I've been convinced for years that the limits of cupro-nickel/copper/brass/mild steel ( all have been used ) jacketed rifle bullets have arrived. In experimental guns, 5000fps has been reached, but that seems to be near the limit of current propellents and, more important bullet design. At one extreme, spinning a lightly built bullet at very high rpms actually can make them vanish in a cloud of dust. In a very fast moving smoke ring, that expands so fast it doesn't seem to have time to slow down before it disappears . Be interesting to do high speed photography on that. Another problem is the rifling can actually strip the jacket on a bullet, tossing chunks of copper alloy and a wobble/tumble core randomly down range. Sabots, OTOH, have matured a great deal and are now probably the most popular systems used in muzzle loaders and rifled shotguns for hunting. I suppose I should toss in that Sabot is french for "shoe" and the plastic part in the pics above is the Sabot. ( pronounced Saa-bow, more or less, I'm not French ) It grips the bullet pretty tightly as it spins down the barrel then falls off of the projectile, with the petals flying open under spin acting as air brakes. The idea is to get a clean and symmetrical release. Most folk on this thread know that, but it's nice to explain for those puzzled by the weird pics above. I think with modern high explosive ( faster gas expansion speed than gunpowder ) propellent and smooth bore barrels a finned projectile in a Sabot is the wave of the future. Then again, I like the Gyrojet. Even knowing's it's flaws, a rocket pistol just tickles the Flash Gordon in me. |

Blake, piston guns are a bit over-rated IMO. It pretty much means easier cleaning at the end of the day, they tend to lose a little accuracy over a gas gun, and the piston systems add a bit of weight as well. They can also limit forend options. Unless you're shooting over 1k rounds at a time, I'd skip it. Whether in military or recreational use, I've never had an issue with a gas AR-15 or M-16. |

"Just ran across the Ruger SR556." Which model was it Blake? The SR556, the Carbine, the E or the VT? I think they're a little on the high end, price-wise. We sell the 556 for about 1800.00 and the E for about 1300.00. They also make Cali Compliant guns with no flash hider, 10 round mags and a pinned stock. Crap imo. I have an E that's NIB and never had a round fired through it. Ruger runs dealer incentives where we get points for each gun we sell. I accumulated enough to get the 556 and a SR40C. |

Hadn't narrowed down which I'd prefer of the various models, prob not the "E" version though. I'll be waiting for the prices to settle back down to a more normal level. Thanks for sharing your expertise RickA. I appreciate it. |

"The Kel Tec Sub 2000 I ordered just arrived. I can't wait to play with that thing." 9 or 40? I've been itching for one of those for a while but can't seem to find any other than whats on gunbroker that people are paying (in some cases) 3x the MSRP. Those little things look pretty rad when you put a quad-rail and an optics system on it (although you'll lose the folding capability unless youre creative with mounting the scope/red dot). Any advice on where to find a reasonably priced example? |

The 24" RFB is a full 1" shorter than an M4 Carbine (stock extended, I never used it in any other position). It is ludicrous. Unfortunately, no match trigger available, unless you can machine parts yourself No report on accuracy for the 24" yet, didn't get my reloading consumables before the crazy hit. |

So I hope you have ammo for that thing! Every local store is stripped of ammo. I have a neighbor that wants a semi auto. I told him the day the delivery truck shows up at the local big box store sporting goods store. The sales man told me that the delivery arrives in the morning and in two hours the 6-7 AR platforms are sold. I was thinking if he bought a new gun it would be pretty much unfireable without ammo or magazines! Nothing but an expensive shovel! |

The Sub 2000 is a 9mm with Glock 17 Mags. There is a company called Red Lion Precision that makes a forend with Picatanny rails that actually rotates so you can put optics on it and still fold the rifle. It's pretty slick. |

"my current black guns (not pictured is my LCP, also black. and the other mags.)" Is the gun on the top of the case a S&W MP15TS? |

All mine are beat up old and rusty. "Black" costs too much. Closest thing I have to "Black" is my new S&W bodyguard that I posted above. (Pages ago!) I always wanted a folding carbine but never saw one in the store. |

Not the Pro, this is the Ultra. Weather has been crap, and there are no indoor ranges in this place. Haven't even been able to shoot it yet. Grr. |

You'll like it. I have the Custom Pro CDP II and won't get rid of it (unless the right deal comes up and I am on the winning end of that trade, lol). |

I believe so, why, what's up? I couldn't tell the size in the pic with the reference, I thought it was the Ultra but wasn't 100% sure. |

"I believe so, why, what's up?" I'm looking at buying the stainless Pro Raptor II and wanted a 4" instead of a 3. If memory serves, the 4" will accept the .22 conversion kit. I'm not sure of the 3" |

Correct, 3" will not accept the .22 conversion. |
