Wow, I guess ICE has locked up the border so tight they are bored. With the War on Terror winding down Homeland Security is ramping up the War on Prostitution.

Can someone tell me where the Federal connection is in what is a local enforcement action? Is this really what we want/need ICE doing.......local, intrastate prostitution investigations? Nothing more appropriate that may actually be threatening our nation that is outside our local law enforcement agencies' purview?
I for one do not view an over abundance of federal special agents running around doing local enforcement work as appropriate......certainly not necessary.....and quite possibly an abuse of resources and power. YMMV

Looks like all the people were arrested by the sheriffs not ICE. ICE was probably there to round up any illegals who fell into the net, and to find out if any higher criminal organization was involved.

Anyone but me remember those nice folks at ACORN willingly helping a Pimp and his prostitute gf to set up a House stocked with teen age slaves from Central America?
A war we can win? It's Biblical! The Flood didn't work. Nuking Soddom didn't work. I really hope that is sarcasm, and I'm too caffeine starved to get it. ( if so, funny! )

Seriously a war we can win? How about a war that shouldn't be fought. Aside from the few that are truly forced and of course underage let it be. There are sooooo many better things that could be done with the time and energy required to complete a sting like that. In reality what is the end result of that sting? will they even collect enough in fines etc to offset the expense? I can tell you right now that a sting like that won't do a single thing to change anyone's mentality.

The war on "stuff" employees hundreds of thousands! It is vital to our economy. Its economic sustainability. How many jerbs would cap and trade saved or created?

I'm beginning to understand the frustration some of you vent on here.
Busting Prostitutes is a temporary thing. The Pimps, slavers that THEY are get even less time and hassle. But busting the customers! now that gets media attention!
Budget time! Time for a Visible Action!
We're Doing Something!
Plus the utter futility of the whole thing...
I'ts just that Sex Sells. The more uptight the culture, the better sin sells.
We're not as bad as, say, Arabia, but France has us beat all hollow on rationality & sex. ( foods not bad either )

Yes, it is sarcasm on my part. As noted, this wasn't a sting on prostitutes but on "johns". What in the hell would customers know about sex slaves or criminal organizations? I just found it surprising ICE and Homeland Security were involved. I would have thought the FBI would be more appropriate to investigate organized crime or human trafficking but what do I know
ICE was probably there to round up any illegals who fell into the net
If that's the case they (ICE) are lazier than I thought. I live in Maryland. If ICE wants to roundup some illegals they need look no further than the corner 7-11 or Home Depot where they stand by the tens and hundreds in the morning looking for day work.
As with drugs, I don't understand any type of regulation. As long as people do what they do without violating the rights of others, who is the government to say what they can and can't do with their bodies?

Darth Villar, I'm with you on this, but when human traffickers are involved, a lot of these prostitutes don't have a choice, they either work or get hacked to pieces. These are modern day slaves or at the very least indentured servants.

Sex, I'm all in favor of. Consenting adults, I'm good. ( children? No need to prosecute, he fell out of the car. ( deleted for legal reasons ) Tragic accident. )
Pimps = Slavers.
Amazing they had a show on HBO glorifying these utter scum. ( still rated higher on the trust meter than politicians. )
Take a runaway girl, pick her up with promises of food and shelter, ( ones escaping an abusive father are best ) rape them, addict them to drugs, beat them, torture them, then send them out to earn you money. Or you kill them slow, with mutilation. Often a little mutilation helps keep their mind on the job. The job of making you money, biach.
The Plantation Owner of Pre-Civil War America was a paragon of virtue in comparison.
I worked once on midnight shift at a gas station in the heart of downtown. Half my customers were pimps. I was really annoyed at local regulations.
Really the only reason you can't shoot them out of hand is the DEC requires a permit for varmints, and, more importantly, they tend to live in no firearm discharge zones. ( which means, locally, that the microphone/sensor system will pinpoint your location, then police will come after the shooting stops. I considered Bow, but I thought even local police would notice a MO like that. )
Alas, you seldom see them free range, in the suburbs. Doesn't mean they are not there, we've had a couple of busts lately for slavers. Father & son. How nice, a family business.

I don't care how you try to size it, Fed involvement in strictly local enforcement work is unnecessary and not appropriate. Now, if there was some international connection ICE response would be warranted, Interstate, FBI. But in this story it appears the three counties had their end(s) covered and MD State Police had their jurisdiction covered. In other words, if our Fed resources have nothing better to do with their/our time..........are they really necessary in their current configuration and numbers?
I don't like the idea of legalizing this activity, but it sure is funny that this same activity that is fine if freely given is verboten when someone decides to receive compensation..........

If prostitution were legal, there wouldn't be any pimps, or sex trafficers. And it could easily be taxed, just like alcohol is taxed now that it is legal. Legalizing and taxing weed might just solve our budget woes.

Adak? I thought they turned it over to the Aleuts. Stay away from the nuke bunkers residual radiation zone. There was a beautiful girl behind every palm tree every time I was there.

Ulyranger, where does it say that the feds were prosecuting people for prostitution?
I can guarantee that all their "prostitutes" were illegals lured over here with the promise of jobs, and boy did they find a job! It just so happens that the majority of prostitution nowadays is not some innocent Iowan farm girl who loses her way in the big city. It is big business run by sociopathic south-of-the-border "warlords" who prey on naive people who come to this country looking for a better way.
Since one of ICE's job is the enforcement of immigration laws (and ICE also has all the authority of the FBI incidentally) this is not out of line - from a legal standpoint.
I'm Pro-sex. I'm anti Pimp. Anti slavery. It's a religious thing, I admit. Something to do with ethics... I'm anti illegal Immigrant, pro legal immigration, and very much against the international sex slave business.
If this was a case of dealing with the sex slavery business, then Immigration Control police have a very valid part it it.
It's probably also a way the agencies go for publicity to get funding. That, alas, is nearly as old as the Profession we are not going to win any war against.
