Hey Jim! Where is that snorkel-meister blue oval powered unit of yours? Was it in the video? |

I actually have it mostly put together and on the road. My fuel pump just shit the bed but the jeep itself is just about done. I'll have to get some pictures up when I have time. I just bought a house about 8 weeks ago and been looking since March, that's the main reason why I haven't been around lately. Stupid life getting in my way of my hobbies. |

Was figurin to get a response from Jim on that one haha! When your settled in the new place you'll have to get down here for one of our jeep days. We burned through 32 pallets last night in the old train tunnel. (Message edited by Mikexlr650 on October 27, 2013) |

Jeep Jamboree. If you have the chance to do one, don't pass it up. It was a great time. Wheeled for 2 days and never touched the same piece of dirt twice.

Just ordered a new hood vent for those slow crawls. It should let a little of the heat out

Awesome deal. $$Cha-Ching$$$ Since I have over qualified my CJ for such events and I'm not backing it down.....I......well.....I joined a Corvette club. My first two day rally event is coming up in two weeks. Oh I hear the ole' cash machine churning already!! $$Cha-Ching$$$ My first time out will be as is stock, but when setting up for the next one hits, the first things on the list will be spare wheels and racing rubber with some rather pricy EBC brakes and a roll bar set up. Oh well, ya gotta live somewhere! |

After going thru "inspection" for the Jeep Jamboree, I think you would be fine. ya just need to hang a plate on it because you do run the road for 20 to 30 miles to get to different trail heads |

Sooooo.....they wear their dark sunglasses while inspecting the vehicles for rules infractions? I'd imagine as long as one is not behaving like an ass-hat they would not have problems with the Jeep's height and tire size. Oh well, for the moment I sure am not going to throw time and money at two programs like these. |

So you had to cut out most of the raised center panel for the vent louvers to work? That looks sweet. I like the black and white motif. |

Pretty much just under the vents. It came with a good template to cut out and trace on the hood. I dropped a couple of center punches into the window rubber bumpers to keep it in place while I put the screws to it. I think I'm going roll cage, funky front bumper and some flush mount rear turn signals this winter. I would love to replace the rear axle with a Dana 44... but that be the big bucks. I will keep the skinny pedal under control instead. |

I think I'm going roll cage Good choice... Just had one done for the Exploder (new seats too), and yep, that's a gun safe, er... "lockbox" between the center bars.
Be sure to find a welder that's familiar with 4x4 projects, DAMHIK Cool hood. |

Looks good, really like the "exo" portion beneath the hood running back towards the "A" pillar. As for the rear axle, go to the pick & pull and grab a Ford 8.8 axle off a 96 or newer Explorer; for rear axle applications, generally considered better than the Dana 44 at less than half the cost. Same wheel bolt pattern, appropriate width, and take the full compliment of locker options. The earlier (91-95) 8.8s will also work, but the 96 and newer have disc brakes, not drum. I'm sure you are aware of this option if frequent some of the Jeep websites... thousands of Jeeps have done this mod. Just a thought. . . |

An 8.8 from an Exploder is stronger than a Dana 44, and it comes with disc brakes. |

Several of the guys that wheel at my place have done the 8.8 swap. Great inexpensive alternative. |

Hmmm, looks like you'll be having MRE's as a consequence, no? JK, Mark, glad you're OK, that's $$$ well spent, even though it's highway robbery by Gordon Gekko for what they charge. |

I've officially got this bug, too. The XJ I got didn't stay stock for long - 3.5 Rubicon Express coils and leaf packs (they're way higher installed), Iron Rock SYE, front upper and lower control arms and adjustable track bar, Zone Nitro shocks, 31" Duratracs, some other goodies. Spent the last couple of weeks tracking down a driveline vibration. Got my front pinion angle dialed into within 2 degrees of the driveshaft and the rear within 1 degree, still vibed like a mofo. Took the rear shaft out and it was smooth sailing. Put the front shaft on the rear and still smooth. Put the rear on the front and pretty much smooth, but getting vibes up around 65 mph. I didn't go that fast with no front shaft so I'm not sure if all the bad shaft or tires. I'm thinking the double cardan of the shaft that's now on the front is not in great shape as the angle for that is less in the front than the rear and the vibes went away considerably, despite the u-joint angle being a little worse. Long story short - is rebuilding a double cardan difficult? |
