Single shot? No pics of it happening, didn't happen. Clown probably crashed his own equipment. If I were endangered by a falling piece of trash while on the range, I would shoot it on the ground. |

Remember, you have the ACTIVISTS quoted as it being shot by a "single shot" when I doubt that anybody on the firing line in a live bird shoot would be there with a loaded rifle. Doubt that they are the most knowledgeable when it came to firearm sound recognition. |

Barker what radio does it use ? Its all about radiated power and how well the reciever built. may not be able to take it over but you can definately cause it problems |

You can jam it if you have the equipment, the power, and the bandwidth; it is much easier and cheaper to pull it out of the sky with birdshot though. Wide range RF snow white will take down damn near anything in the sky, by either blinding it or frying the circuits There should be some surplus Wild Weasel F-4 equipment that is 40 years old that will take that thing out of the sky like swatting a mosquito. |

Most of this is a clear violation of FCC rules. Not saying nothing, just saying. What you need is the net gun from the movie "Fifth Element"... net gun, and so much more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T6ANbL3SMw |

The Heath Kit was legal in 62 and there are more than a few of the 10 meter units on the old CB band still cooking |

The radio system is made by Graupner it is a 2 way system that are digitally bound, but that is not the issue. If the RX fails, or is taken over, jammed, etc the aircraft will simply ignore any receiver. It will then do as it is programmed. More than likely it will fly back to the landing zone. After realizing that there might be interference, then the operator can simply plan a route for autonomous flight. The GPS systems have a heavy shield to protect from interference from the ground. You actually don't need a radio system to fly it. Attacking the radio control system is the wrong way to bring the bird down. I think they already know the most effective way to stop it. |

Get another plane or drone... but instead of ramming it, hang some Double-Tuna-Hooks from it, hook it and reel it in!!! |

You might want to also study the flight controller systems. These are the autonomous flight systems he is using. http://www.mikrokopter.de/ucwiki/en/MK-Board |

Cool the drone is more fragile than I thought. The twin-ing mode for instruction may the way in to his software taking control. They also have limited range and frequency choices the GPS is how they can expand the range. The best part of the copter users forums and instructions are in German so its a little slow going Some of the family still speaks it at home been a while for me. |

As far as I understand it, if the drone is over private property but under 500ft altitude the operator of the drone is technically trespassing & therefore liable for any damage or injury caused by his equipment, I'd imagine also that he has no recourse in law for any damage caused to his equipment while he was committing an offence with it. If he's flying the drone over 500 feet, he needs to be regulated by the FAA, which I presume he isn't. If this is the case, & he's under 500 I'd just knock the thing down & hand him back the bits in a sack. If he's over 500 I'd be making an official complaint to the police & the FAA. Either way the guy hasn't a leg to stand on. |

That's where you run foul of the law, it's his property, so you'd be obliged to return it if asked, better to turn it over to the polis as evidence. |

It landed on my grill. Melted pretty bad before I got the hose on it. This is all so weird, I had a dream a few months ago about capturing a military drone and shoving it into my garage, then thinking it probably had a GPS locater on it. So, I disconnected all the batteries in it and hid it in my neighbors back yard. the last fix the feds had on it was in my garage, so I let them look in the garage, then told them to leave me alone. Dream ended with them leaving. |

It is only courteous to return his property. If he asks nice, of course. Also, as stated above, it's the law. I'd invite him out back for a BBQ, to pick up his stuff. ( I'm at a bird shoot after all, if it's not a varmint, you eat what you shoot. With that ethical statement, you know I'm never going bear hunting again... tasty doesn't cover it. Boar? oh, yeah. ) But, I'm the kind of guy that would invite PETA types out for a BBQ. Not veal, of course. ( it's bland ) I always have veggie burgers in stock for BBQ's. Like I said, you want to eat what food eats, go ahead. You want to stop me from eating meat? Go home. I'm not a big hunter. I'm grateful to those who are, since we have far too many Bambis in the area, and I hit the brakes 2-4 times a week to avoid them. Nailed a few with Dodges in my time. ( The wait for the Deputy to arrive and declare it dead sometimes is a bit long... but they get real upset if it's already hanging from a tree dressed out when they get there... DAMHIK ) (Message edited by aesquire on November 24, 2012) |

