Anybody know of a good route to take from Waukesha, WI to Nashville, TN? I would like to avoid Chicago if possible and was planning on camping in Brown County Indiana on the way down. Any suggestions? -J5 |

In the past I have taken 43 down to Rockford and then followed I-39 South to Bloomington. From there take 75 to Indy. 65 south from Indy will take you through Brown Cnty, Louisville and Nashville. |

Whatcha going to Nashvegas for? I grew up in the suburbs, moved away in '90, but still know my way around pretty OK... For stuff to do and good eats, spend a little time at the Nashville Scene website: http://www.nashvillescene.com/ Since I've been gone, the city has blown up with great things to do/see, and now has a HUGE restaurant scene going on. The Natchez Trace parkway is a good ride, but DO THE SPEED LIMIT... Give Barker or Tom B. (Bumpus) a PM. |

From Waukesha...I-43 South to WI120 toLake Geneva At the WI/IL state line you'll pick up IL47 (WI120 becomes IL47). It's a two lane highway running north/south Il47 to I-74E and into Indy (Message edited by two_seasons on September 26, 2012) |

Thanks for the info guys! I'm heading there for some work meetings. Probably won't have much free time, but I figured if I have to go there anyway, I might as well make a ride out of it! -J5 |

I remember the first time the Mrs and I drove down to Bristol for the races. Ms. Garmin told us to get off the freeway in Gary, IN. Never again. Especially at night. |

I remember the first time the Mrs and I drove down to Bristol for the races. Ms. Garmin told us to get off the freeway in Gary, IN. I've (mostly) learned to be smarter than my Garmin. It likes to get off freeways to go through horrible traffic in towns and get back on the freeway at the next interchange. There's lots of interesting roads to explore south of Indianapolis. Setting a route on a GPS is how I like to do that sort of thing. I would probably just take the expressway down to the Indianapolis area. Try to time Chicago for off peak traffic if you can. Avoiding expressways will only get you into traffic snarls on local streets. Or you could stay farther west on 47 like Two_seasons suggested. It's a nice route, but it's flat and pretty straight. |
