I was going to post this earlier......if you haven't purchased or stocked up by now.....SOL. You are either going to find end of the world pricing or NLA. Many suppliers are sitting on stock it seems and web based retailers are suspending sales (i.e. Cheaper Than Dirt, which should actually be More Expensive Than Gold with their post weekend speech price increases...) The only thing on my "needs" list at this point is a Kel Tec KSG, which hopefully will slide under the radar is this new, hasty White House gun grab, and availability approaches reasonable. |

I'm still waiting on a Kel Tec Sub 2000 I ordered about a month ago. For some reason it is really hard to get those. |

How many small gun makers will have to shut the doors if there is a gun ban coming up. I just mention that because if your buying an AR will the maker still be around to service the gun if need be. |

Mmmmm, she sure shoots nice. Freestanding, no support, less than a 2.5" group at 25 yards with iron sights. |

The PINK AR is the one to get - look how FRIENDLY it is ! my two local stores are out of any AR/AK variant; and stubby shotties are going fast, mostly what is left - 22 inch Barrels and 22 caliber plinkers the Hand guns are going quick - but the revolvers were in good supply |

One guy at the range told me to put a for sale sign on the AR I picked up last night. He said it _might_ take 10 minutes to double my $$ on it. I put a few rounds downrange, 2" - 2.5" group at 25 yards, free standing with iron sights. I took it home with me. |

We haven't seen the run on the AR style .22's yet. We still have that pink M&P too. |

So how often do stores like Cabela's get restocked? And I'd buy that pink M&P if it were available here! |

There's four main ways retailers get guns..... 1) Through PIC (Purchasing and Inventory Control). A lot of times orders are generated when an item becomes out of stock or there's 1 left on the shelf. 2) Through management special orders (Management asks the corporate office to order directly from the factory) 3) Order directly through a wholesaler. We've done so many special orders through our wholesaler that our Corporate office in MN slapped our pepes. 4)Having a sales person find one at another store. For GM, there's a 25.00 shipping fee between stores. #3 is the quickest (firearms are shipped priority next day), but offers the store the smallest amount of margin. If a gun runs out of stock by us and the MFG has them, it takes about 2-3 weeks to go through our system and distribution center. |

Okay, that's good to know. So I can expect a couple of weeks until I should call back and actually expect a re-stock of the ARs, right? That leaves some time to gather funds and do some more research. |

Back to the OP: I just completed my 1st "panic buy" AR assembly starting with a S&W stripped lower, the concept: light and clean It took about a month to get all the parts. at a cost of right at $1,000 and about 3 hrs and about the same # beers utilizing no special purchased tools. I know I should have "just got a Colt 6920" but I wanted certain components and was willing to pay for them. Here is the basic parts I used: S&W lower with PSA enhanced LPK/Magpul MOE furniture, G+R H buffer ALG ACT FCG PSA Pencil 16" Middy. BCM BCG BCM Mod 4 Charge handle Magpul BUIS rear Shot 20rnds 556 federal and 20 Tula just a little while ago and it functioned fine. Has a bit of muzzle jump but only weighs 6 lbs 5 oz. unloaded. I'm well satisfied with it initially, but... the handguard that came with the upper is ugly and too fat for me. I have a tapered one for $20 coming from RRA. I will also go with a BCM brand Comp/FS when or if they get back in stock. No pics because I gave my dig. camera away to my step d. because her's to a shit and did not have $,s for another right now. Now to the next panic build.... ...starting with a Spike's stripped lower. I got a rifle stock and parts with a PSA LPK Magpul MOE grip and buttstock, and ALG QMS trigger on the way. If I can swing it $'s wise (and can find it) I am thinking a Stag 18" rifle gased "3 gunners" light barreled upper. It's OK to dream isn't it? Merry Christmas Y'all! NukeB... "where in the world did you score a bcm bcg??!" By the time you get the email that they are in stock, it is too late. I had to camp out on their site and refresh several times a minute. Don't tell everyone but it seems they are releasing a few during normal working days from about 4:45 to 5:05 PM CST... I am trying not to get too far into "panic mode" because if this gets real, real bad and the worst case in strict regulations gets passed w/o a real "grandfather", we all will get screwed out of our investment |

LWRC stripped lower for $100.00. DPMS lower parts kit for $59.00. Milspec buffer tube, weight and M4 stock for $20.00 from BIL. Have a stripped upper I got for $79.00. Still working on the rest. |

Thumper74, Looks like you got some very good bargains and are on your way! Hope someone gets you some more parts for Christmas! What basic type are you trying to put together, Target/varmint, Std M4, "3 gun", HD ect??? I should have picked up lowers several months ago, but I really didn't care about putting one together until recently. I could get my "foot on the door" on 3 AR's for the cost of 3 lowers or about $380. Merry Christmas! |

would not the .22 plinkers just take a new upper receiver and mag to change the caliber - or am I missing something ? ps, that Goliath 50 cal upper is the bee's knees |

Cityxslicker... If I was to go 22lr AR style I would prefer dedicated like the S+W. Mostly because of the major clean-up going back to centerfire. But on a budget this kit has a pretty good rep. I might just have to have one anyway. http://www.botachtactical.com/cmmg10235.html |

careful buying from botach, got burned last year. check reviews. smoking deals on the tac boots ect but never got the bipod (atlas) i ordered & was charged for. luckily disputed it & all ended well +2 on the dedicated 22 ar complete, or at least an upper pkg from cmmg http://www.cmmginc.com/product_p/22b1c50.htm city, runnin .22lr through a standard ar is known to foul up/clog the gas tube from lead (Message edited by nuke-blue on December 25, 2012) |

I have heard some trash talk about Botach, and I did have a little trouble with one of about 12 of my orders now. They are not top notch CS but so far I can deal with it (them). Had to dog them pretty good on one order, they end up upgrading the item when they did finally send it. Price and free delivery keep me coming back. Like 3 PMAG 30rd mags for $37 order 12/18 got 12/22. Risk and reward! Another 120 rds of mixed ammo thru the new, "panic buy stripper lower" lite franken Ar. Ran great! I hate the fat handguard. Merry Christmas! |

"Mossberg 500 is supposed to be the way to go. Standard issue for Marines ... of course they use a 12 gauge though." I thought the Benelli M-1014 Joint Service Combat Shotgun was the standard issue shotgun. |

NukeB: My Fat handguard is a triangle shape holder on the muzzle end, mid gas type. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/ complete-uppers/psa-16-mid-length-pencil-profile-c l-mp-premium-upper.html The carbine won't fit it, it's round. What I think I got coming from RRA, a slime tapered round one like the slim carbine you have but with the triangle mount. http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction= category.display&category_id=306 Many thanks for the offer! Merry Christmas! |

Jeremy, wait on a 5.56 if you can. The .308's are nice, and Armalite makes a good gun, but the .308 is 2x-3x the price as far as ammo goes. If you really want a AR-10, I wouldn't talk you out of it, quality wise. That said, I just ordered my Sage EBR for my M1-A. I figured now is a good time.
