Assault Weapons removed from main Gun Control Bill.

Don't rest easy on this......keep sending emails, calls or letters to your reps...because the anti gunners WILL NOT rest either. There will be more shootings (sadly)and that will just fuel the debate.

True statement that. Lib/Prog/Comm politicians are notoriously racist because they only push their agenda when white kids get killed ala Newtown or Aurora. Black kids are being slaughtered by the hundreds every year in Chicago and these pols don't give a damn. This is all about political power.

The NRA cares about ALL Americans. The same can not be said about the likes of Feinstein, Biden, or even the Lord and Messiah himself.

It was struck from the bill as a an edict - it is my understanding that it can still be added as an 'amendment' in the next committee.
And as we have seen - State Rights vs Fed...
Your own jurisdiction may decide a different set of rules - hello NY and Co

They will add it as an Amendment so they can have the republicans on record as voting against it. Then they will make it a huge campaigning issue in 2014 with the hope of gaining control of the house and a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

Make no mistake about it. That is what they really want. Then they would have two years with a lame duck Pres to push whatever they want through.

Voting on it will also affect Dems in red states and force them to risk re-election if they vote on party lines.

meanwhile in NY, which still has budget gaps, they are going to pay snitches $500 per tip to tell Herr Coumo where the new unSAFEACT guns are. This WILL get ugly....

Paying for tips,

New law that no one in law enforcement knows exactly what is, or is not legal anymore,

Anonymous tips taken, for cash,

What could possibly go wrong with this program?? (text of letter sent to LEAs across the state below);

"At a time when all of us are finding ourselves doing more with less, a reminder about a resource available from New York State that can assist you in your efforts to solve cases, prevent crime and better serve and protect your communities.

The state has established a toll-free tip line – 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text – individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). While the state will provide the administrative support and fund the rewards, the investigation and validity of the tip will be up to each local department.

To spread the word about this free resource, New York State is planning a comprehensive campaign, including public service announcements that will air on television and radio stations across Upstate.

The tip line can provide your agencies with another avenue for receiving intelligence about crimes being committed in your jurisdictions. This initiative is designed for communities where no tip lines are in place and is not meant to replace existing gun tip lines.

Here’s how the tip line operates:

The New York State Police staff the tip line 24 hours a day. Upon receiving a call, troopers will solicit as much information as possible regarding a firearm tip, while allowing the individual to remain anonymous. The caller will be informed that this program is not the traditional gun buyback program but rather is focused on identifying individuals who are carrying an illegal firearm.

The State Police will in turn contact the appropriate police agency with the lead to initiate an investigation. Staff from the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will follow up with that agency to determine the validity of the lead. Once the investigation is completed, the police agency would convey to DCJS the outcome of the investigation.

If the information leads to an arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm, the “tipster” will be awarded $500. DCJS staff will handle all of the financial transactions.

State Police staff will explain the program in its entirety upon notifying an agency that a lead has been generated for their jurisdiction. If you have any questions in the interim, please contact DCJS Deputy Commissioner Tony Perez in the Office of Public Safety at 518-485-7610.

As a midwesterner, I have a probably unfair stereotype image of NYC busybodies who can't wait to rat on a law-abiding neighbor. This also brings to mind that Speedway bomber who has called in numerous tips to get SWAT raids on his political enemies. Too easy to call in, give bogus info, and escape prosecution. Was it here that an NYC BW'er reported that some lady on the bus saw the imprint of his legal weapon through his shirt and created much hassle for him?

It appears the Chicago Gun Ban is working flawlessly.

That would barely be news in Chicago if it had happened on a Friday night. It's kind of funny that in Chicago, where it's very difficult to legally own a gun, they blame this sort of thing on the surrounding areas where gun ownership is fairly easy. The claim of course is that all of Chicago's guns come from the nearby suburbs. So why don't the nearby suburbs have even worse gun problems? Somewhere the chain of logic has broken.

That's hilarious. I hope more and more people read these kinds of articles and have an attack of common sense.

"Today, Bloomberg announced that it will now be even more illegaler to commit murder when it is done with a magazine of more than 7 rounds. Previously, such crimes were punishable by life in prison or even the death penalty. Now, criminals who choose to completely ignore the consequences of life imprisonment or death, and who recklessly decide to carry a magazine with more than 7 rounds, will face the daunting risks of hundreds of dollars in fines and potentially weeks in jail".

When contacted by this reporter, an individual who was planning a public shooting spree had this to say: "I was on the fence about murder before, I can handle life in prison or death row. But a possible misdemeanor for carrying a high capacity magazine? That could cost me hunderds of dollars in fines and legal fees, and land me in jail for hours until I contact a lawyer. No way am I messing with that &*&^. From now on, I'm only murdering with 6 rounds in the magazine."

Just as an aside....

Unintended consequences.

When the "wonder 9's" came out ( late 80's ) with fairly large magazines, 13 rounds or more, Like the Glock..

( not a NEW thing, Browning Hi Power's have had that since the 1920's ) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browning_Hi-Power

A lot of people went for the new "9's" ( also called "crunch-n-tickers" for the trigger pull ) It's what the police had, it's what the criminals had, and it led to the NYPD & LAPD setting new records in rounds fired at one person.

