I'd love a quick, agile 250 machine. Still my favorite all-time is the CBR250RR.

My first legal driving age motorcycle was a Suzuki 250cc X6 Hustler. It was a blast to ride but didn't have the top end speed that young fearless teenager like me wanted back then. Now at my advanced age, it would be fun to own one again. |

My first street only bike was a Yamaha RD250A, two smoke. I know there is a lot of dreaming going on here, but, (mini 1190RS?). Would make a good commuter for me. Let see, 1190 divided by 250 is 4.76. So we divide 387 pounds by 4.76 to get 81.3 pounds with 175 hp divided by 4.76 is 36.76 hp. Throw my fat hiney on it to slow it down. Yep, lotta dreaming. |

I had a suzuki 250 Hustler too. It was a great bike and I have been looking for one like it the last several years. Haven't found one yet though. I did find a 65 yamaha ym-1 (305) and it is a ton of fun. Not too fast but still has that 2 stroke power. For my little bike I have a Kawasaki KLX 250 sf, and I like it a lot. Really not fast, but really agile and can take the dirt too if not too severe. My daughter has been looking at a Ninja 250, and I am sure I could only approve it with a month or two of testing before releasing it. An EBR would better fill the bill I think. |

I hope the quality is more EBR than Hero, because Hero's current crop of bikes are just awful in terms of build and material quality just like 90% of the Indian produced models. KTM have improved things with their Indian built 200 Duke but most of the new Asian (Indian/Chinese/Korean) manufacturers still have a long way to go to match Japanese or European standards. If I was going to buy an Indian built bike I think it would be the new Royal Enfield Cafe Racer model which is rumoured to be available next year |

Until you rode it farther that the local grocery store or hangout; nostalgia goggles do not fix the inadequacies of the original design and manufacturing of the day. It's good that "they don't build'm like that anymore." |

My old friend Nick, of Union Jack Plumbing in Austin, recently picked up a Hustler that he's rebuilding as a replica of the one he had when we were young hooligans. We rode to NE Scotland & back from Cambridge for a holiday at my Aunts seaside cottage once, him on the original one & me on a Suzuki TS250M trailie. Summer 1977, will never forget it, Elvis snuffed it while we were away. |

Matt - isn't there a small cottage industry of private parties in England which take the Indian Enfields and then go through the bikes and "re-certify" that they're at least somewhat better than the rest of the crop? |

Matt - isn't there a small cottage industry of private parties in England which take the Indian Enfields and then go through the bikes and "re-certify" that they're at least somewhat better than the rest of the crop? Yes. All Enfields imported to the UK are handled by Watsonian Squire, the sidecar manufacturer. They are the ones who make up teh 'special edition' Enfields suchs the trials and current cafe racer versions etc. However they have worked closely with Enfield over the years and the basic product has improved hugely since the introduction of the unit engine and efi models. There is also quite a large aftermarket company called Hitchcocks (http://www.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/home) that caters for Enfields old and modern, and sells pretty much everything you could think of for these bikes going right back to the 1940's. The new Cafe Racer model will be entirely built in India but has Ohlins shocks and decent parts on it already, so shouldn't need too much fettling when it arrives |

Pretty cool little market to enter. Kawasaki just upped their 250cc machine to a 300cc, and it looks great: And the Honda 250cc bike has a pretty nice reputation, although I don't like this color scheme:
