"I imagine the US and Australia are worlds apart on this. You live in a nation with naturally protected borders that has, so far, had very little strategic value to the rest of the world. Relative isolation has it's pluses."

One of your best allies. I know you are only joking though.

Danger Dave and Sifo

DD, would you be able to point me to the KLR ride route you did out of Port Waikato? Can't find it and would like to do it.

Regards,
Gary

Dave G.,

My comments to "Dave" were directed towards the danger man.

As to your comments: Weren't handguns, even kept at home, illegal in D.C. until the Supreme Court recently slapped down that ban as unconstitutional? Not sure that was/is the case in NYC. Folks there are able to own handguns. Might that inform on some of the difference in crime between the two cities? Put Guilliani in charge of DC and watch the crime rate plummet just as it did in NYC. Tough policing works.

"you know everything about guns in Australia."

Mostly I've been quoting verifiable statistics concerning the issue. The skyrocketing incidence of rape and other violent crime in Australia following their gun ban versus the decreasing incidence in America following wide-spread implementation of concealed-carry laws seems relevant. You just don't seem to care to hear about it. Go figure, rapists are hesitant to attack if there is a possibility that their intended victim might shoot them.

Tens of thousands of Americans die every year in automobile crashes. A million babies are slaughtered every year by money-grubbing baby-killing mass murderers. But we must become shocked and appalled to the point of giving up the best means of defending ourselves since psychopaths who obtain guns kill some people.

The isle of man has a MUCH higher rate of death. But they are willing participants you say?

So am I. I am a willing participant in supporting our unalienable rights including the right to defend with the best possible means my life and the lives of others against those who would threaten them.

When you look at the issue in the light of cold hard facts, a few hundred or even thousands of murders committed using guns just pales in comparison to other threats to human lives. It's nothing but politics.

The problem here is that the anit-gun folks just aren't willing to look at anything other than restricting guns. That's because they are anit-gun. It's not about any sort of facts, other than those that support an anit-gun stance. It's not about forming a safe, civil society. It's about being anti-gun. When you are anit-gun, any facts that show the good side of gun ownership just aren't relevant. What is relevant is being anti-gun.
