KTVU News, in a failure of MAJOR proportions reports the "names" of the flight crew. Obviously they check their stories as thoroughly as anybody else "reporting" stuff on the net.
Supposedly the "names" were released by NTSB and the NTSB when reached for comment, told they NEVER release any names - that's the jurisdiciton of the local authorities.
...its not racism.....makin' a funny...yes...like Whobitcha Cockoff.....One Hung Lo.......Willie Makeit...Betty Wont(those two collaborated and wrote "50 Yard Dash To The Outhouse") ...Seymour Butts(he wrote"Under The Grand Stands")..so many more and not racist at all.....
KTVU is one of the most un-biased and sober media outlets around. If you're from the Bay Area you tune in to hear the news. The other local stations are absurd Anchorman fodder. It's too bad that KTVU got bamboozled like this, but it makes me think it was a breaking story where the anchors had no time to really look at the names before rattling them off. "" pronounced as "Fook" was well played.
To make a joke out of this tragedy shows a flagrant disregard for the need to be quiet in the face of suffering. Some fool thinks racism after the deaths of two kids is OK. And on the level it was delivered, the guilty should do time. And have there asses kicked.
To make a joke out of this tragedy shows a flagrant disregard for the, feelings of the effected, I agree, But I am having a hard time with the racisim call, will you please explain your view I honestly don't understand.
I bet the perp is looking for a job now,
On the serious side, only 3 dead in that incident, some laughter and thanks for the miracle that more were not killed seems to be in order. }
OAKLAND, Calif. — On Friday evening, KTVU Channel 2 issued the following on-air apology. On Friday, July 12, during the KTVU Channel 2 Noon newscast, we misidentified the pilots in the Asiana Airlines crash. We made several mistakes when we received this information. First, we never read the names out loud, phonetically sounding them out. Then, during our phone call to the NTSB where the person confirmed the spellings of the names, we never asked that person to give us their position with the agency. We heard this person verify the information without questioning who they were and then rushed the names on our noon newscast. Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, the NTSB issued the following statement: The National Transportation Safety Board apologizes for inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed as those of the pilots. A summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft. We work hard to ensure that only appropriate factual information regarding an investigation is released and deeply regret today's incident. Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such a serious error is not repeated.
That's a cracker, more fool the tv people for not picking it up.
Humour is everywhere, in all situations, yes the accident was a tragedy & fortunately the casualties weren't worse, but we can't all go around wearing sackcloth & ashes every time something bad happens somewhere.
As for seeing it as racist, for f***s sake grow up! people have been taking the mickey & laughing about names since forever, why is this racist? Do you think that the Chinese don't laugh at us when something in English sounds funny in their language?
I'm getting so tired of being told that I can't do or say this or that because this or that group might find it offensive, & most of the time it's not even the members of such a group who are saying it's wrong.
Offended? Maybe. I think they are trying to pre-fill the coffers for the pending lawsuits.
Oh and it was real. The SO and I watched in shock as the names were read and she hit the info button to verify we were still on KTVU and not Comedy Central.
As far as funny, yes it was funny that the station was duped and in private or amongst friends it is funny. It was shocking to see it live as friends and family members of those involved must have been watching.
