I have owned a couple of "bad guns". One of them was a Norinco tokarev copy chambered in 9mm. It was a POS, but I only paid $175 for it NIB.I sold it for $150 at a gun show. I finally will pick up the girsan on Friday. My local FFL has been closed due to a death in the family. At thumper. I also own a Mark III. I concur with you about the cleaning. Anyone looking for a nice S&W 9mm. Bud's gun store has VERY nice used ones for less than $400. a friend just purchased one. EXCELLENT for the money. They are LEO trade ins

Thanks for the Norinco Tokarev review, I have been tempted to get one of those on occasion. I'll stick with the Russian one, or instead just look at a CZ-52 and upgrade the firing pin.

Not that there's anything wrong with it, but all springfield frames and slides come from Brazil, even the Professional, and the Loaded models. These have major work done to them in the US, enough to qualify as "Made in USA", but their frames/slides do not originate in the USA, but Brazil. I guess you could still say 'American made' but you would mean "South America".
Gersan made in Turkey, oh well, they make some Remington and all Stoeger shotguns there too. I don't have any problem with it at all, just wouldn't buy one. I would very much like a Ruger 1911, and would like a Remington if it didn't have their firing-pin safety in it. I'm picky I guess.
California sucks for 1911 fans!!

California sucks for anything gun/firearm related.

Jayvee, I don't like the "series 80" style firing pin safety either. Messes up the trigger pull, and the trigger pull is the Prime Awesome attribute of the 1911. ( plus of course, over a century of usefulness, the ergonomics, and the Browning Legacy )

I like the type activated by the grip safety, like Kimber Series II uses, the Swartz design.

I also would be comfortable with the Ed Brown style Ti firing pin and stronger spring.....

A quick look shows that arguing about firing pin safeties is a major thing on shooting forums. So My Opinions above are just that. I also like the Para Ord LDA design, but have never owned one. There are very mixed opinions on that, as well.

To REALLY get a good "counter steering" type argument, you can always talk about disabling the grip safety!

I went to the range today. I cycled thru about 150 rounds of ammo in the Girsan. Every time I pulled the trigger it fired and cycled the next round. Accuracy was good. The sights are way better than the sights on my springfield. Fit and finish are very good for a sub 500 dollar gun. Nicer than guns I have seen for a lot more $$$. No regrets here at all. Several guys at the range I know saw it and were impressed with the price for quality

Aesquire, I have an LDA compact aluminum frame. A fellow instructor, and friend, came to me for CCW certification. He had a feed problem with his stainless framed version during the live fire qualification, and asked me to give it a try so he could figure out what it's doing from another vantage point. Dang thing ran like a Swiss watch for me, I was hooked. He's a good shooter and his technique is solid, but since that day we have had no fewer than four 1911s including my Para apart trying to figure out what is different about his. We still don't know. Mine runs great for me, his runs great for me, mine runs good for him, his occasionally still gives him trouble. The only issue I have with the compact LDA is I grip very high on the frame, and the LDA compact has no memory pad on the bobbed grip safety. the memory pad is only found on the extended tang grip safeties on their full size LDAs. if I'm gripping just a little too high to get those fast follow ups, the trigger won't move. Otherwise, mine has been a great trouble free shooter.

With good CNC machining centers being priced about what a new car cost I doubt there is any economic reasons for casting gun parts these days. Most of the Philipino guns I have researched were/are made from 4340 bar stock. I know a couple of guys who build 1911's for different purposes and they both like the low cost starting point these guns have.
