I had my header welded and think I'm going to wrap it since it ain't pretty lol. I know there's possibility of rot but under the circumstances I figure ill wrap it so it looks better. If I get black or colored wrap will the color hold or should I just get white? Also is one brand better than the other? Thanks Thomas |

Shouldn't be much problem with rotting. The header is stainless. I did some white on my Triumph under the seat. It winds up looking gray. I hear the black winds up looking dark gray. I think it can be spray painted with high temp paint though. |

I did a lovely grey wrap that went well with the frame color (can't remember the brand but it did come from jegs) and four years later, it's leached most if not all the color out. Kind of a greyish light beige now. I did take a peek under a while ago and no signs of the dreaded rust. I end up riding in the rain a lot and that's the reason for the color disappearing. While installing, it was coloring the bucket of water nicely. If you have to have black, just paint it after installing. Soak it well (stretches and smoothes out better) and wear some latex gloves when installing. |

It won't cause rot but it will cause cracks to form. When wrapped the metal gets much hotter, to the point where I have seen car headers crystallize and crumble. |

Did the header on my X-1 some years ago. Seems to be a worthwhile mod as far as rider comfort goes. Got the black wrap from Al at American Sport Bike. It seems to have morphed into its natural color, about like raw fiberglass mat. And most of the bikes I see w/wrapped headers are similar. To answer your question, go with white or natural, or plan on using hi-temp header wrap paint if you want a color that lasts for a while. Hope this helps, Dave |

I've wraped mine twice. Both dry and with good results. I'd reccomend the use of hose clamps instead of those chincy metal straps that come with the DEI kit. You can effectively mask off the headers and touch them up with the DEI stuff or hi temp black spray paint every year to keep the wrap looking new. |

Out of curiously, where and how did your Headers break? Loose/broken front muffler mount? |

Front mount broke causing the header to break as well as break the rear bolts going into the motor. It broke at the y and also cracked the actual pipe pretty good. |

I said thay wrong.. the bolt came out of the front mount causing the rest of the issues. Always check that bolt hindsight.. |

Thank goodness the bolts actually came out fairly easy from rear engine case, was holding my breath on that one! And two downsides to wrap--- it holds moisture against the pies so even the stainless get ugly. And UV kills it pretty fast so plan on replacing frequently. |

Yeah - I'd get some heavy ceramic HT paint, smooth the welds as much as possible and paint. EZ |
