What if 9 gang members try to break into my home when I am there alone? Until someone invents instant-death bullets you can never have too many in your gun.

31..correct.Joe Biden,in the video posted cites 150.

Why aren't there mass shootings with muzzleloader type guns?

I have got to get me some OO buckshot for home defense.

Why aren't there mass shootings with muzzleloader type guns?

Probably because they suck as much as an offensive weapon as they do as a defensive weapon.

The AR-15 with it's 30 round magazine OTOH, has been deemed suitable for personal defense by our Department of Homeland Security. Go figure! If you choose to follow VP Dipshit's advice on using bird shot for defense, well that's your choice to make. Please leave me to choose what works best for me. After several shoulder injuries, my shoulder is not suitable to absorb heavy recoil any more. Shooting an AR-15 is no problem at all though.

I think we can assume that Joe knows very little about anything and any numbers he has he was fed.

150 rounds? Bull. In the Gifford crazy guy case the extended mag actually helped the bystander wrestle the gun away. If he had a regular magazine, he would have shot the fellow. Yes, that is one of the very few cases where actual high capacity mags were used. Thank goodness. That magazine saved lives.

Now there are reports... Local Sheriff dept has a good rep on only shooting when they really have to, and using very few rounds. NYC police have a history of panic shooting up to 41 rounds at a single guy. ( 4 police IIRC )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amadou_Diallo_shootin g

or an even more irresponsible case

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/was-nypd-responsible -10-11-people-shot-yesterday

A couple of comments here. The NYPD has a pretty good reputation for a big city department. They work hard in a difficult job, and I'm sure that most officers are at a shooting skill level equal to a mid/low level IPSC competition shooter. ( which is pretty good. ) After all, in the Diallo shooting, 19 of 41 rounds hit the target. I'm certain that mostly they have decent judgment on when to shoot. It only takes a few bozos to give you a bad rep.

And NYPD cops are stuck with heavy, difficult trigger pulls by edict. This is a deliberate stupid attempt at safety by people who are not willing to pay for training time and went for the dumbest common denominator. If you shoot the same guns as the NYPD you can order the same, or even a harder trigger. ( Glock New York Trigger ) Hard trigger pulls reduce accidental discharges, a tiny bit. Training does a better job, IMHO, but I'm not in charge. Harder pulls make accurate aiming harder.

A different local PD has a bad rep for chasing people in cars to death. I'm not actually blaming the police in most cases, since the cretins running into trees and going out of control pretty obviously chose to exceed their rather low skill levels.

Why would an enthusiast want a 300 round clip?

SO I don't have to reload as often? For fun? Because I want one? In case of alien invasion?

Because I've NEVER SEEN ONE THAT BIG!!!!???? It's IMAGINARY? AND MAGIC?

Yes, I've seen 100 rd magazines. 60, 50, 32..... Mostly you are talking specialty jam-o-matics that ruin the handling of the weapon and don't work reliably. Yes there are a very few, expensive quality high capacity magazines used only for fun and competition. ( and very very rarely, by special ops troops ) In every case of civilian shooting with a real actual high capacity magazine it has jammed.

The 20 & 30 round magazines that are used with rifles for the last half century are normal capacity. Hasn't been a problem since your father was a child, isn't a problem now, except that people lie to you about them.

How about a compromise?

My proposal.
First, Federal law requires a permit for concealed carry, with a rational background check.

Sound suppressors, Machine guns, Short barrel rifles and shotguns, all keep their status as permit only federal items, and have been since 1934. We add Higher than largest stock plus X percent ( many hand guns are sold with multiple magazine sizes. Short for concealment, longer for better grip ) magazines to that list of restricted items. As with a machine gun, FBI check, paid by a reasonable fee by the applicant, required.

This over rides and cancels all state restrictions less restrictive, or more.

I bet you a months pay that a year after this law passes, Chicago's murder rate drops significantly in under a year.

As to "military looking" and "cosmetic feature" rules? Irrational and silly.

