Well I'm nominating Delta Airlines myself. Nothing tragic, just a day wasted and very annoyed all because of basic stupidity. See, I booked a flight nearly 3 months ago for today that was supposed to leave early in the morning and have me at my destination sometime in the afternoon, not bad for 1300 miles. Well, first came the bump to a flight after lunch. Aggravating but oh well. The plane for this flight arrived many hours early from wherever. At the appointed time all were boarded and seated. With minutes before scheduled departure the crew announces that there are two flat tires and we need to temporarily get off the plane while they do a NASCAR pit stop and have us back and ready to go 1 hour later. After a quick snack I go back to the counter to ask if I will have enough time to make my connecting flight. Nope, they went ahead and decided for all of us they would take 3.5 hours to fix the flats and adjust our connections, if possible to later ones. For me it is still possible to get to my final destination... at midnight! Most of the plane will have to wait until morning to leave this airport, or the connecting airport. Ok, you see this is what is so funny and stupid. This airport is small, and this is one of their slowest days. We did have snow early this morning but it has long since melted and the sun is out. The weather is great! And the plane that has maintenance issues, which something tells me should have been noticed earlier this morning when it first arrived, has been on the ground a leisurely 8 hours already, with no other planes needing it's berth. We are just all having a nice leisurely day hanging out at the terminal with nothing better to do. I'm sure elsewhere in the U.S. there are airport horror stories of snow and ice, etc. But not here! And the kicker? I saved $30.00 bucks by switching to Delta for this leg of the trip! My sister flew out early this morning, on time, the same time I originally booked this Delta flight for, from the same airport, and should be at our parents house in the next hour. I haven't flown Delta in over 20 years and today was the day I give 'em a try again. Ain't that funny? I know I'm bitchin' but really it is a great day and I'm fine. Maybe someone else has some funny(ouch, ha, ha) stories about an airline saga for the past year they can share! |

United Airlines, going on my honeymoon to Ireland. Very well planned, very expensive vacation divided up into equal morsels of awesomeness. Flight was Atlanta to Philly, to Ireland. Flight got delayed 1 hour at a time due to weather for 8 hours, then eventually cancelled. We stood in line for an hour, and were told we could fly Air France directly if we could get across the airport in 7 minutes. We RAN as fast as we could, only to be told that due to an input error from the original desk we would have to pay 7000 dollars each to take the flight. And no, they would not call the other counter. So needless to say we spent the night in the absolute biggest s@#$hole hotel next to a cemetary in ATL. And we were reimbursed nothing due to it being weather related. We missed one whole day of our honeymoon, plus our strategically planned layover in Philly for the July 8th celebration. Was NOT happy about that. But it was in 2011, so I say they at least deserve honorable mention for trying to charge me 14k for a 9 hour delayed flight. All airlines SUCK!!! |

AirTran from WI. to SeaTac and back for first and last leg of an Alaska vacation was great last July. Friendly skys and all. On the last flight the Captains wife and kids sat in the seats behind us. Plenty of attendants that flight. |

I, myself, am continually amazed at how WELL airlines do as a general rule, keeping thousands of machines in the air and relatively on schedule all the time, with all the inherent pitfalls associated with such activities. |

Well, I made it to my destination finally, this morning, very tired. I will never speak that airlines name again. At first there was some irony to the saga to tickle my funny bone. But by last night when we did get to the destination for the first leg(Atlanta) my humor was all used up. They did put us up in a nice hotel which we had exactly 6 hours to sleep and enjoy. I wanted them to give me a rental car to drive the rest of the way but that was against their policy. So, they essentially held me hostage for almost 24 hours. Yes, I'm bitter! :-| Incompetence and neglect are the cause of my debacle, and I'm sure that is the root cause in many other cases. Not weather, not heavy traffic volume, just garden variety FAIL. Oh well. It's done. War stories do help ease the pain. |

I too flew with Delta for the holidays. Never again. Multiple delays, without apology or reason, flights packed like sardines. If you didn't belong to their sky club, it was pretty much impossible to put any items in the overhead storage. Not to mention the credit card adds on the PA system! |
