So ObamaDontCare gives states an option on doing part of this themselves, or letting the feds do it. That's the way it was written; By the Democrats. Now you blame states for having an option? Why was that option put in there? Shame on the Democrats and pResident POS for allowing this option.
The Purpose of the ACA is to bring about "single payer" aka "socialized medicine" aka "tax paid health insurance".
All this hoo ha is to make it unprofitable or illegal for Insurance Companies to sell health insurance. Unless, of course, they "Donated" to the Obama Campaign, like AARP and plan to make a bIllion$ off you.
It also adds what may turn out to be over a million new jobs in Federal Service, and since thise jobs average more than Private sector jobs will require the taxes of about 8-15 million people to pay. ( the uncertainty depends on benefits, and how the Feds jigger the books to look less expensive ) Since the current taxes taken from working Americans is over a Trillion$ short of the spending, that means borrowing more. ( over a million New Federal workers as of 2 years ago + 90 million Semi-permanent Unemployed. ( not counted as such since they no longer get Unemployment. Once no longer required to go to the State Labor dept. ( a requirement for Unemployment ) they no longer count. In more ways than one. )
In other words, it's a mess. It's supposed to be a mess. There are a few really good ideas in there, but most of them won't actually work, not because they are bad ideas, but because it's bad law with a lot of corruption.
Good ideas that are theoretically in Obamacare include.
You can not be denied insurance for existing conditions. Good idea. It should be the law. ( why don't the R idiots make it one? )
While some liken this to buying house insurance after the house is on fire, that's pretty bogus. By the time you are half a century old, you have some kind of pre-existing condition, and many conditions are pre existing in latency or potential like Breast cancer, Parkinson's disease, etc. ( a "condition" may be genetic, exposure to various chemicals, etc. and be "pre-existing" but you're not sick. Until you are. ) Are we going to tell Angelina Jolie and all those with her and her late Mother's "prone to breast cancer" gene that they should just die off, improving the breed?
Yes, insurance rates will rise to cover that. Duh. The reason Obamacare mandates you buy insurance is to pay off the insurance companies for that clause. Seriously.
Another good idea from ACA is to insure those who can't afford it, and aren't on the other tax payer paid health plans. The rational solution is to expand Medicare and get rid of Medicaid an all the other programs, except, arguable, VA.
Instead the ACA will ( and IS, Right Now ) increase the numbers not insured, and cost us more in closed emergency rooms, taxes, death and suffering.
I'm not a fan of Tax paid health care. The partial socialization now in effect has hugely increased the cost of healthcare, and further socialization will only make it worse. See higher education. FULL socialization is the desire of many, and they insist that going all the way will make it all work, while this half way idiocy will not. I think they are dreaming. But, unlike some, I could be wrong.
I'm sure there are a few other grand and moral ideas in the ACA.
I'm also sure that those ideas could have been made law, and us adapted to them 3 years ago if the R's had been smarter, and the President less dishonest.
Shame on OBAMA, REED and PELOSI for implementing this efed up law in the freaking first place. The ACA is all messed up...not for everyone... but definitely enough to put a hold on it for a year or two. It is a complete disgrace. Nobody wants people to NOT have healthcare you silly wankers. The Republicans and Tea party just want to implement it RESPONSIBLY.
You can not be denied insurance for existing conditions. Good idea. It should be the law. ( why don't the R idiots make it one? )
This is perhaps the best thing in ObamaDontCare. It's set up to fail as it is though. The right way to do it is, you can't be denied coverage for a preexisting condition as long as you had insurance prior to that condition. Saving all your insurance premiums until you actually get sick with a major illness, and ensuring that you can simply then get insurance because it now makes obvious economic sense for the insured, promotes the wrong behavior. This is especially true in a system that is completely dependent on getting young, healthy people to overpay for their coverage. Yes, it is a system designed to fail.
Washington state hasn't had an exclusion for pre-exist since 1996.... wanna care to guess what that did to the commercial market for the state ?.... EVERY Commercial insurance company that sold individual plans - dropped them. The ONLY companies that sell plans are from outside state entities that are EXEMPTED from Washington forced plan construction rules.
Aetna hasn't been in our state since 1996...just as they just did to California - they will DROP individual coverage
watch and learn wait and see it has ALL been done before .

"ObamaCare does’t (sic) create health insurance, it regulates the health insurance industry and helps to increase quality, affordability and availability of private insurance."
The law does no such thing. It makes insurance more expensive for most people, and will reduce the availability of insurance as insurance companies leave the market.
"ObamaCare doesn’t create a government-run healthcare system"
Who controls the medical advisory boards (the death panels)? They decide whether you get treatment. Oh yes, the government.
"No one has to use the marketplace. Anyone who likes there (sic) current insurance can keep it"
Unless your insurance is being dropped because of the soaring costs created by this abysmal law.
"ObamaCare Myth: My Employer Has to Cover Me"..."The employer mandate has been pushed back to 2015"
The site even contradicts itself. Your employer has to cover you. Just not yet, due to the unconstitutional waiving of law by the executive branch.
That's four examples, and I got those from the first three "myths" on only one of the pages. I do not feel the need to elucidate further.
Misspelled words, not able to discern between "there and their". Who wrote this? Better yet, who approved it for publication on a government web site? Par for the course, I suppose. The entire ObamaCare fiasco appears to have been concocted by fourth graders. Malicious ones at that.
Hey Cityxslicker, I have a question you are likely to know the answer to. When looking at "income" to determine the tax credit you are eligible for under ObamaDontCare, how are long term and short term capital gains viewed. I'm kind of assuming it's all considered income under this plan. I'm also assuming that gains on IRA/Roth IRA retirement funds would not be considered income. Hoping you can give me the "quick" answer on this.
So you can completely bypass healthcare.gov and go straight to the BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois site and shop plans and estimate any tax credits under ObamaDontCare. I have to admit to sticker shock, even though I was shopping insurance plans about 4 months ago. BCBS plans have gone up A LOT! I stopped the shopping back then because we got back into an employer's group plan, which will be coming to and end.
So, we've been on the fence with where we are going in life lately. A few weeks ago we made the decision to both just be working part time in jobs that give us the summer's off. It was a scary decision with ObamaDontCare coming at us, but we had some unrelated deadlines pushing the decision before we would know what ObamaDontCare would mean to out insurance costs, which is one of the biggest unknowns. So it looks like the benefits for us would be about $450 a month. I have to say, that works out very well for us. I'd like to thank they young folks who are helping to fund my early semi-retirement. That's just awesome of you guys! You guys are going to enroll to help me out, aren't you? I sure hope so.
So is all of this a good thing? I suspected before, that it might work out well for my personal situation. I'm getting a sizable incentive to work less. Is that what they had in mind? I don't think so given that they denied the predictions of this from the right that this would happen. Will this be the same incentive that people living on other government subsidies will experience. I think so.
BTW, I tried loging in to the healthcare.gov site again. This is the page where there should be text boxes to enter my ID and password...
Tried with Internet Explorer and it logged in just fine. I guess Firefox users may not be insurable. I consider that a fail.
So with IE I went to shop for insurance and it wanted me to enter some personal information into text boxes. I clicked a text box so I could enter information and it bounced me back to a login screen. I tried loging in again and...
I'm curious if you were able to go to the Illinois Market place?
I tried getting in on FireFox again and was able to finally login. Going to shop for insurance, it popped up an error then back to the home screen, no longer logged in.
EDIT: Same error message that I posted earlier with IE, except it redirects to the home page pretty quickly.
While I was logged in, I did manage to go to my profile page. They REQUIRE information that wasn't required to make the account. They didn't require SS# so I left that blank. I had my correct legal name. I decided to give a bogus street address, but correct city and zip. I got a message stating that they couldn't verify my information, please list it as it is on legal documents, such as your SS card. That tells me that they are almost certainly cross-referencing your profile to the SS database. I don't have much of a problem with that when you actually go to get benefits, but when you are simply shopping for insurance? That's getting too intrusive.
Sorry to hear that pResident POS lied to you about being able to keep your insurance.
I forget what company said that they sure didn't want to be the first company to drop employees insurance because of this, but that they would probably be the second. I think the flood gates are opening up.
$500 million doesn't buy much in the way of a working website, if that website is HealthCare.gov. Our latest piece at Grassroot Journal examines the fact that the Obama Administration built its online presence for the 2012 campaign with $11.3 million, handling 10,000 hits per second on its websites, only to waste $500 million on a HealthCare.gov site designed to provide you insurance you don't want at a cost you can't afford. Read here.
To give you an idea of how absurd that total is, $500 million is more than:
-Facebook used in its first six years of existence -More than LinkedIn and Spotify have burned through in their entire existences COMBINED -More than Twitter used from 2006-2011.
Actually, I've read the cost of 0bamaDontCare(AndDontWork).gov is more like $650,000,000.
To be fair, I've heard that the $6xx million figure that was part of the article that I posted earlier was supposedly not correct. I haven't heard a "corrected" figure though. Given the poor start, and the huge amount of overtime pay that they must be paying out trying to just get the login screen to work, it's a safe bet that it's going to be waaaaaay over budget.
I have gotten loged in a few times now. I've even gotten to a screen similar to the one Froggy posted to demonstrate how well things are working.
The problem is that every single time I click on the shop for coverage link, I get bounced back to the login page. It does display static informational pages just fine. Of course that part could be put together by a small team in a matter of days. They've had years to prepare for this release. I see no valid excuse for the dismal failure we are seeing unfold. This is big government at work.
I see no valid excuse for the dismal failure we are seeing unfold.
What if it isn't supposed to work?
Put another way: What if all the damage being done to our country by 0bama is deliberate? The stuff that Nixon and Clinton got formally "punished" for during their presidencies pales in comparison to the crap our Dictator-in-Chief has pulled (and continues to pull).
What's his end game, and...will he get away with it?
2015 Financial Time Bomb In State Healthcare Exchanges By William A. Jacobson Friday, October 11, 2013
One thing you have to remember about Obamacare is that much of the financial pain, such as steep penalties, is back-ended so that by the time people wake up to reality, the law has been operating for years and it’s too late.
Here’s yet another example: The subsidies for state exchanges disappear in 2015, and that’s going to bust state budgets.
