What do any of you know of the plastic manifolds used on these engines are the seals to the engine known to be a problem It wasnt the intake manifold that was the problem, it was the o ring gaskets that are the issue. Ford redesigned them, but if you havnt had an issue with that i wouldnt worry abou it. If you had a large vacume leak it would throw either a left bank lean or right bank lean, or possibly both code, and eventually wouldnt idle sitting in traffic. It does sound like a bad check valve as an actual leak will throw problem codes on these engines.} |

The 10/4/00 diagram (top) is on the front wall of the engine compartment. I can't find a check valve, I tried the advance parts house down the street from work. any one know a part num for a small cheap vacuum check valve 1/8" size |

Napa has check valves but they come in 3/16" and 1/4". I dont think they make them with a 1/8" nipple |

I put the check valve in last night and no Joy still does it, Vern I have pulled the dash open to access the valve that operates the doors the hoses look ok, I need to get some testing tools then get back to it the small grey hose does not get vacuum on it when operating the hvac, I bet I have a door not moving some where, or a valve or some thing not working, off to AZ for a vacuum test kit, @#$@#% I had one and lost the bits, |

I got a new test kit for vacuum, the "white line" does not hold vacuum. found another problem. there are some large rubber "biscuits" under the truck they are crumbling, how do I get new ones in as the body will soon be unsupported.... |

I found the source of an odd noise on my Ford Ranger yesterday. Mine has 125K miles and has been a very reliable vehicle so far. I plan to have a shop replace the broken link and the opposite side, if they suggest replacing the big biscuits I'll do it.

If you apply vacuum to the line going into the cab, and it bleeds down quickly, it will most likely be one of the vacuum diaphragms or the switch assembly. It could also be a deteriorated fitting on one of the hoses. most of the diaphragms are accessible from under the dash if you put yourself in an uncomfortable position so you can test them individually. another thing you can try is taking the hose from your vacuum tester and holding one end up to your ear while you use the other end to listen for the leak. listening through the tube will amplify the sound making it easier to pinpoint. For the body mounts, they are each held in place by a single bolt running through the middle of the mount. loosen all the body mount bolts, remove the bolt from one then lift the body enough to remove it and slide the new one into place. start the bolt for that mount(do not tighten it yet) and move on to the next mount. By having all the mounts loose it makes it easier to lift the body, and shift things around to get them aligned on reassembly. |

well the un connected grey line got tested this AM there is the vacuum leak as a test I taped it up and the doors stay put, next I have done some research on the body mounts, they work great but self destruct, this appears to be a common problem. I am going to visit mom her car guy is reputable I am going to ask him to quote it. as I don't feel comfortable messing with the body I do not have enough hydraulic jacks with the lift needed to pick up the body I still can't locate where that grey line goes @#$%@#$%$# ! stay tuned. |

Is the grey line in the engine compartment, or the passenger compartment? If it is under the hood it probably goes to the heater control valve in one of the heater hoses. |

yes the line is in the engine compartment, but the line is under vacuum while the on the heater hoses that feed the "coil" are right on top there is what looks like a tee in one and a hose that branches off ( to the drivers side ) |

One of the heater hoses should have an inline valve with a vacuum diaphragm on it. |
