Some of you knew the man or knew OF the man. Van Nuys HD, Bartels, Antelope Valley HD. Good friend, THIRD generation motorcycle racer (he showed us pics of his relatives on board track racers in 1913 and 1917). Earl wrenched for Higbee, E Boz, B Boz, Yates, Zemke, Hendley, Ecklund during the 883 series at Bartels. LONG before that, he'd had a LOT of young guns racing for him flat-tracking. Today we will gather in his honor and memory. The man has amazing stories to tell. Now those stories have to be told through his friends. Services start today at 3PM. I can't hide from the Eulogy that I'll WANT to stand and deliver. Where do you start to describe all that you'd learned about life from a man who'd "been there, done that and got the T-Shirt?" (lots of T-shirts in fact) How do you honor a man who helped you get ready and first would insist on preparing to race to win - and then would never ask questions from a MECHANIC'S point of view - he'd ask as a friend, as a Father - his first question as my helmet would come off: "Did you have fun?" He knew my priorities better than I did myself. I don't think it was an accident that he chose to die with Sunny and me at his bedside. It's complicated emotionally but Sunny in effect TOLD me that he may have waited until his Son and Daughter-in-law had stepped out to lift his head one last time - look at us and no longer struggle for breath. It's going to be a day of tears, a day of laughter but it'll be a day among friends. |

Steve, that is tough. You must feel honored to have him be so close to you that he felt OK to go home in your presence. Thanks for sharing. Brad |

Lost a great friend like that about a year ago, Ed Nabors... don't deny the loss, but embrace the greatness of his life and character. Godspeed to your friend Earl... pegs down on the R75. |
