Is that just a DOT certification issue? this has probably been addressed on badweb before, but the search engine currently isn't working for me.   Slaughter Posted on Sunday, October 06, 2013 - 01:42 pm:        Wheels DO need DOT test and approval - same as slicks. Can't just cut grooves in slicks and run them on the street. That being said, I know LOTS of guys/gals running composite, forged, cast racing wheels without DOT approval. Basically, you're pretty safe to assume that if you're pulled over, you're not going to have an inspection that'll catch non-DOT stamped wheels. (now I'll have to go look at my streetbikes to see if they even HAVE DOT marks)   Akbuell Posted on Sunday, October 06, 2013 - 03:45 pm:        DOT certification is certainly one issue. I seem to remember an article/discussion somewhere talking about one problem with magnesium wheels. They may not be as 'durable' as other wheels, being more susceptible to damage and breaking when hitting sharp edged bumps. As often as racing bits get inspected, not a problem. On the track, it's unlikely you'll hit a pothole or any other similar problem, on the street, oh yeah. Best of both worlds, and dot legal.
