Need to get a small generator to run some lights and charge tools, want around 2000 watts so I can also run a water pump to get the toilet working and be able to wash up and the end of the day before leaving. Not sure how long until I'll be able to get wired power set up and too many thieves to leave it on site so I need something small enough for me to load into my car. I am looking at the Ryobi 2200 watt (peak) inverter from Home Depot because it isn't too horribly expensive, don't really want to step up to the price of a Honda unless I really need to spend the extra. Anyone have opinions on the Ryobi? |

My father's friend bought two of those cheapo 2-stroke generators from harbor freight and was shocked to find how good they were. He had some coupon so they were $79 or some absurd thing. |

I know this is going to sound like an odd place to look for a portable generator, but I saw Aldi's (yes the discount grocery store) selling them really cheap. I don't want one for myself but I thought it was a steal at the price they was asking and I work at the Home Depot so I see all kinds of generators there |

The big reason for the Ryobi is I can just go to the store and buy it, also because it only weighs about 54 pounds since it is an inverter style. It needs to travel with my or it will be stolen, so lifting it into and out of my little Chevy Spark I'd something I need to consider or I would buy a much larger unit from Harbor Freight. I was looking at the inverter style that New egg sells through their marketplace, the wireless start is kind of cool but I'm afraid of having to return ship the stupid thing. I'll have to look at Aldis and see what they might have, they do sell things at ridiculous prices sometimes. The pump has about a 10 amp start and around 6 to 8 amp run, so 2200 watts Max should work if I kick the idle up off of auto to full. It only needs to be run until I have enough rebuilt to where I can get the power hooked back up, and I'm hoping most of that will be done by a contractor. |

greg its not ten amps induction motor loads are rla x 5 for the start up on and the duration is based on how long it takes to get up to rpm and the centrifugal switch drops out the start cap You need a larger generator to start your pump If you want a smaller generator use 12 volt pump tied to a battery and charge the battery off the 12 v tap on the generator or with a charger run from the 110 side |

After as many years as it has sat, I probably need a new pump too, maybe I'll buy a cheap slow pump that will work. Need to get going on it and get a contractor working on it. |
