Another excellent BBQ in NC is called Short Sugar's. Reidsville, NC...right across the border from Danville, VA (a pit of a town imo). It's right off US29 in downtown Reidsville. My mouth is watering just thinking about it and your new hangout...Dukes Thanks for the info Oldog |

One day i will ride to the south just to try the "real BBQ" i hear so much about. Brisket looks so dang good. Does anyone know of "real" BBQ in Alaska? And i mean REAL, like the stuff people fight over, the BBQ that generations have been perfecting, NOT the stuff that comes out of a bottle. Im tired of endless seafood (weird yea) and want something different. |

Two Seasons - "right across the border from Danville, VA (a pit of a town imo)." WHOA THERE BUDDY. You're only allowed to say that if you're from here. Otherwise, how 'bout cross the state line and voice that same opinion amongst us... We're proud people going through a tough time thanks to the rat bastards up north that sold our industries down the river. OTOH - Short Sugar's originated in Danville (as did the incomparable Biscuitville). The location here changed hands several times and is now shut down and for sale - its what happens when you serve dry BBQ and don't keep your dining room clean. Checkered Pig is the next best Q joint in Dantroit. If you want the GOOD stuff - hit Allen & Son's on hwy 86 in Chapel Hill. |

We've been to Short Sugars and have all of the Lexington BBQ places just down the road in, uh, Lexington. In town here, we have Prissy Pollys, which I like, and Clarks. Clarks has a bunch of I think washed up Hooter's waitresses working there, but Mikey Breedlove swears by their BBQ dip and always has it at his place, so it's approved... |

Well, I've had a lot of Q and back in 2002 Short Sugar's was pretty darn good. You are probably right about the folks up north. I'm actually from VA (USN if that counts) and spent some time camping around the reservoir near Danville. IMO, too much "action" going on there. Best food in the world is good Q. |

It's not new, but worth mentioning. Fox Brothers BBQ, Atlanta Georgia This is the best stuff I've found in Georgia by a huge margin. |

LOTS of great 'cue around here in E. TN... my old workplace, SMHD, has some pretty good stuff at Stinkers, which is incorporated into the Shed. Passing through town, on your way to the Dragon, check out Fullservice BBQ. Been a fave for years, used them a couple of years ago for a smoked Christmas ham. Pretty soon they'll be opening a Dead End BBQ joint within walking distance from my front door... also, there's a great outfit in town called Bread Of Heaven, they do great work with food and do God's work with the proceeds on Saturdays. If this thread keeps up, I'm gonna have to drag out my smoker for the weekend. Been threatening to smoke a rabbit I've had in the freezer for a while now... been jonesing for some pork shoulder anyway. |

Speaking as a northerner, I have to say that I really haven't seen good BBQ up here. Typical is simply to smother meat in a sweet sticky sauce. While tasty, it's not the real art of BBQ. I've run across exceptional BBQ in TN, NC and SC. That's not meant to be an exclusive list, just where I've managed to find it. Since I got a smoker last year, I've been trying to replicate some of that amazing food. I've got some things worked out quite well at this point. Some things are just elusive. It's fun to keep trying though, and my friends certainly keep encouraging me to keep it up. I think it's some of the most underrated cuisine known to man. In the northern states though, I find it to be a DIY project. |

Speaking as a northerner, I have to say that I really haven't seen good BBQ up here. If you find yourself in Milwaukee and don't mind ordering through inch and a half bulletproof 'glass', you'll have to check out Speed Queen Bar-B-Q! Edit: BTW, this is more of a 'Kansas City style' BBQ... Best BBQ North of the Mason-Dixon line... 1313 (Message edited by 1313 on April 17, 2013) |

I like Rudy's BBQ. You can get gas for your car and yourself in one place. The moist brisket doesn't even need to be chewed. And they have good bar-bq sause. "Because taste is more important than spelling". |