But not silly because the goal is to take away ALL guns from ALL citizens. NY has already passed the confiscation law. One proposal did have armed men breaking down your door and stealing your stuff. Killing you if need be.

That's the desired future, no matter what the anti-constitutional folk tell you.

Get it straight, they lie. They have to. They believe.

Ducxl, check out this web site. See the real results of shooting buck shot through walls. Then pick up the ammo you want to try, THEN test the patterning, so you KNOW where the shot is going to go, THEN decide which is best for you. ( brand and size. Also choke. )

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot3.htm

Check out the rest of the site too. Funs stuff, the "Buick of Truth" is informative, and the mil surplus stuff interesting.

Remember, man has always used what the military uses as civilians. For hundreds of years. It just makes sense. We have laws restricting machine guns and cannons, but NOT banning them. That has worked well since 1934. I give some credit to improved police work and the FBI.

Ah Duc, seems you get the point as to why your opinion of how many I or anyone else needs of anything else doesn't matter. You don't machine my parts, nor do I ever need you to. You aren't necessary in the equation. That's the point. I think I will pass a bill that bans only Duc from machining anything, makes as much sense. Then, I don't need to deprive all the other law abiding machinist of as much machine oil as they need. Get it? Good.

You can forget your double aught buckshot, too many pellets. Maybe you can use half a shell and then reload... if you are really serious about self defense, I can't see why you would need one whole shell! Oh, and you can only use a single shot gun, no 3 shell tubular mag for you.

Why are muzzleloaders not used for mass killings in the 20th century? Well, they could be, just find a line of people, or school kids, and with one round you can get several. More likely it has nothing to do with the inconvenience and more to do with the lopp-head not knowing what to do with it period. Muzzleloaders are very versatile and can be loaded with glass bead and sprayed upon an unsuspecting group. I guess the rate at which muzzleloaders are used in homicides is about the same rate as that for any other kind of rifle, less than 1% of all gun related homicides.

Oh, I see your point now. You just want to make it impossible for anyone, not just the crazed homicidal maniac to effectively fire at a target. Whether in a fit of rage or self-defense, or target practice, or public demonstration, or just because it makes a guy giggle to rip through thirty rounds as fast as the finger can pull the trigger. People don't really need to do that and by stopping everyone from being able to do that then maybe, just maybe we can prevent one child from being killed by Shiznit the Autistic One... at least by a gun, I'm sure he can learn how to set fire to a locked classroom, after all he is fascinated with fire and plays with matches all the time. Or maybe he'll just buy some good machine oil and spike all their koolaid packs. Say you wouldn't happen to know of some really toxic machine oil formula's would you?

Oh, I forgot something. Feinstein has passed an amendment to her bill that says that shotgun shells cannot be purchased preloaded anymore, seems that one kid could be saved if only we forced the assailant to first place pellets from a separate container into the open shell case and then crimp the end over. That should effectively interfere with his schedule and keep him from making his appointment at the coffee shop later.

Exactly!

Considering the list of guns in the proposed legislation includes shotguns, it's not a reach at all. You do yourself a disservice by using dishonesty in the discussion. You have no credibility at this point at all. Quoting VP Dipshit reduces your credibility further.

Sound suppressors, Machine guns, Short barrel rifles and shotguns, all keep their status as permit only federal items, and have been since 1934.

The sound suppressor thing really pisses me off. I can legally and safely target shoot at my place in MI. There are some neighbors in earshot though. I would be more than happy to put some money into quieting things down for my neighbors. They make the cost of a suppressor prohibitive though. The cost of adding one to each gun I own is ridiculous. Fortunately, my closest neighbors consist of hunters, shooters, and a gun dealer, so they are likely quite sympathetic to the situation, but any reasonable person would understand that not having to hear the constant bang, bang, bang of a target session would be a good thing for all. I know I don't especially like it when the dealer is shooting at his place either. This is a case of the government stepping in and keeping people from being the best neighbors that they can. STUPIDITY!

Silencers do not make a gun silent. There is a dB drop, but they still make noise. Hollywood would have you believe they only make a faint 'foop', but that is not the case. When was the last time you heard of someone being murdered with a silenced weapon? I never have. Seen it plenty of times on TV though. I think you're worried about TV fantasy.

