It's been a long time since I've done a long ride, always telling myself I'm too busy, too much to do etc etc. It's a long weekend and I've actually taken an extra day off work, I've spent the last few nights changing fork seals, steering head bearings and brake pads and now it's just me and the X1 for the next four days. It's time to ride Anyone else planning adventures this weekend? |

I'm taking my dad's remains to his final resting place on his Harley Friday and Saturday. It's around a 500 mile round trip. Then I may take my Suzuki up to Niagara Falls Sunday to get another stamp on my passport before I turn 30 in a few weeks. I'd like to take his Harley to Niagara Falls, since the family is selling it... but I'm not sure how that would work with crossing the border. I'd like to keep it since I worked on it, paid for a portion of it and all that, but the family vetoed it and are selling it. |

I'm riding to Las Vegas next week. You're welcome to come along. Actually I'm just riding along with my son while he goes to a wedding. I'm planning on playing in SW Utah & NW Arizona for a few days. |

Chili, enjoy the ride. Thumper, can you not just pay the family their share & keep the bike yourself? Or have things gone "political" ? I've seen similar situations where "Dad's bike" has to be removed from sight to soothe the ruffled feathers of other bereaved family members. Best of luck. Mike enjoy your ride too & say hi to Drew for me. Oh & stay clear of those English Muffins. |

Wzzzuuup, Graham! I've got the same itch- this R/75 seems to be calling me to do a day or three in the saddle, at least down to Suches REAL soon. My Sundays and Mondays off regularly are a great thing- lately the honeydo list has taken precedent. Tomorrow the grass will be cut, weather will be changing this Sun/Mon. After that, I expect our fall foliage colors will be coming out! Mebbe 10/13 and 14 will be my days...

Graham it is good to hear that you are actually gonna get out for ride for the weekend! Nice plan. I think I forgot how to do that lately. I'm rebuilding the rear trailing arms in my Vette this weekend for an upcoming show and fifty mile back road tour. These Tennessee back roads are great fun in the Vette.....along with another 100 or so of my Corvette buddies all in a line starting with a police escort. I can tell you, there are many facets of Corvette ownership that parallel the Buell/BadWeB experience.....except for the long term friendships like those that have been made here. I doubt more that a few of them would invite another to spend a night or two at their home, or loan them tools and parts, let alone buy them a gallon of gas if they happen to run out. Although they are fun cordial people, with them it seems that it is ALL about the cars. |

WOW! Remind me again why I moved from southeast Alaska to North Carolina. Should I mention that it is 73deg and sunny? Probably not. Do miss (a little) storms like that. |

300 miles today. A few in a torrential downpour. 1.5 hours sat a few hundred feet behind a fatal accident. |

I think I've done about 500 miles yesterday and today Yesterday, once I got out of Brisbane, was backroads, a little bit of dirt roads, cattle, some hawks and Skippy. Today was twisties, rainforest, onto the tablelands and more cattle. Saw an eagle which was really cool, he was massive. A lot of the roads are in really poor condition, I started thinking I need something like a G/S or Uly, but I think now my shock needs a service, it seems to get much worse after about half an hour of rough road. The Penske has about 20,000 on it I guess. I've been taking my time, stopping a lot and taking lots of pics, I'll post 'em when I get home |

I hope the trip all went ok Thumper, despite the accident and the rain. I think I forgot how to do that lately. That's definitely been a problem for me, caught up in work and fixing stuff and mountain bikes, but I made up for it! this R/75 seems to be calling me to do a day or three in the saddle - Do it! This was my original plan, I cut about 50 or so km out of it, around 1700 all up:
A few pics from day 1... Motorcycle friendly pub:
Clarence River:
I did a little dirt, some of the dirt roads were better than the bitumen! Skippy fortunately hopped off to the right instead of hopping in front me, but I wasn't quick enough to get the camera out when I stopped.

Day 2... I stayed in Grafton overnight, it was the weekend for the big "Bridge to Bridge" ski-boat race...
...but I didn't stick around and kept riding. One of the highlights of the ride was The Gwydir Highway as it goes through Gibraltar Range National Park. Reasonably good surface, great twisties in the middle, almost no traffic, and spectacular semi-rainforest scenery.
I'm in the country now, keep an eye out for cattle...
I'm definitely in the country with a store like this:
A Lightning on Thunderbolts Way. This road was one of my aims, I'd heard so much about it but I was disappointed the road was in such bad shape for the twisty section, the X1 was not handling the rough sections very well.
These guys on singles were having a ball though:
