Dang! I can't back up my van & 5x8 utility trailer more than a couple of feet without having to correct.

How long did they practice and how many times did the drivers go out just a little too much?

Strok the long a trailer is the easier it is to keep straight backing. I'm way better at backing my 53' trailers at work than my 10' race car trailer.

And the on on screen left isn't even a trailer. A long wheel base with no hinge is real easy to back. There's still plenty of coordinating things going on though.

But what if they were going forward and show it in reverse? Still damn risky!

I wish we had those trucks in America.

I saw this stunt on national news and they said the trucks had limiting cables between them that weren't visible. I drove semis for 53yrs and I know I couldn't hold it that steady for that long.

Good call Sifo, the semi is going straight the whole time and the box truck is doing all the maneuvering. Still cool though.

Volvo has a lot of good shit going on with their "smart trucks". The "epic split" was to demonstrate the new Dynamic Steering system that makes it easy to go straight in reverse. Supposedly the stunt was done in one take.

The trucks were not "cabled"but Van Damme was. Also notice the special pavement markings in the video. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013/11/15/how-volv o-created-the-jean-claude-van-damme-video/

I've driven many Cabover Volvos & they're some of the nicest vehicles to drive well appointed, quality built. By US standards cabs aren't huge & even by European stds there's bigger. A 4x2 FH with a 45' tri-axle semi, I can put anywhere & just about turn in it's own length. Hell I could put one through the Dragon easily (with no traffic oncoming). The i-shift autobox is pretty good too once you get used to it, & it's an all-day comfortable drive.

That is INCREDIBLE. I **think** I know how they did it . . . it looks impressive . . . but, when you learn they used Velcro . . . well, then you see it's not quite as impressive.

It only works when the jet engines are using Amsoil. Only Amsoil can stand up to Chuck Norris and Big Twins. (Message edited by reepicheep on December 19, 2013)