Dang coffee out the nose again. Did I just hear "I know you are but what am I" Pee Wee?

Your Mossberg 500 is in the list(p.72), but as an exception, a grandfathered in gun. Now why would it need that?

But here is the catch all on page 4:

‘‘(F) A semiautomatic shotgun that has any 1
6
of the following:
7
‘‘(i) A folding, telescoping, or detachable
8
stock.
9
‘‘(ii) A pistol grip.
10
‘‘(iii) A fixed magazine with the capacity to
11
accept more than 5 rounds.
12
‘‘(iv) The ability to accept a detachable
13
magazine.
14
‘‘(v) A forward grip.
15
‘‘(vi) A grenade launcher or rocket launch-
16
er.
17
‘‘(G) Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder.

And from the Wikipedia page on your model:

The basic Model 500 comes with a magazine tube capable of holding five 2.75-inch (70 mm) shells, which is called a six shot model (a full magazine plus a round in the chamber).

Not being a lawyer, if I owned your Mossberg I would be hiring a lawyer to find out if I sold it and then wanted to get another one would that be possible.

This is a catch-all piece of legislation that is being proposed which says essentially that all these guns we are calling "assault weapons" are no longer to be owned by any American citizen unless we grant a specific exception. Of course the exceptions and grandfathered in guns are just in there to get buy-in from other legislators that might be sitting on the fence. That list of exceptions is also 96 pages of the total 122 pages currently being proposed. I think that works out to be 77% of the entire document. Hmmm...}

Hey Ducxl, why do you think I would like to have suppressors on my guns? You don't accept what I say at face value, let's hear your wisdom. Yes, my neighbors. I can't see them, but they can hear gun shots. My lot is big enough that it is possible to hike far enough that you can't hear a .357 magnum being fired. It's a whole lot easier shooting behind the barn though. From there, I know at least six neighbors can hear it. A suppressor would likely make it so only one of those neighbors would have the slightest idea I was target shooting, assuming they were outside at the time. I would see that as being a good neighbor. You, for some insane reason, seem to feel that I shouldn't be allowed to do so without spending a huge amount in special taxes and in depth background checks. I also have a muffler on all my bikes. Go figure. Given the choice between a prohibitive tax and open exhaust though, and you will hear me coming.

Actually, with a good suppressor most of the sound will be from the shock wave of the bullet. Ever hear a supersonic pellet gun? It's surprisingly loud. Load a heavier pellet that won't go supersonic and it's close to silent. Truth is though, most suppressors don't have enough internal volume to make a gun close to silent. They do become far more neighbor friendly though.

Slavery is in your families future.

I find it curious that no one seems to think that it's not just in the future, but here now. What are people waiting for? I mean, we have the "Patriot Act;" the NDAA; suspension of Habeus Corpus; presidentially-decided assassination, even of American citizens; warrantless wiretapping; suppression of press, of free speech, of gun ownership... you have probably a good 99% of the population in debt slavery(gotta keep being a good worker sheep to make all the payments).

My concern is that everyone just keeps saying "it's coming" until well after it's already here, and too late to do anything about it.

Not that I have answers for just how to act, but it would seem prudent to consider action before we find ourselves in crisis mode.

Ken (Kenm123+), if your application has anything to do with class III restricted items be careful and read the laws pertaining to those things carefully.

A friend who was rebuilding/refurbishing M1's had to get a permit to do that and when the permit was issued it stated the ATF has the right to come into your house ANYTIME WITHOUT A SEARCH WARRANT, to look for any other type of illegal weapons, etc.

One day he was standing in his kitchen having a morning coffee and when he looked up two ATF suits were standing in the kitchen doorway. They stated who they were, with proper credentials and proceeded to look into ever drawer, closet and nook and cranny before they left without finding anything illegal. Would you want that kind of government intrusion into your life? I would not.

Has anybody else experienced this or can you chime in on the trueness of these class III restrictions and related laws?
