Oh my!!!!! What a fantastic collection of pix. I'll never get tired of seeing the machines people can craft. Hat's off to you. If I won a million bucks i'd still be broke because i'd spend it all on these toys. |

I've long thought the Ducati 900 Superlight with the 1/4 fairing was one of the most beautiful bikes ever produced. I will build a Cobra replica at some point:

My former boss, Don Edmunds together with Bill Thomas hand-built the Cheetah:

Edmunds was a wizard at hand-forming aluminum bodies. Pic is of our USAC Champ Car. Body hand-formed by Edmunds and a truly gifted fabricator (forgot his true name, we called him "Lighthouse" This machine was truly the Offenhauser's last shot. We called it the "laydown" - it laid the Offy over on its side. Intake log on "top" and exhaust on "bottom" of the 2.6 liter Offy. USAC was struggling with rules and fuel restrictions after some disastrous crashes (notably Swede Savage) and when fuel restrictions hit hard, the Offy couldn't make the power on gas as it had on alcohol with no boost restrictions... <sigh> They tried with the Drake V8 but failed. End of the road for Offenhauser.

I remember reading about Edmonds in magazines when I was a kid. I grew up on dirt tracks in the North East. So we knew about the stuff you West coasters were doing. I do so wish I had pictures of the stuff we did back when. My photo albums and accolade type stuff were lost in a fire about fifteen years ago. Street stocks, modifieds, super lates, dirt sprint cars, asphalt lates, sprinters. We even drag raced when not on dirt. Not to mention years of racing dirt bikes and three wheelers. Heck I still had all of those old magazines. Damned if that did not feel like a "deleted-reformatted" situation. |

Steve I seem to remember that that Offy didn't have a serial # it just said "the last one" is that true. |

Yeah, I'm LOVING that one, oughta have the moniker "Buffaloed" or "Kettle Cooker", lol... saw a vintage RD on my trip to Nashville last weekend... got the 2smoke fever again! Oh well- good news is that I've got the ball rolling to trade titles and bikes, no cash, my '79 GL1000 for a '77 R75/7 with 23K miles... guess which one is "sexier"?
