Well who has one? What brand is it? I want a really nice set of cameras now. I recently got a beginner system. It is a zmodo 8 channel system that came with 4 cameras and the 1TB dvr and not enough wiring! The cameras are 450tvl 4mm no zoom but they do have decent IR at night. I bought a 5th camera with a 12mm lens and 650tvl and 330' IR night vision. I live next to a public laundry mat so security has been an issue. Currently i am trying to catch the little punks spray painting the laundry mat and the dumpster and the fence. Soon i will catch them i hope! The owner of the laundry mat put in an internal camera system and he let me install cameras around his\my perimeter as a whole. I have six views and 1 serious night-vision camera. So questions? 1. What cameras\systems are really good? 2. wireless or wired? 3. what kind of cable\connections i.e. RCA,BNC,CAT5,CAT6. 4. What adapters\BALUNS to use 5. how long is to long before you lose power and get interference 6. Use of PTZ cameras or fully user controlled units i.e. pan\tilt zoom. I find that this camera system is addicting!!! It was kind of a challenge to swing around in the trees and playing tarzan setting up the power\video for my system I like seeing what is going on outside without going outside! Now i am wanting a nice unit that can do all the good\awesome things.....Any input would be welcomed. I have seen a range $300.00-3000.00 |

I have a Samsung 4-ch system. Cameras are all 600tvl. I originally bought a swann 8-ch system (450tvl). I did a test run on the bench and thought it looked like complete crap and returned. I bought the Samsung unit online from a place that doubled the factory warranty, but I can't remember who right now. I did have the DVR take a dump about 5 months in. Sent it in and they replaced it with no problems. (mine was a refurbished unit which saved about $100 if I recall correctly) Cameras are pretty clear during the day, night time is so-so with the IR. I still can't get the app on my phone to work with viewing when i'm not on my homes wifi network though. But I don't know much about networking. |

I have a single indoor Foscam that works quite well. It has great resolution and works very well in low light or at night. Mine is set up wirelessly atm. They sell outdoor models models as well and they have a program that will let you monitor a bunch of cameras at once and record although I haven't tried that. I use my for live only. |

I've thought about setting up some trail cameras on the telephone pole and trees in my yard and aiming them at my house. seems a lot simpler than any home surveillance system. |

I was going to do a wireless system but i have seen to many reviews where they lose connection to the receiver\dvr unit and have to be rebooted to re-connect the cameras! That would be a deal breaker for me. I have to much money sitting around invested into my race trailer\shop to have cameras that just drop off! So i went wired and im glad i did. I did accidentally shoot a staple into one of the camera Siamese power cables and had to replace it 3 days later as it shorted out. But i am glad i have cameras watching and on record for 2 weeks at a time with my 1T hard drive! Then i just re-record in a loop. so far i have caught 2 people using the building as a toilet and 3 people smoking crack\marijuana\meth out in the back. People don't just grab all there stuff and run when cars pull into the lot! Only people doing things they are not supposed to be doing. And i have also caught the construction crew in my driveway blocking it for the 10th time! They have been blocking my driveway for over 2 years now. |
