Picked up a 2002 Ducati monster 750, cosmetic damage but low miles (6500), all stock and well cared for-until the crash.
For $1500 I thought it was a decent deal but now I got to replace a small number of things..only to find out the gas tank is not so cheap. Can't wait to try it out before it goes up for sale in the spring.
So, anybody got a tank laying around?

As a former Ducati owner, I can tell you there is not much on that bike you can get for cheap.

Just ride the hell out of it.

I'm finding out the issue with gas tanks, most are bashed in from the handlebars during a crash. Apparently the fork stops are next to nothing worthwhile. That and most newer tanks are now plastic and are having issues.
This thing makes owning a buell seem like a bargain.

The dealer I bought mine from couldn't get it started, AFTER he had already dropped my cash in the time safe.

It took them 3 days to finally get it working and deliver it to my house, and on that day it was 7 hours late.

After 1 week, it got stuck in 3rd gear while I was decelerating to get off the freeway. I limped it to the dealer, and to their credit one of the mechanics gave me a ride home.

A few days later, they called and said it was never stuck in third gear, and couldn't find anything wrong with it.

I went down there, threw my leg over it, started riding home and *click*.... stuck in 3rd gear.

Took it back to them, they agreed that NOW it was stuck in 3rd gear.

Took them a week to call and say they had fixed the problem, I forget now what they said it was, but it was fixed.

Rode it for a few days, got to start trusting it again, and *click*. 3rd gear.

This went round and round for a year. They tried to charge me for fixing it the 5th time. I told them they could keep the f*cking thing if they would give me $10,000 for it ( I paid $16,800 cash).

They not only declined that, but told me I had to get it out of their shop, or they would have to charge me storage after 5 days.

I ended up selling it for $8000, stuck in 3rd gear.

First and last Ducati I'll own. Plenty of people I know love them, but this has left a very sour taste in my mouth.

My XB12R gave me 46,000 trouble-free miles for a lot less money.

Damn Pwnzor...that sucks! Went today to find out a replacement tank would be $2200.
I laughed and told him I'd bash in the other side to make my tank symmetrical before I spent that much. Time to get out the hammers and try an Indian Larry type dished look.

Cool bike, not very fast.

First the to do is replace the fuel lines inside the tank and outside.Filter also.

Replace the timing belts due to age, don't bother adjusting the valves .

Iwould also change the battery cables. When doing so pay particular attention to the relay and starter connections as they can get very dirty due to road debris.

I wouldn' bother with the tank if it holds fuel because everyone is looking for a steel tank.
Get a Desmotimes manual.

I'm gathering pieces and parts here and there, trying to keep it under $2K. A bunch of work was already done recently-won't even need to change the oil. Even the fuel filter/ lines have been changed, I'll look into those battery cables and I'm going to attempt retro fitting a plastic tank on this. I'll take some pics when the parts start to arrive.

If they are that much, somebody ought to use a non damaged tank to make a mold, and make a fiberglass reproduction cover, and just put a generic steel or plastic tank inside it. You loose some volume, but but it looks fine, and ought to be a $500 solution.

"why isn't 3-D printing being used to make replacement parts for bikes !??!!?"
I use one daily for work,(plastics), and I do make end use parts. Give it time. There are limitations with impact strength, flexural properties, solvent resistance, and even UV exposure stability. All important properties on a shaking 3 season, 2 wheeled torque platform. Failure of any part more important than tank trim or a cable stay can be catastrophic to a rider (or at least can lead to a very inconvenient stranding). The current processes that generate parts durable enough for our use are done on machines with a price point often well above CNC machinery. S3 saddlebag latches are unavailable right now, but it would be cheaper to contract a run of right and left sets off a CNC mill, than to 3D print them in metal. Give it time, the price for a metal laser sintering machine is easily 25% less now than the first time I saw one. Before long it will be practical to reverse engineer dang near anything the OEM discontinues.
