Having incurred over $50,000 in medical bills over the past month . . this is something I've watched closely. Sure enough . . . just past the stroke of midnight last I got e-mails from both my employers citing the provision of the ACA as they paved the road for some coming changes. I'm old and won't see the worst of this. But my heart goes out to my grandchildren and those us you under 50 who have failed to keep this from reaching this point. You're seriously screwed and can expect a major portion of your life, finances and focus to become getting and keeping healthcare. I have a hard time, as those 16,000 IRS agents prepare to be deployed imagining the government running the "federal medical system". I'll share the advise I've given my children. "Get rich and put yourself in a position to fend for yourself". Yeah . . it's a sore subject. |

My company, Broadcom, has not announced any health care changes....yet. I am not holding my breath because I expect it to be yanked BECAUSE of ACA. Qualcomm has changes coming because the evil, "rich" engineers have a "Cadillac plan". The ACA makes me so angry that maybe it is better for this stinking Federal Government to be shut down and dismantled to a manageable level. Obama is a pathological liar and his fellow gangsters like Reid, Pelosi, Durban, Schumer, et al should be jailed for their transgressions against the American People. Yeah..it's a sore subject....and getting sorer. |

Wait a minute! These bastards have had THREE years and virtually INFINITE money to get this correct. It was known in advance what the traffic model was going to be and nothing was done. Do you think Amazon or Itunes would have let this happen? This is just the beginning before they start denying you for an aspirin. Do YOU really want to submit your sensitive information to the Exchange? If you do, then there is an extremely high likelihood that you will be subject to identity theft as many of the systems have not been tested. Vote these idiots out of office before it is too late.

Give an American company a $300K tax break, and you guys cheer & whoop. Save an American company $300K in insurance premiums, and you guys scream bloody murder. The difference? Mere partisan cheerleading. Court's advice, though bluntly stated, is well-founded and timeless. Live beneath your means. Don't assume the decisions you made 10 years ago will serve you for the next 10 years. Stay informed. Adapt or die. |

Kowski, we are not talking about tax breaks please stay on subject the issue is the new health care law and its effects on us as individuals. all I see from the "touted" bill is that my insurance costs more and I get less service Washington types seem to think that this is serving my best interests please explain how ... |

The ACA was voted into law without a single Republican vote. It was born a partisan issue because it was forced through with absolutely zero compromise or consensus. Just because it is a partisan issue doesn't mean there aren't facts and problems. |

>>>Didn't there use to be a motorcycle forum on here? There was and is. Fact is, neigh on 8 years ago, we discovered that folks who were passionate about motorcycles had an elevated propensity to be passionate about other things. These include, but are not limited to, flying, Scuba, shooting sports, fishing, sports, religion, politics, travel, dogs and family. We were in a quandary. One year I had Badwebbers from around the world to the house for Xmas . . . from 4 countries and found that without exception they were not only passionate but smart and well versed. We, as a forum, wanted to tap into that and not limit ourselves to one slice of the big pie of life. But . . how to do it without tainting what has evolved to be perhaps the oldest and most successful motorcycle online community. The "Quick Board" was born. Essentially and online lunch room where we can discuss, argue, share and challenge about anything. Like television . . . Badweb has many channels. I, as an example have never seen a "Real Housewives . . ", "American Idol", "Survivor" or any of that reality crap. I have nothing against it, just zero interest. So . . . I simply tune in those channels I want. You may do the very same thing here on Badweb. Go to the topics page and your'll find not only a plethora of general motorcycle topics but areas devoted to specific model eras and time era in Buell history. Many here own may types of bikes. I once had 5 different brands of bikes in the garage, Erik Buell has at least 3 brands in his garage. Few are passionate about Buells and indifferent about their Triumph or Ducati. Badweb has it all. If this healthcare topic doesn't interest you, look about, find one that piques your interest and dive right you. You'll be welcome. The healthcare debacle is huge, at present, and a natural topic of discussion among knowledge and passionate folks. Precisely the very reason that the QUCIK BOARD was born. Court P.S. - I am here little but also check on the "Barn Buells" . . particularly since my neighbor and friend seems to have acquired the worlds largest collection of "old" (that term hurts more lately) Buells. Check it out. |

I haven't been able to confirm this, but wow what an eye opener. From a dubious site no doubt, but like when the enquirer broke the John Edwards story, that doesn't necessarily make it untrue. http://www.infowars.com/obamacare-fines-to-be-seiz ed-from-bank-accounts/ Forget the alarming headline about siezing from bank accounts... instead look at the math for the costs of the "free" coverage. Dang! And do I also understand the law correctly... that if you *don't* buy a plan and you *do* pay the fine, that is just a fine, and you *still* have to pay for your uncovered medical expenses? If all that above is accurate, dang! It sounds like a bad parody of what a radical liberal would come up with as something they would think a Repbulican would push for... it doesn't seem possible. I'm eager to see the real facts... dang. |