Then the so called Assault Weapons Ban. ( Assault weapons have been ranted before... so I'll spare you....this time ) With a 10 round limit, instead of "wonder 9's" folk started buying smaller, more easily concealed guns, and the .45 made a big comeback. The "wonder 9's" with big mags tended to be harder to hide, and the new law ( unconstitutional & based on lies, passed on panic ) led to a big increase in concealed carry. Guys who'd bought a big Glock, and then left it in the safe, were now hauling around "baby" Glocks and snub nosed revolvers.. But they were carrying them. The 1911 .45ACP made a big comeback, with 7,8, and 10 round models/mag capacities.

Then 2 years ago it was the anniversary of the 1911, and it was on the cover of every gun magazine and darn near every gun makers came out with their own clones... Life was good.

But 1911's are huge, heavy, and hard to hide. ( yes, yes, it's smaller than a Desert Eagle, and you skinny guys can kiss my shiny metal..... )

Then the ban expired, and a lot of guys went for big magazine "hi cap" pistols, and, as usual, most are in safes, and nightstands.

We've had a .380 craze, now a tiny 9 craze, and a few decent small .40's & .45's.

Now that they are pushing for limits on ammo, again, I predict that the 1911 will again make a come back ( with it's stock configuration 7 round magazine, and that the small 9's and such will be the big sellers.

AND, more people will carry.

I also bet that more and more will carry without papers. With the obvious example of England in front of us, more folk will decide that getting a registered hand gun is just the trick to having police kick down their door. Yes, the penalties for not having a permit in places like New York are severe, but so are stab wounds.

I also predict a large number of folk ignoring "gun free zones" that don't actually have metal detectors and armed guards to shake you down. Since Almost ALL mass shootings in the last decade have been in "gun free zones" AKA "Free Fire Zones", and committed by lefty loons, ( not all, but most ) it's pretty obvious that Obey can mean Die.

Not That I carry in a "gun Free Zone". Oh, no, not me. I'm a law abiding citizen. Ok, ok, I sometimes accidentally break the speed limit. Twice. But that's not the same.......

There has been some speculation that the rise in snubby revolver sales has to do with the lack of empty shell casings thrown around. Perhaps. I say it's a good anti-littering attitude.

“There is no such thing as a seven-bullet magazine,” Mr. Cuomo said at a news conference. “That doesn’t exist. So you really have no practical option.”

I guess it wouldn't help by pointing that 7 round mags have been around for... well, a very long time.

I am confused though. If a 7 round mag is OK, and it's common to carry with one in the chamber, then a total capacity of 8 should be OK, right? So now that a 10 round mag is OK, but not fully loaded, is 7+1 still OK? Is it wrong to have 8 in the mag, but no round chambered? I wish these idiots at least knew enough to make the law clear. I might as well wish Bill Gates writes me into his will.

The purpose of gun control is control.

Not logic, or defense or anything else. No part of any of these bills will save anyone from harm.

The rationalization is that banning high cap magazines, or military looking anything will stop crazy people from going into a school, mall, church, and opening fire on a crowd to commit kill/thrill/suicide.

In fact no crazy people will be harmed in the making of this farce.

HIPPA laws, confidentiality of student records, and medication altered consciousness will NOT be on any database that will be used to "check" a gun OR ammo purchase.

The ACLU would sue. They'd win.

That is however, Not why these folk don't actually craft a rational law on gun ownership and mental illness.

This admin., these people, Pelosi, Feinstein, Reid, etc. don't care a bit about Columbine, Newtown, Aurora, or any of you. Except if they can use it.

They care about power and the monopoly on the Use of force. They have power, they want more, and they want the monopoly on the use of force to compel obedience.

I wish to Loki I was being paranoid about this.

Comrade - HIPAA laws are mute. You are not going to sue the government for data they own.
you can try - I bet you never get a day in court.
I would bet that the data breach in California (led by 15 IRS agents) will indeed be used to scrub for 'Mental Nervous' diagnosis against lists of veterans, republicans, gun owners, NRA members....
And guess who will be getting a new 'unfit to own a gun' letter in the mail...
because surely the Constitution never intended for the 'insane' to own a gun- remember it is for public safety, for the children, for a better society.

It is about control - they dont/wont/cant take the guns away from CRIMINALS because the fear of the criminal is all they have to drive you to a solution that involves the government; "please protect us from the terrorist, criminal, insane"..... yes my children - drink that FlavorAid.

(still more deadly than Sandy Hook ... still Koolaid/FlavorAid is on the shelves - must not have been the fault of the juice drink...)

Pretty much every guy who went thrill-kill-suicide in the last few years had some form of mental health or medication record, and the currently proposed laws would not have stopped any of them.

Crazy people have rights too, and the ACLU would much rather defend the right of a psycho to privacy than you to freedom.

They ( the crazy people ) would not be in the database that is checked, and added to. Only law abiding citizens would be on the list of homes to invade at 3am with a mental health Swat Team.

In masks, with machine guns.

Since when does militia mean a private individual?
Fast forward a decade and our founding fathers turned the well regulated militias into federal assets such as the national guard and reserve units.

2/3's vote and the 2nd amendment can go away. But I'll study the clauses in the 2nd Amend first

How far back you want to go?

Athens? 1776? 1789?

Every smart American disaster team has roles set up for volunteers to help. It gives them something useful to do, and keeps them out of the way of the pros.

And, often, the pros take over when they get there and relieve the volunteers who got there first and kept people alive.

I know. I've handed more than one car & motorcycle accident casualty over to the EMT's ( I'm First Responder trained ) and a criminal, stopped in the commission, over to the police.

We ARE the militia. All of us that aren't idiots. ( and, alas, a few of them )
