I will post pics later, but last night I was at Barnes and flipping through a issue of Cycle Source magazine. Cycle Source is mainly bobbers and choppers etc, but they had an interview with Erik Buell They interviewed him for their FXR issue, and praise him highly for his work on making it the best handling HD ever Not a great interview, but still, pretty dang cool. Pics to come |

Hmmm. My emoticon eating popcorn bitmap won't upload. Odd, since I got it from badweb originally. So imagine an emoticon eating popcorn here. |

The FXRT and FXRD were both decent representations of a sport touring bike. The fairing was designed by Craig Vetter if I remember correctly. Most folks thought the fairing was ugly so they didn't sell well but they were a practical machine. |

I agree about every thing good said about FXR. If my 85 FXRS hadn't died in a collision with a Honda car I would be ridding it today. |

FXR was a very handy bike... to chain your Buell to when parked. I think this may be equally relevant. http://www.ifood.tv/recipe/unlikely-sauce |

yep Grumpy, that was just as relevant on a Buell board as a Buell interview. Youre so right about everything. I adore you. |

I just can't resist a bad pun. Looks tasty too. The equality of relevance was in relation to my fatuous comment, re the FXR's similarity to an anchor, but as long as you love me we're all good. edit, & I haven't even been at the rum yet. (Message edited by Mr_grumpy on February 15, 2013) |

Hybrid - Thanks for posting this - - would have not have usually been looking for that kind of magazine; my 1992 FXR was my first bike (bought new) and although it doesn't get the same amount of miles as the Uly or CR, its a keeper. Will definitely keep an eye out for that issue ... and you have know idea how much more I appreciate the FXR knowing Grumpy disapproves . . . Ride Safe |

I know, im a slacker....
check the top of the mag cover and the small interview. again, not a great interview, but still, good to see EB getting love/attention from non-sportbike guys.
Think what you will, even all those gritty chopper dudes and such still know, and respect the guy. |

Nah , It's not what you ride, it's that you ride. I don't like them particularly but I don't disapprove of any bike. (except those that have been butchered in bad taste of course.) My sense of humour sometimes gets ahead of peoples appreciation. |

Knowing that Erik worked on the frame design for the FXR series bikes, every time one came in on trade, I'd be looking at it- never had the $$$ to throw at one though. FWIW, somewhere I heard that the Hell's Angels preferred these bikes because they handled better than anything else on the run... somehow I believe that story! Might see about acquiring one of those one day. (Had to edit, saw an improper apostrophe.) (Message edited by 86129squids on February 20, 2013) |

Jeez, now I'm conflicted - - should I like my FXR less? And I thought the saying was (at least on Quick board): "It's not what you ride, it's that you . . . post! !" Curt - not a great wealth of info in the interview, Erik even seems to be distancing his participation on the project (as I read it), but his response when asked if the engineering and frame handling traits he brought to the FXR were maintained, his response: "I think some was lost, as the replacement Dyna frame did not handle as well. However, the customers seemed to want the more classic looks of that bike, and did not care as much about the handling." Someone else may have a better set-up to post the whole article (or link), but that was the highlight for me. Hybrid - Thanks for posting the original theme, found a copy of the mag here at a Fred Meyer, kind of a left coast version of Food Lion. Ride (or post) Safe |
