Looks like a classic panic hard brake with no skid that made the bike go upright and tangential rather than turn. bbstacker did that in front of me years ago in Ocotillo Wells. Drove straight through and off the side of the oncoming lane in a curve. Heck, I started to do that on Lockwood Valley Road on the way up to Laguna Seca this summer.  I had to change my diapers. |

The cruiser rider who failed to negotiate the corner is SOLEY responsible for what happend to him, the vette rider and the super retard rider.
While the camera guy may be distracting, by no means did he force the rider to abandon his observation of the road and focus on his attention on him.
The super retard guy might have a case against the cruiser guy though...

As for my opinion on what caused the crash;
In-attention by looking at the camera, panic when hard parts touch, failure to "look through" the turn + target fixation on the front fender of the Vette, lack of proper use of the front brake. |

I thought the same thing... Then I noticed that you can see his brake light comes on AFTER the bike is bolt upright. |

Huh? So after he was dragged into the ambulance with a broken pelvis (or who knows what), he should have made them stop, shut down the road, pulled out the oil absorbing solvents he carries in his side bag, and made sure the road was clear before he dragged himself back into the ambulance?
In my case of "assault by Corolla", I did not, and could not, have made any effort to clean the Ulysses debris off the road. Even if I could walk any kind of distance (I couldn't) I would not have been able to do it safely with traffic on the road. They had re-opened it before they let me out of the ambulance.
If somebody deliberately creates a dangerous situation by pouring diesel in a blind curve, they would be liable for deliberately creating a dangerous situation.
Fluids on the road from a wreck are one of many hazards motorcyclists should be prepared to avoid, and are why, even though you may be a great rider, you don't out-ride your sight lines. And why you pucker every orifice and increase your margin by 30% when you smell diesel fuel or see an unexplained spot on the road. |

It sounds like the guy on the SM was a local guy, named Jeff, and is in pretty bad shape. Other discussions said that if other riders hadn't seen him run off into the woods he probably would have died.
