>>> There is plenty of indication that anyone relying on the gun for protection instead of God is unwise. Truth! But that is not to say that faith in G_d precludes possessing the means to defend oneself against evil, far from it. |

Wasn't the "AR"-staf complete with matching rod used to provide comfort (security) ? It also works well on kids! |

But that is not to say that faith in G_d precludes possessing the means to defend oneself against evil, far from it. Truer words were never spoken Blake and I will ad: I believe God wants us to defend ourselves, stay alive, and pass on His word to all who will listen and believe. Here I have to disagree with multiple people. First, According to the Priests, God gave Man free will. That's why he/she can do bad things. We are people, not puppets. Second, to misquote Ronald Regan, Trust in God, but Verify. I mean, pack. To quote another, even more famous guy, "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's" Presumably your Immortal soul & devotion to good belongs to your God(s). For protection from secular dangers, look to the secular Authorities. But. Since the Secular Authorities have declared, and settled in the Supreme Court, that the police have no obligation to protect you, You are on your Own. ( the case http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/28scotu s.html?_r=0 So... depend on God for Protection? Sure. In matters of the Spirit. Struggling with demons in your life? Go with your God(s). If it's a matter of physical violence, it's up to you. "for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword" ( that more famous guy again ) Usually phrased, He who lives by the sword shall die by the Sword. Lot of truth to that, and in the Context of Jesus being arrested by Roman Soldiers Simon Peter drawing a sword to protect Jesus was suicidal. OTOH He who lives by the Sword will take the stuff of those who do not. You get into the collision of the Sheep/Sheepdog/Wolf philosophy and Christian Pacifism. I'm not a pacifist, so you can guess where I stand. Third. It's rude to pick on people just because they believe in invisible forces they do not comprehend. You do too. Or do you insist you understand the Bethe Reaction? Really? Explain it to me......please. I could easily parrot many points that purport to demolish the mythology of any religion that believes in (a) God. So what? Show me a picture of an Electron. Hand me a Neutrino. Oddly I believe that Electrons & Neutrinos exist. I cannot smell them. But I can smell the Ozone after the lightning. I don't understand them fully, and doubt you do either. The Following Quotes are from R.A.Heinlein. "Moving parts in rubbing contact require lubrication to avoid excessive wear. Honorifics and formal politeness provide lubrication where people rub together. Often the very young, the untraveled, the naïve, the unsophisticated deplore these formalities as "empty," "meaningless," or "dishonest," and scorn to use them. No matter how "pure" their motives, they thereby throw sand into machinery that does not work too well at best." "It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so, and will follow it by suppressing opposition, subverting all education to seize early the minds of the young, and by killing, locking up, or driving underground all heretics." "One man's theology is another man's belly laugh." |
