That first ride with the camera on your helmet was so tantalising, you can hear the motor but those gorgeous pipes only when you turned your head to look back & down. Now, thanks to you, I spend time checking the small-ads & ebay for a cheap stroker. If my wife ever catches you, you're in BIG trouble. |

Yeah- I've been watching CL too, someone has an old '86 DS80 for cheep around here- I've always wanted to build one of those for some sheeeeenanigans! Top it off, another guy has a MINT RZ350 just like what I had, but he KNOWS what it's worth, I aint got that kind of moolah. Just listening to that vid got my blood boiling! Dammit man! One thing though: I watched most (not all) of the vid, and somehow it looked like the front wheel NEVER LEFT THE GROUND!!!! Knowing the "hit" you'll get when that thing gets on the pipe, it seems inevitable that you'll be unicycling it! |

I was going easy on the first ride because I didn't want a flaw in my work to manifest itself with a jammed chain and me going over the bars. I'm also concerned about the driveline since kush sprockets is either reinventing their website or out of business. That was my plan for most of the build to get one of their sprockets. Now I think I need to find a rear wheel from a KTM duke. They are a 4.5 inch wheel that looks like the marchesini from the side AND they have a cush drive. Or I need to figure out how to put a slipper clutch from a Yamaha four stroke in this thing. I just dont't want to snap chains and break transmission gears all the time. |

I know, I know- gotta go easy for a while, "break-in" involves the WHOLE machine, especially with a severe custom build like that. I had talked once with my friends at Dual Sport Touring about having my old Goldwing's center hub re-machined, they recommended a local guy who specializes in such things... there could be a way to custom-fabricate what you need, dunno about the $$$ though. This guy seemed to be able to do about anything, soup to nuts, when it comes to wheels. You might give them a call anyway, they're SUPER good folks to know in the MC biz, good buds of mine. www.dualsporttouring.com Megan or Francois will answer: 865-995-9505. |

Plus, being uber-gearheads, they'd LOVE to learn up on your build... Francois once made a track-bike out of a wadded PC800 (!!!). There was almost no way to know what it was originally! Give 'em a holler, tell 'em I told ya to. |

When you say PC, I read that as Pacific Coast. No way! That's too cool! I love people doing weird shit like that. My brother and I keep discussing getting a cab over engine Toyota van, then build a custom tube chassis for it with a mid engine Subaru boxer engine and rear drive. Just to take to track days and pass corvettes. The humor would be lost on most but we laugh about the idea all the time. As for the rear wheel, the Banshee guys are adamant I just run the piss out of it. The two Yamaha guys at my local shop are split on it, one says sell the wheels and get spoked wheels with a cush (no effing way bro!), the other thinks the tranny will be fine and also says to run the piss out of it. I'm trying to determine how similar yamaha clutches are across the spectrum because I think installing a slipper clutch from a R6 or YZ450 application would be too cool and help remove some back torque from hitting the tranny too hard. |

An old friend of mine used to build drag race Banshee motors. (maxed out big bore with nitrous) The major problem he had was seizing the 1st and second gears on the shafts. Use Amsoil in the gear box and you should be good to go. |

Yeppers, PC as in Pacific Coast! The only real clue as to what it is was the gas filler door, total Mad Max looking mutant otherwise. My weird shiznit dream: Find a Yugo, better yet a convertible (Yes, they made some!), pull the body and build a drivetrain and chassis around a hotted Mazda rotary! All I need is $$$, right? |

Oh no stop stop stop, now not only am I getting itchy for a stroker, I've got a yen for another street sleeper too. Last sleeper was a rwd Mazda 323 with a 3.5l Rover V8, it was virtually undriveable in the wet. |

I have seen the future and it looks like this! http://www.imsproducts.com/Products/index.cfm?Manu facturerSet=Yamaha&maD=true&ModelSet=WR250X&modD=t rue&yeD=true&siD=true&TypeSet=Fuel%20Tank&SeriesSe t=&sed=true&tyd=true&YearsSet=08-11&SizeSet=3.0%20 gal or maybe even this http://www.imsproducts.com/Products/index.cfm?Manu facturerSet=Yamaha&maD=true&ModelSet=WR250X&modD=t rue&yeD=true&siD=true&TypeSet=Fuel%20Tank&SeriesSe t=&sed=true&tyd=true&YearsSet=08-11&SizeSet=4.7%20 gal So uh, Holy crap! My mileage is worse than I thought the worst case would be. A lot worse! Oh well, it's stupid fun to ride! I fixed two little leaks I had in the cooling system and I blocked off one of the Pingel outlets and put a T on the other. I got some jetting done. I leaned the air screw a bit and that helped off idle but was still too far out so I switched to a smaller pilot. I didn't get a chance to ride it after so we shall see how the bike runs with the other pilot tomorrow. Way rich around 6,000 rpms then it clears itself out and feels great from about 7,000 rpms and up. It has a great pull and the classic shriek. I'll keep working on the jetting tomorrow. I'm confident than proper jetting the whole way through the range isn't far off and when done, this bike will really run great. I will also need to put a battery tender on the bike overnight until I can spring for a higher output stator. Sadly, as predicted by many, the stock output just isn't enough. Also, I dream of a rotary powered Miata track car. I like a screaming engine. Can you tell? |

True story, which informs my dreams... A few years back I was cruising around Chilhowee Lake on the approach to the Dragon, about 10-15 over the limit, on my old CityX... every now and then I'd pass a slower car to ensure a good run through. Came up on a last-gen RX-7 twin turbo, rolling kinda slow... passed it and noticed the rear tires were not stock. I was halfway to the overlook, kept hearing this wwhhhooossh! just as I finished a corner, quickening! That dang Mazda had a LOT of meat on the road, and made use of it... I'd bet a dollar that some fun tuning got into that ride! I just watched a while after he passed me... ` |

I liked the other true story about going back for parsley??? that you dropped on the way home from the grocery store. Those RX-7s are so pretty. There is a nice RX-8 in town that has a killer sound, and the guy drives it HARD! It just doesn't look good like the 7. |

Had a few Mazda's over the years & by far one of the most beautiful cars I ever owned was a mid '70s 929 Coupé, same pillarless bodyshell as the Rx4 but with a 2.0 4banger. Wish I could find another, that would make a great rod with modern running gear. |

Getting some jetting work done. Sounds much better. I put some details on what I have done so far on the video about section on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN7aTmYdoIA&feature =youtu.be |