Boy, I sure killed this thread. I found the place where I got the information that lead me to believe that if you don't buy the mandatory minimum insurance and instead elect to pay the fine, you still have to pay out of pocket for medical care. From: http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/DC-Decoder/2013/1001/ Obamacare-101-What-to-know-if-you-opt-out-of-buyin g-health-insurance Christian Science Monitor... that's a pretty credible news source, and if anything is left leaning. From the middle of their article:
quote:Why is there a penalty? The penalty is meant to offset the costs of urgent medical care for individuals who do not have health insurance, according to Healthcare.gov. The website also warns that people without health coverage will have to pay the entire costs of all their medical care.
Dang. What the hell were the Democrats thinking of? Before ACA: Many people who can't afford health care are taking huge risks by not buying health insurance they simply can't afford. After ACA: Many people who can't afford health care are taking huge risks by not buying health insurance they simply can't afford. And they pay a fine. What next? Take people who can't afford health insurance and slap them around too? What is the fine supposed to accomplish? This is a disaster... (Message edited by reepicheep on October 02, 2013) |

What is the fine supposed to accomplish? Mrs. 0 needs more shoes? I imagine the Founders are chagrined that learn their hard-won, brilliantly-crafted system of self-government has devolved to the point where the Fed Gov can MANDATE that you buy a product, and fine you and place a lien on your home if you don't. And SOMEHOW, there are folks who think everything is hunky-dory and 0bamadontcare is "worth a shot." Bullshit. Thomas Jefferson studied his history, and knew - in spite of the Constitution and Bill of Rights - that tyrants would eventually rule this land again. Which is why he said:
quote:[W]hat country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms...The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it's natural manure.
I suspect the tree of liberty will soon be refreshed. |

I haven't been able to confirm this, but wow what an eye opener. I can confirm part of that, and it was true long before ObamaDontCare. The IRS has the authority to seize your home to recover money owed to them. Even your mortgage company gets pushed to the back of the line behind the IRS when they do this. It's one thing to seize property from someone that owes the money, but seizing the property that is still owned by the mortgage company, who has NOTHING to do with your dealings with the IRS, is just plain theft. Now they have one more way to accomplish this theft. |

Welcome back Court ! This bill has ALWAYS been about taxes and power - and not a damn thing else. The IRS didn't like only getting half of your estate when you died - so the bill is set up - that if you do not have an executor / power of attorney - the FED is the default assignee to your assets - and even IF there is an assignee declared - the outstanding bill of 'care' will be applied to your estate as a tax and levy ; and then they will tax the remainder Watch and learn Wait and see It has NOTHING to do with health. In EXACTLY the same way that Lenin's 1908 Land Reform - had NOTHING to do with granting peasant land ownership getting it in early and often lately I TOLD YOU SO . PS - watch EMTALA fall soon. |

If so, what kind of deal did you get? And what confidence do you have that the deal you "got" is legitimate? It's been known for weeks now that the software wasn't giving accurate quotes in many cases. I heard last night that they were saying it's no big deal because they have months to get this fixed before the 2014 deadline. Of course these months were intended to allow for the huge number of people to get through the system. This train wreck has just started. It will be wrecking for months to come, most likely decades to come. |

Who in their right mind would want the government having control and decision making power over their health care. I don't care if it came with free massages and happy endings. The fact that it doesn't apply to Congress and their staff is ALL I NEED TO KNOW about it. |

I do not know if any of you have been to the doctor lately and been treated to the new federally mandated "sexual questions". The feds have no qualms about asking, and making part of your permanent record, crap you would not have shared with a buddy over a beer in a bar 10 years ago. It's only a matter of time, a very short time, until this becomes part of your "person print" which will be a compendium of your social media preference (like the several employers and schools requiring access to your Facebook account prior to hiring/admission) and will, in short order, be available to about anyone as LinkedIn, Facebook, AOL, Google and others (apparently including the feds) share and meld this information to form your "person print", I've had some fun, having spent the last 20+ years on the internet, using various names to register and it's quite entertaining to see the unique misspelled names I've created on junk mail arriving at the house. . . . each one letting me know where original name came from. Most these questions, to mu conservative midwest mind, were not only not germane . . they were, citing the old vernacular, none of anybody else's damn business. What people . . . in their quest to get a free cellphone or 3 years "unemployacation" . . . have allowed this government to become is both alarming and embarrassing. There is a new class silently evolving who know how to circumvent this. Be in or be a victim. |

My primary employer is one of the larger companies in America . . . . so some of this may take a bit of time to trickle down. But before the questions about style, frequency, gender and about 3 other questions about sex . . . I'd already been called by our carrier (CIGNA) to get my current weight, smoking habits, alcohol and drug use, BMI and any formal nutrition or exercise regimens. Given the present trajectory . . . . someone you pay taxes to knows, at any moment in time, where you are, what you are doing and your current "self imposed" risks you bring, voluntarily, to the system. I'm not paranoid. In fact, given my present condition, I could care less. But the erosion of freedoms is something I, even a couple of years ago, could not have possibly imagined. We are, at this point, not a very ominous threat to the Chinese or the Russians. The world is headed toward Super Power Parity. By the time my Granddaughter hits kindergarten Iran will have the capability of vaporizing LA if they get a hankerin' to. It'd be a great time to dispatch rank amateur politicians who didn't have the balls to vote during the short time they were elected and relied on race and social situation to get into Ivy League schools to smoke dope, skip classes and flunk . . fully aware that no one could put the "F" on their grades. Like the Hero Veterans visiting Washington . . . . we deserve better. |
