ready to install custom steering wheel and passenger side airbag in the plastic dash. ($$ option)
What I meant, is not the lack of skill of the driver, but the lack of knowledge about assembling the car!
I suppose it wouldn't be a bad option for a golf cart in some of their uses, like getting around a large estate, small housing development, a 'pit bike' sort of situation, up on Kelly's Island, but not on a public road. 85kph is what, 50mph?
Bad worksmanship? Wheels that come off at 85kph and hit you on your bike?
That's what I think Thumper is saying.
There's nothing wrong with a kit car, especially a quick build kit using modern techniques.
The most advanced airplanes flying today, besides Stealth Fighter prototypes, are kit built planes. The performance and utility of a modern US Experimental Home built airplane are incredible. It's a real case of cognitive dissonance to see a little 2 seat airplane with full glass cockpit, including full IFR with synthetic vision, IR/low light landing camera, and networked collision avoidance and weather displays.....
It'a also incredible the extremely fine workmanship that goes into some of these planes, like 1000 hours of sanding and painting the wings to achieve a nigh perfect laminar flow airfoil. ( that will cruise faster than a WW2 fighter on less fuel per mile than a SUV )
While there are certainly some fine craftsmen in garages world wide..... I also see a lot a fenders held on with duct tape. & bumpers. And my all time favorite......
I'm fine with the minicar idea, don't get me wrong. I think the current tadpole style Trikes out there now, like the Can-Am, are nifty too. There are some German built trikes that look like a space pod that leans...
I actually had a dream like 8 yrs ago... that I owned something like that... I parked it in a normal parking spot and folded the wings into one line and secured the blade tips to the tail somewhere... then I clicked the remote keyfab and it chirped like car alarm... then I went to work in the office. It was an awesome dream!
Or a few others that are pt. 103 legal. ( no medical, training, but no license, 254lbs, 5 gallons fuel, top speed 55 knots, (63mph) stall less than 24 knots..... basically )
