come on now, how many people do you know that bought a bike with saddlebags and laid it down within the first 6 months because they pulled in somewhere, and forgot the saddlebags were there?
I've been fortunate that I have NOT done that "yet" with my Tenere with it's HUGE Jesse's bags attached to it. but give me time...

Fortunately something I NEVER did. All of my "bagger" bikes had saddlebags narrower than the front mirrors. Even my K1200LT is remarkably narrow in the rear compared to other tourers. Actually, that is one of my concerns about upgrading to a K1600GTL... that bike has definitely got a "Fat A**" compared to what I have now...
I'm not really buying this as a real event. First, it's quite a coincidence to just happen to have someone filming this from a perfect position across the harbor. It could happen though. The sound when the bag hits the post is incredibly loud and has zero delay. You get this when sound is recorded near the source and edited into the film later. Also there is very little ambient sound. Looks pretty professional. The rider does and incredible job of landing on his feet too. Lots of earmarks of a professionally done stunt.
I thought it was a hilarious DOH! Glad he didn't get much more than his ego hurt... haha.. I haven't ridden with my side bags yet. I think they are a pita to open and with my luck I'd get stuck in a traffic jam, and forget that they are on when I finally decide to lane split.
I've hit the bags on the Uly on stuff going slow but this guy was just zipping along being all cool dodging the poles. Hold my beer while I dodge around these poles on the edge of the pier.
My wife nailed my thigh with her hard bags one day when she tried to pull up close at a stoplight to tell me something. She came in too hot and hit me with her new hard bags at about 10 MPH. Had a nice bruise, but thankfully neither one of us went down. She is very conscious of her bags now.
