Anyone have any experience with this? I have one that's a few years old - I was just going to replace it, but I saw they were $200+ and I just can't swing that right now. This is the one I have: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/LG-LHD459EL-4 5-pint-Portable-Dehumidifier-Refurbished/4188247/p roduct.html This thing never worked well from the start. It seems like it would get hot or something and you could hear the compressor try to start up but it wouldn't. You'd hear a click and a buzz while it tried to start it over and over again. But every once in a while it would run and work fine. Recently, however, it just stopped working all together. It turns on and the fan runs and I hear a faint click when it turns on, but it doesn't seem to be trying to do anything and the compressor never turns on anymore. I have no idea where to even start... |

There are a couple of basic dehumidifier maintenance/troubleshooting vids on youtube, but they may not address your specific issues. Worth a quick look, though. |

Sounds like the start relay and/or the start capacitor have a problem. If there is trouble with the start gear, the compressor will hum, but not start. after a few seconds of no start/high amp draw, the external compressor overload will open and make a "click" sound. Eventually, the overload wears out and gives up the ghost. It is extremely doubtful that an appliance repair center can fix it for less than a new one costs. |
