I know some of you have been playing for awhile and have had to at one time or another looked for a seat, stool, or chair to sit you're behind in. I started playing guitar again after a 20 year sabbatical and the couch is not cutting it. I am starting over and learning to play this time with sheet music. I started looking for used drum thrones and was floored for the price they are asking for a wobbly used up throne. Used $60, New $70. Same stand! We bought guitar hero throne a few years ago and the double braced throne is trashed after about 6 weeks of use. I was hoping to find something that my kids could use as well for guitar hero. I started looking at mid range priced new and found some that I like for around $60 to $100. I don't know what is going to last, and I am looking for the older screw type. I thought that I would ask if any of you have something, you really like. Drummers included. I am asking to get a different view and get out of the box that I am in. Padding is necessary. My butt does not like the old oak stool I have that I used to play on 20 years ago. My hams are as sore as my fingers are right now. |

$100 should be about the cheapest you'd spend on a drum throne. I have a cheap one, cost me right around $100, and it lasted 6 years or so at this point, with differing levels of use through that time but seeing very regular use now that I'm gigging and rehearsing regularly. The brand is PDP, but to be honest they're probably all really similar at that price point. You'll end up with an OK stand and a super cheap seat with crap padding, like mine. It's uncomfortable, but I can tolerate for 4 hours with breaks, but it takes some alcohol to do it! Personally, I'd think a drum throne would be too low for guitar. Seems something like a bar stool would be best for that... |

I use a collapsible piano bench. It has pretty decent padding and it is quite adjustable. |

Milt, do you have a picture? Xl1200r, PDP is one I was looking at. 86129squids, I have been looking there also. Grated it has only been a week. Oldog, doing that today as a try out. The wife is not happy right now as I took it from the computer and the back is laying on the floor. The only difference is price. Well, and more padding. |

Click here for manufacturer's website. I like it because I can set it up so the bench is about 17" off the floor. That and a footstool allows me to practice 2 hours at a crack without pain. (For me, at least. My wife suffers a great deal....) A quick Google search indicates that this item isn't available any more, but it's brother (thicker seat) BX-718 is. About $65 at Sam Ash. |

I use a gas-lift office stool kind of like this Gas-lift Stool though the one I have has a slightly bigger top. Having wheels is good because my practice room is a little cramped so it's easy to spin around and reach stuff, bad because you can move around without meaning to. I usually raise it a bit and rest my feet on the "legs". I also practice on a bar stool occasionally so I'm not too used to playing in the one position. |

Search for an ergonomic chair/stool used for assembly work in factories. you kind of lean/sit on them. Personally, drum thrones with padding make my hinie sweat, I like simple 4 legged hard stools with a flat top, like an old school drafting stool. |

Thank you all who helped & give me some thought. You gave me a lot more direction than what I was thinking. I found what I was looking for and it is working way better than what I ever could think of. Let's see I tried the bar stool, an office chair, piano bench, and a drum throne. All had features that I liked and disliked. What I found was mostly a mix of all of the seats in one.
This is what got. A fully adjustable seat with foot rest. It's not hydraulic but it does lock down at one of three location. |

I've had it for around a year with no problems as yet.I have been thinking lately about taking it to my seat guy to make the padding more firm. |
