I am in the market for a mobile computer and I know there are probably computer gurus here. I am far from an expert. I am typing this on an Asus Transformer Prime. I like the idea of this machine but it crashes and some websites don't like the browsers. I also have an Asus G74S that I use as my main computer. If I find the right machine I would consider selling the G74S. I don't really game but wanted something with some guts and the ability to play game on occaison. Maybe I need something that I can use a full keyboard and connect a larger second monitor when at home/office. I want touch screen and I use MS Office and remote desktop. I would rather pay a bit more to get something that I will be able to use for a few years. I was looking at the Asus Taichi, Lenovo Yoga, Surface Pro2. I like the idea of being to drop the keyboard and just use as a tablet but it's not necessary. The Taichi is cool because I sell real estate and could show clients homes and pictures sitting across from me. Are there any others that I am missing that I should consider? Is there something I should really look for? From the research I have done it sounds like a 4th Gen processor helps with battery but is it really necessary? The Surface Pro2 looks interesting with i5 8GB ram and 256SSD at $1,299 here: http://t.tigerdirect.com/products/8564635 Should I shop elsewhere? Any good or bad experience with Tigerdirect? I like that there is a brick and mortar store in my town. I appreciate any insight so I don't make the mistake of buying the wrong machine again. Thanks in advance. |

I also have a Transformer Prime, it was great at first but I am like you and absolutely hate it, I replaced it with a Microsoft Surface RT Anyway, back to your situation, the Surface Pro 2 would be the one I would pick, if you have a Microsoft Store near you, you can always get it serviced there. The Surface lineup has several detachable keyboards depending on your situation, and can easily become your main computer because of how portable and easy to use it is. Regarding Tiger Direct, they are ok, not great but ok to buy from. Another contender to look at is the Dell XPS 12, we are deploying them at my job, they are a fantastic convertible, but the specs are not as good as the just released Surface Pro 2. |

I would like to buy a Surface Pro 2 256 but can't find it in stock anywhere. Where did you find yours? |

They appear to be in stock on the MicrosoftStore website (or at least it isn't telling me out of stock). There are a handful of retail locations in FL if you want to go check it out in person http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/ht ml/pbPage.PDPS/productID.286866600 Check to see if a BestBuy near you has it, the random Florida cities I typed in all came back as unavailable, I'm not sure if they got any yet as it was just released. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/surface-pro-2-with-256 gb/2148006.p;jsessionid=7D9BF95B092B23FD3B1BCFFEE186CAF7.bbols p-app01-102?id=1219070148391&skuId=2148006&st=surf ace%20pro%202&cp=1&lp=3#tab=reviews |

I went to Bestbuy and they had one on display. None in stock and it couldn't be ordered online. I might just order it from Microsoft online. I think the nearest MS store is Orlando. That's about 3 hrs. |

I first went to BestBuy. This product is new for the folks there so they weren't too helpful. The I went to the local Microsoft store. If that is an option for you, buy there. Good package deal and knowledgeable help in the store. |

I have a Lenovo Twist and it is OK. I hate windows 8 when it is in laptop mode, but love it when it is in tablet mode. I also have a Lenovo ThinkPad. I can't find anything to do with it except play games and use it for a jukebox machine when I am outside working... I still love my Asus 17" gaming laptop though. My most used machine. Windows 7. |