Though not from here, New York. Where, until recently, you were required to run if attacked, most areas have utilities ( water for example ) run by Authorities, ( mostly run by the relatives of politicians for millionaire salaries while the actual service is crap. See Long Island Power... or lack thereof ) The Governor wants to be King, I mean President, so bad he can taste it, and the Mayor of the biggest city couldn't get the D's to let him have the job, so he bribed the R's, and now spends more time telling people what they can't eat than doing anything useful. ( I'm pretty sure there's a name for that particular psychosis... ) Oh, and if you are not in the political class, you can't get into it. There's a reason it's called the Imperial State. But I think the "gotta give back the kite/plane/ball" rule is pretty universal. Just because anti-fun for everyone else types don't like hunting, and will disrupt a hunt to stop it, does not allow you to shoot them. I see no problem with shooting their spy/harrasment drone, though. I can see you having to give it back, since property is property. There is two sides to that. I think you have a case for prosecution if someone sends a camera drone over your property. I know the busybody government folk made it legal for THEM to spy on YOU, and I note that there are many cases where people have been harassed for filming cops at work, so it's obvious that the evil jerks in Gov really want a monopoly on not just forces, but surveillance. I could be that the legal and proper thing to do with a shot down drone is to give it to the police for evidence against the drone owner, and that would be the stand I'd try and get my lawyer to push. "roadkill" rules are a different thing altogether. I've lived in S. Dakota and Nebraska. The first is an "open range" state, the latter closed range. What that means is if you hit a cow on the highway in Nebraska, no one knows whose it is. Complete mystery. The farmer is liable for your damages. You get to eat the cow. In S. Dakota, a dried up half dead specter of a cow, hit on the road, becomes a prize heifer worth more than you'd believe.... I think in New York they sue you for thinking about eating the cow. |

Aesquire When you hit a deer in NY about the 1st question State Police ask is "Do you want it?". If the operator had more wits than a carrot, no guarantee there folks, fairly easy to minimize the possibility of getting it shot down. - Stay above shotgun range. Keep it moving in an antsy fashion to make a rifle shot difficult (not impossible, difficult). Suspect operator error or operator arrogance in this one. |

Let me re -phrase that a tad. First off, they are gonna have to ask about it. Explain why it was over my property and what was it doing. Next they will have to ask if they can look for it. Which I ,as the property owner do not have to grant permission for. Now being as since the property is posted "no trespassing". I think I get to ask, "why they did not ask for permission?" Then ask if they have any insurance to cover any personal or property damage it may have caused. and so on and so on... while also being taped. I mean one can make it real hard and frustrating. I wonder if there is any local laws about launching and retrieving a remote flight device from a public right of way? I mean what if it were to crash and cause an accident on the roadway. Someone or ones get hurt or worse. |

How about a low tech solution: Mini Barrage Balloons... |

The mini barrage balloons tied to trees with nylon fishing line would be very effective with one very bad problem: It would be even more effective against any birds. THEN the anti bird killing team would be able to file animal cruelty charges. Perhaps even anti-trapping charges. I personally like the idea of taking them on with remote controlled airplanes better. Probably more fun than shooting verminous birds anyways! All a plane has to do is tow a streamer of rayon or something strong and drag it through the rotors. |

Loki, I didn't say you had to be nice about the A--hole flying a drone over your property, I just say that the law will, eventually, tell you to return his property. Pity you ran it over with the riding mower, eh? ( fell in the BBQ... ) I didn't say you had to run right out and politely hand it over after you shoot it down, either. He has to ask. Nicely. After all, how they heck do YOU know who to return it to? Recording the whole thing is a good idea. Don't forget, you are the aggrieved party to a privacy violation. |
